A Re Booted Life

So wait. No way. 2212? Time travel? BC? A probability wave thingy? Time travel isn't suposed to work. Sarah shut her eyes amd tryed to sort it out. She is full of questions and dout. Maybe its her terrible diet making her crazy. But she also belived it. It came together. The weird hasy air the foce push. She doesn't ever recall hands behind her just a push. But then her eyes snaped open. She turned to Wynn. "What do you mean by humans made you? You look pretty human to me. And its iligal to sell people! What kinda crappie place do you come from?" Sarah tryed to calm herself. She took the empty popcorn bowls to the sink. Thankful to have somthing to busy her hands.

Wynn watched Sarah comprehend what he just told her. He knew it was a lot to ask that she believe him.

Wynn said, "Sarah, where I am from is the future. You can time-travel two hundred years from now. Humans do it all the time. I look human, yes; that's how we are made, but we all don't look the same. Humans order us and we are customized to their needs. We can look male or female, young or old, whatever they want. We work for them, make their lives easier, and do whatever they tell us to. I was ordered by my human family to be a domestic servant/nanny, which duties include cooking, cleaning, yard work, home repair, homework, also walking and feeding C2, their dog."

"The humans wanted to give us more personal characteristics so that we became companions for the elderly, the lonely, and also as travel companions. We filled a need  for humans' emotional, social, and security needs. That's why I look and think like a human."

Sarah dug into the cabnet for the bottle of painkillers. Her mind was not used to having to think so hard. She turned around and ask "so ok if your not human your.... your some robot or somthing. " Sarah threw back her head and swolled the pills. Chasing them with coffee. She leaned on the counter. Trying to simplify the story in her head. Time traveling robot. In my living room, interesting. She thought.

Sarah paced her living room, nothing seemed the same anymore. She said "So you came from the future but it was a mistake ? And you're not human, you're what, a robot ?" Also, people travel through time tunnels all the time ? What are you talking about ! "

Wynn got up from the chair and walked over to the window and looked at the view of the sunset. He turned back to look at Sarah and said "Some things are a constant in both of our times, not everything is different.

The sun, moon, stars, mountains, oceans, continents, they will always be the same. Things change, modes of transportation of course, you know that yourself, Sarah, from history. Lots of changes can be made in two hundred years. Yes Sarah, time travel tunnels are found all over the world in 2212. They're actually a natural occurrence that has been harnessed in the future. They can take humans anywhere in the world, and beyond. Humans use them exclusively in the future instead of, well, cars, planes, ships, or trains. Those are all gone in 2212. No one really misses them with the fuel wars and pollution."

C2 came up to Wynn and he petted him and said "Oh, and I am not a robot we, are called Androids, and  even a dog like C2 can't really tell the difference. But C2 can tell the difference between good and bad humans. And this is the reason why C2 and I left the human family I worked for."

Sarah fell back into her chair. Ok so android robot guy came through a time tunnel. And those are natural? Why am I beliving this. Its crazy. " But wait, you eat food! Robots don't eat! " Sarah shook her head. I'm crazy she thought. "Why did you leave?" Such a world it sure sounds cool anyway. Sarah scratched her head and looked at C2. He looked at her then Wynn then back to her. Waiting for a touching hand.

Wynn sat down in the chair again and looked at Sarah and said, "Do you want to know why I left my human family and ended up here?"

"The family I had didn't care about me at all. They didn't need a companion or anything like that. They treated me not as an equal but as a servant. They never talked to me except to tell me what to do. They never invited me to go on any of their vacations, or even out to dinner. They just left me standing at the door with C2. They really never noticed me at all. I was wallpaper as far as they were concerned."

"But their children did notice me and treated me very badly. I was with the children most of the time because their parents were always out and they resented having me as a replacement for their parents. They would invent games and call me and set traps. They would trip me on the stairs to see if I would fall, especially when I was carrying food. Even if their parents saw it, they would ignore their children's bad behavior and say just clean it up Wynn, or just fix it."

"No human in the family cared about C2 either. The family ignored C2 and never played ball with him or took him for a walk, or fed him or gave him water. That was my job after the novelty of getting a dog quickly wore off. That's why C2 loved me and missed me enough to follow me through the time tunnel. I didn't take him, he followed me here the day after I left. They probably haven't noticed C2's not there, but they'll notice I'm not there. When he followed me here the day after I left, you saw him come through the time tunnel in front of the library near the park."

