Re: Getting to Know You

Yes I have actually, I'm majoring in English.

There sandy seems the golden sky
And golden seems the sandy plain.
No habitation meets the eye
Unless in the horizon rim,
Some halfway up the limestone wall,
That spot of black is not a stain
Or shadow, but a cavern hole,
Where someone used to climb and crawl
To rest from his besetting fears.
I see the callus on his soul
The disappearing last of him
And of his race starvation slim,
Oh years ago - ten thousand years.

I just posted what I see as my best work.

Re: Getting to Know You

Hi Everyone, My name is Will Decker (Bigbus) and after reading a few posts here, I feel like an old man LOL, I am currently working on my 11th novel, an Action/Adventure. I write Sci/Fi/Fantasy, Action/Adventure, and DIY Manuals covering everything from construction topics to binding books. I live fulltime in a converted 40' Prevost and am currently on the Oregon Coast. I enjoy reading, mountain biking, and my number one passion, writing. I wish all of you the best of luck with your writing careers. Most people don't realize the commitment or tremendous amount of time it takes to complete a novel. But even though my time is limited, I try to read as much new material from budding new authors as I can. Will

Re: Getting to Know You

Hi Stephanie,

Thank you for the warm welcome. In answer to your question, yes, I have all 11 novels and 1 bookbinding manual in the Nook. I am currently working on a book (as usual) and may be heading farther up the Oregon coast here shortly. My wife does a lot of volunteer work and generally we go where she's needed. I'm just the driver LOL. Take care, Will

Re: Getting to Know You

By the way, Will don't feel old, you said you felt old because some of the people like myself are very young.  There's people of all ages here, and I see it as an opportunity to learn from someone with a lot more experience then I have.  I'm sure you learned a lot that can help a young writer improve her skills.

Re: Getting to Know You

Hi everyone,

My name is Shannon Higgins.  I have been on the B&N boards for a few months, mainly on the PubIt! forum, and I just came across this thread.  How fun!  I am a nanny and homeschool teacher, as well as being a writer.  I am the author of the Willow Ryan series, a collection of women's fiction that is set in the 1980's in Southern California.  The first two titles in the series are available as ebooks, the third will be up soon, and I am working on the fourth.  I am never without a project!

Born and raised in Southern California, I moved to the East Coast when I was 13 (I was born old and grew up fast), but still consider CA home.  I like the sound of crashing waves, detest the noise tree frogs make at night, love winter and hate humidity.  Creativity is always appreciated and I have no patience for ignorance.

I love reading novels by Kristin Hannah, Robin Jones Gunn, Meg Cabot, Melody Carlson, and Debbie Macomber, and I think my Willow Ryan series could find a happy home on the same bookshelves that house these authors' books.  Thanks for listening!

Re: Getting to Know You

Hello! My name is John Gaffield and I have been on the B & N boards for close to a month and just found this board. I am an automotive engineer in southeast Michigan. I am married with two children. Though I feel young, I am closer to 50 than 40. Most of my writing has been technical for my job. I started writing my first haunted house novel about six years ago. I finished the draft for the second novel about five years ago. I finally got around to publishing the first novel, Heir to Winston Manor, last November 2010. I published the second novel, The Wahl House Curse, this January 2011. I also have two free short ghost stories that I published on Smashwords that are available at B & N as well. They are Slow Down  and The Ghost of Birch River Cabin. I enjoy writing fiction stories, since it allows me to write stories in the direction I want them to go and not be a dry technical like my work related documents. My intention is to write the type of books I want and if at least a few people enjoy reading them, I will be satisfied.

One website blog I have been a part of for a while is http://theindiespot.org/. It is a site that was set up for independent authors and interested readers to interact. There are about 600 members now and it is continuing to grow. I look forward to being a part of this forum as well!

Re: Getting to Know You

Hello everyone.  I'm Elijah and I'm new here to the B&N Community.

I'm an author of contemorary literary fiction, short fiction, genre fiction and humor, as well as a poet (hint, the ebooks are available on B&N Nook, heh).

In 2010, I served as Associate Producer and co-screenwriter for an independent feature film entitled, Focal Point.  Our movie is listed on IMDB.com.

I enjoy art house films, literature and poetry (especially Haruki Murakami and Emily Dickinson), and I also think the old-school Arnold Schwarzenegger movies are so funny.

Hi Elijah, I'm Stephanie and I want to welcome you the writing room.  I wished I could do a longer welcome but I'm in the process of getting ready for a trip for the week so I have to keep this short.  We love seeing new faces at the writing room and I am looking forward to reading your posts soon.

Re: Getting to Know You

Hi I'm Alex (TylerAE). I am fifteen and live in Oklahoma with my family. A year ago I started writing a personal story and it grew into a novel. I never really thought of myself as a writer until I showed someone my manuscript. I moved the OK a year ago, but still wish that I lived in Texas. But anyways...I'm trying to pursue traditional publishing, but if that doesn't happen (which I wouldn't doubt) then my novel should be an ebook soon. I am currently working on the sequel. I'm not sure what else to say but good luck with your writing careers!

Re: Getting to Know You

Hi Everyone!  My name is Sheila and I'm new to the B&N Community.  I began my first novel two years ago, but didn't get very far (life gets in the way sometimes!).  I've started over and am now working at a snail's pace, but any progress at all is good!  I fall into the romance category -- I'm a sucker for a good relationship drama.

I work full-time and attend college part-time, studying for a Business degree.  I'm married with two children, one is grown and the other is almost there.  I've had a love of reading fiction since I was a teenager and I discovered that I enjoy writing in high school.  It's always been a dream to write a novel, and then one day it dawned on me "Why not?"  So here I am.
