Favorite song lyrics?

[ Edited ]

I had an idea that we could share some of our favorite song lyrics of course crediting the artist's work.  I'll start with some of mine...

"A little more free" by Katelyn Tarver

"I was never a part of your group

So I'm going to push on through it

You say that I am missing out on it

But, I will show you what I can do

So thank you for giving up on me

It turns out that's just what I needed

To be a little more free"

"Shoebox" by Brie Larson

"Hey you  I think you going in the wrong direction

Hey you I can be everything you want

And after all this time you must had been something to special to me

Cause I kept your picture in my shoebox"

"Falling into history"  by Brie Larson

"I fell out of you and me

Fading out of view

and falling into history"

"Something in me"  by Katelyn Tarver

"Something in me

I want to reach out with both my hands

Go over the edge and see where I land

Something in me

Wants to see what's out there

It's something I have to do

It's not you

It's something in me"

Help me down the crooked road. Lead me to the light. I'm not sure I know the way but with you beside me, I'm certain we'll make it through.

Re: Favorite song lyrics?

Great idea, Shadowcat!  I am currently obsessed with The Gaslight Anthem and The Horrible Crowes, both fronted by lead singer Brian Fallon.  His lyrics are so amazing, and if you don't know this music, I highly recommend it!  Gaslight is punk rock/alternative, and The Horrible Crowes are technically classified as alternative, but I think they break all boundaries and don't fit any particular mold.  You just have to listen to get to what I mean.  Here are just a few of my favorite lyrics:

"Red At Night" by The Gaslight Anthem

I was born in a town where the rivers flow free/

On a January night when the cold winds freeze/

I got an Irish name and an injury/

Blessing and a curse down on me...

"Crush" by The Horrible Crowes

Sometimes I'm up, Lord, and sometimes I'm down/

God's gonna trouble the water/

And sometimes I'm almost level with the ground/

God's gonna trouble the water...

"The Backseat"

In the backseats of burned out cars/

In the disenchantment lane/

The ideal angels twist and turn/

And ask forgiveness for future mistakes/

But you and I we've been through this/

Maybe a hundred times before/

Always hitching rides with strangers/

Papa warned us about before...

And of course there are the lyrics in my signature line below each post! :smileyvery-happy:

"You found the bandages inside the pen/ And the stitches on the radio." - Gaslight Anthem

"Sometimes You Can't Make it on Your Own" by U2

Tough,

You think you've got the stuff.

You're telling me and anyone,

You're hard enough.

You don't have to put up a fight.

You don't have to always be right.

Let me take some of the punches,

For you tonight.

Listen to my now,

I need to let you know,

You don't have to go in alone.

And it's you when I look in the mirror,

And it's you when I don't pick up the phone.

Sometimes you can't make it on your own.

 "Pale" by Within Temptation

The world seems not the same
Though I know nothing has changed
It's all my state of mind
I can't leave it all behind
I have to stand up to be stronger

I have to try
To break free
From the thoughts in my mind
Use the time that I have
I can say goodbye
Have to make it right
Have to fight
'Cause I know in the end it's worthwhile
That the pain that I feel slowly fades away
It will be all right

I know
I should realize
Time is precious
It is worthwhile
Despite how I feel inside
Have to trust it'll be alright
Have to stand up to be stronger

Oh, this night is too long
Have no strength to go on
No more pain I'm floating away

Through the mist I see the face
Of an angel, calls my name
I remember you're the reason I have to stay

"Angel"  by Within Temptation

Blinded by faith
I couldn't hear
All the whispers
The warning's so clear

No remorse 'cause I still remember
The smile when you tore me apart.

"Lithium" by Evanescence

And in the end I guess I had to fall.
Always find my place among the ashes.

I can't hold on to me,
Wonder what's wrong with me.

"What is Eternal" by Trans-Siberian Orchestra

What good's a life that leaves nothing behind?

Not a thought or a dream that might echo in time.

"I've Got a Dream" from Tangled.

I've got a dream.

I've got a dream.

