Re: Getting to Know You

Hi there = ]

My name's Brittany. I'm twenty-one years old and I've been writing since Elementary school. I've gone through several stages with my writing through the years and I've now discovered my love for Dark Poetry. Several people have read my writing and had the nerve to respond with ignorance and negativity because they couldn't understand the meaning behind the subject matter (including my family.) Regardless, I continue to write and if it causes controversy or shakes things up, so-be-it. I know I can write (not tooting my own horn, just saying this as a confidence builder) and I've always known I am meant to do it. My former Creative Writing teacher is amazing (and my favorite teacher) for instilling in me the drive to keep writing.

Currently, I'm working on a poetry book and I'm going to try and get it published. I'm choosing not to post any writing until it's finished, just to prevent any spoilers (possible in a poetry book? Ha ha :smileytongue:)

I also love to read, mainly Horror/ Gothic Horror. The writing styles of H.P. Lovecraft intrigue and inspire me, as well as the works of other writers of the same genre. I bought a NOOK Color and am looking for friends who enjoy reading Horror/Gothic Horror to add to my NOOK Friend's List. Out of everyone I know, no one loves to read = [

I apologize for the length and I'm looking forward to getting to know some other writers = ]

Re: Getting to Know You

Thank you for the welcome, GS! I guess I could dig through my files and put something up, since I haven't let anyone read my work in quite a while. *A warning: whatever I post may be a little dark for some people's tastes; however, I love my work all the same :smileyvery-happy:

Re: Getting to Know You

This is a piece I wrote a few months ago. It is about others struggling to understand my ideas, although I will always think they're perfect :smileywink:

Bondage Torn

Straddle the line;

Between appropriate;

And indigestible.

Finger my pride;

Split it right down the middle.

My creation's attire;

Is woven in disgust;

Tongue and cheek;

Attraction's device.

Run yours down my spine;

Trigger your drought against;

My creative wasteland.

Defensive lips of mine smile;

As a passive thirst;

Isn't wanted here.

Catch me angry;

As strengthened breaths;

Escape a blue face.

It's your turn now;

As you struggle to breathe;

Throat against perception;

I constrict your airway;

With a controversial tongue.

My ideas don't bond with you;

As you bond with me.

Hand against thigh;

You tear my flesh;

A new instinct.

Nose against wound;

You inhale my passion;

The passion of an artist's sin.

Lips against lips below;

You deliberately suck out my soul;

My ideas don't bond with you;

As you;

Bond with me.

Re: Getting to Know You

Interesting. You can start a thread and post more poems. You might get more feedback that way. Enjoy the board!

Re: Getting to Know You

Hello this will be the first B&N community that i am a part of and submitting a post. I am in Greenville, NC. I have been writing off and on since grade school. I recently tried to get a writing group going but my Funky schedule can make it difficult toschedule meeting times plus i had no other would be writers who wanted to get involved. My first serious writing outside of a class was centered around finding an outlet during some serious times in my life. It later developed into a hobby and i genuinely enjoy it but lack discipline when it comes to editing it. I am thrilled to find this community. I got my nook color earlier this Yearand found you guys by accident.

Re: Getting to Know You

Hello,

I'm new here. Not to Barnes and Noble, but to the community here online. As I was reading I, like a few others here, have some children who are older than a lot of those posting here. I've some that are quite a bit younger too. All girls ranging from the ages of 27 tomorrow, the 3rd of Jan., to 6 on the 18th of Jan. Yes, they all have birthdays around Christmas! How do you spell all girls, born around Christmas? DESTITUTE! I am teasing, but they keep me quite young and busy. I have four daughters; 4 cats, 3 dogs, 2 birds, and a Grandpa. Anyone got a Llama and a peanut dispensing machine? I could charge admission then. Okay, I will settle for a partridge in a pear tree. Lets face it, I am a very well fed novelist.

I'm a voracious reader and a prolific writer. I have decided that this is the year I will boldly go where I've not gone before and get published. I've been working on a trilogy that is fantasy Adult/YA with paranormal romance. Hmm. My soon to be found agent is going to just adore me! :: grins :: Book one is finished, in its last stages of polishing, book two is a hideous chaotic mess desperate for editing but nevertheless, written out. Book three, oh my. Well the plot line for it is about six feet long, printer paper taped end to end. That one is positively screeching at me to get off plotting and onto pages! And after that, I don't think its all going to fit into three books. Time will tell. And I've novels stacked behind that, and notebooks filled with ideas. I wish there was more time in a day! So not fair to only get 24 hours and demand that we sleep during a portion of it as well!

I'm a Nanowrimo freak. Anyone else here partake of that yearly insanity? I adore it and have done it for seven years now I think. Exhilarating to leave one's useless internal editor locked in a box, in a closet, in the basement.

Yes, I am a bit quirky, and off kilter from time to time. Does it show? I had better stop writing before I post up a novella, it may be near that already. I am looking forward to meeting others here, I love what I have seen and read so far, and Happy New Years to you all!

Re: Gettaing to Know You

Welcome gain! If you think you know your character I chalange you to grill him/her. In my excercise The Grill. It may be a few pages back but I found it dificult. Enchanted Redwood is a lessor dificulty version. But there are all kinds to take part in. The others come up with great ones.

Re: Getting to Know You

Hey guys. My name's Shannon(would rather not give last name). I'm in 7th grade, so I'm 12, 13 on March 1st(gee, don't I feel young here). I've been writing since 6th grade, reading since I was 2 or 3. I love fantasies like Harry Potter, Unearthly, and others. I will read other genres, but fantasy is my favorite by far. I am a drawer. In classes like social studies and math all I do is doodle. I mostly draw animals. Rarely do I ever draw people, probably because I have hardly any self confidence in my art. I'm one of the few-friends, weird girl types. Music is my life. Specifically rock. Skillet is my favorite band. Other bands I love are Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin, Linkin Park, Adelitas Way, and so on(Listening to I will Not Bow by Breaking Benjamin, I'm pretty much addicted to this song right about now). I hide my love of rock from others, though I'm starting to open up. My writing is okay, I guess better than the average seventh grader, though not by much. I write about my life, though the main character isn't me. I have characters similar to people I know in real life. There are usually 3 people I put in stories. Me, as the main character, my sister, as the evil, cold-blooded bully, and my crush, as, well, the crush. I have one sister, one brother, mom and dad. A few friends. One best friend. I recently got transferred to a new school. It's a brand new charter school. My mom wanted me to try it out. Way better than the other school. Now, before I write a whole book, I'm gonna post this and go listen to I Will Not Bow once again for the millionth time.

Re: Getting to Know You

Hi, I'm Autumn Miller. I recently turned 17 and I love to read and write. I write for fun, me and my friends swap stories to critique each other. I love reading, especially horror, Stephen King being my all time favorite!!! I also love manga(japanese comics). Other than horror, I read from various genres. I'm not too picky, as long as it isn't history. I don't like history much.