"Not all humans treat their androids badly. Some really do see them as friends and companions, and some androids are treated much worse than I was, but I won't tell you about that, Sarah. So that's why I left my time, hoping to get as far away as I could."

More pieces clicked in Sarah's mind. She still had trouble fathoming it as a whole. But some how it seemed real. She ran her hand though her hair and sighed. A forgoten shadow a scape goat. Yeah I'd want to run too. She thought. "Still you ate food! And drank my coffee! How is that not human? Show me do you have some off switch or somthing? And how did C2 happen to know how to use the time tunnel thingy? Is it something you just walk through? And what of the world? Surly there are cool cell phones! " Sarah was a little excited now. A whole new world that she could get first dibs at what it looks like. But thats if its real. Is it real? Sarah shook her head again tring to pay attention to Wynn without drifting away in thought.

Wynn thought Sarah was OK now that the truth had come out. About where he was from, what he really was, and how he got here in her living room. 

Wynn said "Well, only the humans have access to the time tunnels.  Androids have to get permission to travel with a human. Androids can never enter a time tunnel alone. I was able to do it because the human father of the family I worked for was a high-level time tunnel tech. At dinner one night he was talking about the time tunnel he just finished tuning. Why, I guess he thought it was fixed!  I saw his access pass to that tunnel and used it to run away. C2 must have been the next one to go through, we both ended up here. I am sure they have it sealed off again; they will get two error messages one for me and one for C2. The human family will not look for me, they will just say I am lost and write me off on their insurance." 

Wynn had a to laugh when Sarah asked him to show her the off switch for eating food!

Wynn just simply told Sarah "We androids are modified with an incinerator that will disintegrate anything we drink or ingest. It's one of the characteristics that the humans have, and wanted us to have also. So much of the social aspect revolves around food.

Wynn yawned and stretched faking fatigue, and looked at Sarah who seemed tired but still deep in thought. Wynn then said "I will take C2 out for a bit before he falls asleep." Sarah looked up and said, "Yeah OK, when you come back you can just sleep on the couch with C2."

Sarah shook her head and went to her room. "Maybe a nights rest will help" she muttered to herself. She emptyed her pockets into a little bowl upon the dresser . A shadow across the window made Sarah jump. She looked out and didn't see a thing. She blamed herself for too much coffee. "Your on the seconed story nobody is out there" she muttered. Sarah got ready for bed and just pulled back her sheets when another shadow broke the stream of moonlight. She spun around looking for a weapon. A tiny baseball bat grabed her eye. Only a foot long she had gotten it at a gift shop. But its all she seen in a flash. She ran to the window and without looking flung it open. She squeeled in fright. The creepy guy from the down stairs apartment was hiding on the fire escape! She brought the little bat down hard as she could with both hands it cracked in two over his head he yelped and fell down to the bushes. "Jerk!" Sarah screamed after. ....

Wynn was taking a long walk in the moonlight with C2.  He wasn't really tired he never has to sleep, but he knew Sarah and C2 had to sleep. " Ok C2  he said lets head back to Sarah's place so she doesn't worry about where we are."  After a while when they were close Sarah's apartment building, C2 stopped and alerted Wynn that he heard something.  Then Wynn heard it too ! what was it ?  C2 heard Sarah's voice and started to run towards her barking ! 

Wynn could see Sarah in an upstairs window and she was yelling at someone below but where ?  Wynn ran up the fire escape to where Sarah was. C2 how ever didn't follow Wynn and went in the bushes  barking ! Wynn met up with Sarah on the fire escape and said " Sarah what happened ?"

Sarah was so focused on the creepy guy she hardly noticed Wynn untill he spoke to her. She jumped and shook the broken half of her bat at the guy who was still sprawled out in the bushes. C2 had found him and was letting every body know. "That... that... figgen creep! He was watching me! I hit him! I...I...I have to call the cops don't let him go Wynn! Make sure the cops get him!" Sarah dashed into the kitchen she was shaking so bad she dialed the wrong number twice but she took a deep breath and made the call. ...