Yes way down, deep inside,

I've got a dream.

"Beauty and the Beast."

Tale as old as time,

Song as old as rhyme.

Beauty and the Beast.

"Once Upon a December"

Dancing bears
Painted wings
Things I almost remember,
And a song someone sings
Once upon a December

Someone holds me safe and warm,
Horses prance through a silver storm,
Figures dancing gracefully,
Across my memory,

Someone holds me safe and warm,
Horses prance through a silver storm,
Figures dancing gracefully,
Across my memory,

Far away, long ago

Glowing dim as an ember.
Things my heart used to know,

Things it yerns to remember,
And a song someone sings
Once upon a December

And a song someone sings
Once upon a December

'Of wings and words and dancing milkweed seeds...'

What I'm not the only one that listens to Trans-Siberian Orchestra? I love their music! I'll post some of my lyrics once I can find out who sings this line "Fried chicken and gasoline" I'm terrible at matching names to music.

Re: Favorite song lyrics?

More favorites of mine

"Ring a bell" by Bonnie Pink  I love the opening line of this song

"Reaching out for no man's land

To take a breathe and take a chance

I'd walk a thousand nights to change the world"

"Someone watching over me" by Hilary Duff

"So I won't give up

No I won't break down

Sooner than it seems life turns around

And I will be strong

Even if it all goes wrong

When I'm standing in the dark

I'll still believe

Someone watching over me"

"Love just is" by Hilary Duff

 First verse

"When the night won't fall and the sun won't rise
And you see the best as you close your eyes
When you reach the top as you bottom out
But you understand what it's all about

Nothing's ever what it seems
In your life or in your dreams
It don't make sense, what can you do
So I won't try makin' sense of you"

Second verse

"When you ask to stay and then disappear

It seems you're gone but you're really here
When every move seems out of place
But every kiss is filled with grace

Some things never get defined
In your heart or in your mind
It don't make sense, what can you do
So I won't try makin sense of you"

Help me down the crooked road. Lead me to the light. I'm not sure I know the way but with you beside me, I'm certain we'll make it through.

Re: Favorite song lyrics?

GS2991 - Puff the Magic Dragon is a great song! It's by Peter, Paul, and Mary from 1963. If you like folk music, you should check out Bob Dylan's early stuff (he's my all-time favorite!) and for a more contemporary band, The Waifs, a great group from Australia.

"Miracle Drug" By U2

I want a trip inside your head,

Spend the day there...

To hear the things you haven't said,

And see what you might see.

I want to hear you when you call.

Do you feel anything at all?

I want to see your thoughts take shape and walk right out.

"City of Blinding Lights "By U2

Neon heart and day glow eyes.

A city lit by fireflies.

They're advertising in the skies

For people like us.

"Where the Streets Have No Name" By U2

I want to run.

I want to hide.

I want to tear down the walls

That hold me inside.

I want to reach out

And touch the flame.

Where the streets have no name.

I want to feel

Sunlight on my face.

I see the dust cloud disappear

Without a trace.

I want to take shelter

From the poison rain

Where the streets have no name.

Re: Favorite song lyrics?

By George Harrison

"While my guitar gently weeps"

From "Bed Of Roses" by Bon Jovi (really, just about any lyrics from Bon Jovi though!)

"Well, this hotel bar's hangover whisky's gonna try..."

From "Send In The Clowns" by Stephen Sondheim

"Making my entrance again with my usual flare

Sure of my lines

Nobody's there

Isn't it rich

Isn't it queer

Losing my timing this late in my career"

From "Welcome To The Black Parade" by My Chemical Romance

"So paint it black and take it back we'll shout it loud and clear

Defiant till the end we hear the call

to carry on"

From "Walk Through The Fire" by Joss Whedon

"I touch the fire and it freezes me

I look into it and it's black

Why can't I feel? My skin should crack and peel

I want the fire back"

From "I've Got A Theory" by Joss Whedon

"And what's with all the carrots?

What do they need such good eyesight for anyway?"

"It's do or die

Hey I've died twice"
