So, I'm pretty new to the writing stories and I wanted to put this question out into the universe of writers that seem to inhabit this board.

I have two story ideas rolling around in my head.  One is a funny, adventure story that would probably end up in the fantasy section of the bookstore.  The other is darker, more of a psychological thriller.  Do you find that you write stories better if you write in a genre that you read or do any of you branch out to new areas of stories.

I read more fantasy, but I have been known to read fiction.  If anyone has any thought on the matter.

I agree with Flowering. u shuld rite them both. just not at the same time ;D and wen i rite stories, the genre varies by wut mood im in.  ex.

 mad= murder mystery

 sad= drama

 happy= romance

 etc. etc. etc. etc.  hope that helps ! ! ! ! !  good luck

 Reading the kind of fiction you want to write can be a great way to learn about the possibilities in that genre. You might start with the genre that you know well, as you already have that foundation in place. When you feel ready to branch out, go for it! Make sure you read up in that genre, too. The more you see how other authors negotiate the craft, the better you’ll be able to make choices in your own work. Good luck!

I would definitely write them both but you may want to read a little more psychological thrillers before you start that one. It will help you get a better feel for the genre.

You should write both but try to make an outline first so you dont get mixed up or confused about what goes on which lol .But yeah try it maybe you'll be the next bestseller lol.

Okay, well, to start off, you have to do a few things.

1. Familiarize yourself with what your writing.  Ex- Fanstacy- Read fanstcy, write a little, edit it, read some, research.

2. Start coming up with ideas.  Or just start writing from the top of your head.  that's what I do.

3.  Learn more about the topic, write, read. 

So, since you read Fantascy more, I'd write it.  But if you want to read a book about dark stuff, learn more about that, it's all your choice. 

P.S. you don't even have to do these steps, just trying to help!

I've learned that I just can't write from an outline.  I  just have to start writing and then tweak it later.