All at once the cops were there, Wynn didn't want them to interview him, He has no human forms of I,D.

So he waited outside in the night air watching. After the cops talked to Sarah and left in the patrol car with creepy guy. Wynn decided he would look around before he went up to Sarah's apartment. C2 was with

Sarah so Wynn could be quite without C2 barking again.

Wynn noticed the window in creepy guys down stairs apartment was open, he looked inside and didn't hear anyone inside. He thought the Cops must have gone into the apartment to see if anyone else was there, and perhaps forgot about the open window. Wynn climbed in and walked around, It looked the same as it did when he and Lou were fixing the plumbing problem. Wynn was about to leave when he heard someone just outside the door going up the steps to Sarah's apartment.

Sarah had C2 at her feet he lay on his back wagging his tail with a pleading look. Sarah smiles at him sipping her tea. She had desided she had her coffee limit. A knock to the door started Sarah but then she remembered that she had called Lou. She got up to answer and Lou was there hanging his head. "Are you ok?" He ask. Sarah stepped back to let him in. "I'm ok but I don't want that guy back down stairs anymore Lou. " Lou nooded. " Yeah about that. Sorry I was fooled. Um we need to talk. " Sarah nodded. Its about the creepy guy she thought. . " What about ?" She ask anyway......

Wynn could hear a knock on Sarah's door and then he heard Sarah open the door and let someone in.

Wynn waited a couple minutes and opened the door of creepy guys apartment, and went upstairs to Sarah's and knocked before he went in. He saw that it was Lou the landlord sitting with Sarah, and C2 came over to Wynn happy to see him.

  "Hi Wynn were have you been ? Asked Sarah. I called Lou after the cops left. He wanted to come over tonight and find out what happened, and we were just talking about getting creepy guy out of the downstairs apartment. I can't live here if he comes back! " said Sarah. Lou said " Well Sarah doesn't have to worry that won't happen. He bounced his rent check anyway, so he's not coming back even if he does post bond. I will just rent a storage unit for his stuff. Wynn could you help me pack up his stuff this week end ?"

Wynn was very happy to hear that creepy guy won't be back." Yes I'll help you Lou. I was just down there and looked around after the cops left. The window was open near the fire escape in his apartment.

I did not see anything." said Wynn

Lou looked at Wynn and said " Yeah he must have thought Sarah was going to be alone tonight, I don't think he would have tried that if he thought you were coming back. Are you staying with Sarah ? Where do you live?"

Although Lou offered Wynn a job as a apartment repairman, Lou hadn't asked Wynn where he lived.

He must of thought I was staying with Sarah for some reason thought Wynn. But now he is asking and Wynn looked to Sarah not sure what she would want him to say.

Wynn also remembered Sarah saying she couldn't have a dog in her apartment either, But Lou knew how much Sarah liked C2. Wynn just stammered" I well.. no don't think I do have a ..At that moment Sarah cut him off.

"Its just for a couple of days Lou" Sarah interupted. She didn't want Lou to kick him out since Wynn doesn't have anybody else. "Wynn has helped so far. And C2 isn't any trouble. He doesn't have a place of his own I was just helping him. " Sarah looked down to C2. She hated the thought of the little guy not having a warm home or food. Then she had a idea. She looked up to Lou and and said "Lou what if Wynn takes the down stairs apartment?"

Lou said " that's a good idea and Wynn can move in after we get everything out."  Wynn sat down with them and said" he would pay Lou from his first pay check." That felt really good to Wynn to be able to pay for his own place.

Lou Iooked at Wynn and said " You remind me of myself when I first got here.  I was alone and found a friend like Sarah to help me too."  Wynn looked at Lou and said how long have you been here ? " Lou said about 20 years now. Every now and then one of us comes through, I know the woman that helped me knew someone in the FBI. And I was able to get a Human Identity. With her help I was able to get a job and buy this place and the home I live in now. I can help you to get a human identity also Wynn."

Wynn looked at both Lou and Sarah and said " I never had anyone help me before, and I never had friends or family before just C2 . Thank you ! I was so angry at humans before I met Sarah, and now I have met another free android and friend here with you Lou. This was no mistake coming here I was going home ! "
