Power of the Pen

On wednesday and friday I tried out for a writing competiton club. We write creative short narratives, but only in the matter of 40 minutes.

Here were the writing prompts we only had to do one at school

The MEss

and The Bargain

I did the mess at school and heres a summary about my short story. Its about a girl whos just transitioning from middle school to high school and shes really nervous. Shes walking in the hallway when she sees this redhead that asked if her name is sam which is her name. SHe leads her down an old staircase only to find torn binders, books, ripped pages, cut up backpacks and etc. sam asks the girl about the mess, but she dsnt answer. Instead she leads her into this room where theres this wormlike monster with 3 dozen red beady eyes. THe redhead tells her that shes the chosen one. NExt, a magical sword appears in her hands and before she knows it she kicking monster butt. Everything gets darker and darker. Her mom tells her to wake up because they re just around the corner. As she approaches the school she sees the redhead and the redhead mouths "Good job sam" AND THATS WHERE I LEFT OFF

We had to do the other one we didnt do at school at home. For the bargain I wrote about a newly wed waitress who kidnaps a supermarket employee because the raised the prices of their food. She gives the employee back and the employee dsnt press charges and the store gives her coupons, discounts, and a part time job there.

Hi Bee!

You have a great "sense of story", or how to craft a story's beginning-middle-end in a short period of time.  Very good!  (Most of us struggle with a story-arc.)

Interesting that one story had a supernatural-mystery theme.  And the other had a "fed up citizen" theme.

So, in this Writing Competition Club, do they give you an opening or closing sentence?  Or a theme to write about?  I took a Mystery Writing Class one time.  One evening the teacher (a published mystery writer) gave us the closing sentence "And then he jumped off the cliff."  We had to write a quick few paragraphs of a mystery that ended with that sentence.

I made the team and they always give us writing prompts to do. My first tournament is in January.

Your good. I would love to read such imaginitive stories such as those. The first one was like reading a good ol' fantasy, and the second sounded more serious and complex. You should post one of the stories!
