Since 1997, you’ve been coming to BarnesandNoble.com to discuss everything from Stephen King to writing to Harry Potter. You’ve made our site more than a place to discover your next book: you’ve made it a community. But like all things internet, BN.com is growing and changing. We've said goodbye to our community message boards—but that doesn’t mean we won’t still be a place for adventurous readers to connect and discover.

Now, you can explore the most exciting new titles (and remember the classics) at the Barnes & Noble Book Blog. Check out conversations with authors like Jeff VanderMeer and Gary Shteyngart at the B&N Review, and browse write-ups of the best in literary fiction. Come to our Facebook page to weigh in on what it means to be a book nerd. Browse digital deals on the NOOK blog, tweet about books with us,or self-publish your latest novella with NOOK Press. And for those of you looking for support for your NOOK, the NOOK Support Forums will still be here.

We will continue to provide you with books that make you turn pages well past midnight, discover new worlds, and reunite with old friends. And we hope that you’ll continue to tell us how you’re doing, what you’re reading, and what books mean to you.

SOCIETY RULES

This is my new poem, Society Rules. Please tell me what you think. Thanks :smileyhappy:

SOCIETY RULES

She can't tell me what to do.

I follow my own rules.

She's driving me crazy

driving me mad.

Nothing is worse that the laws

She gave me.

I have to be loud and rude

like the rest of them.

I'm quiet and meek

and very smart too.

I don't want to be

like the rest of the group.

They are rude to grownups

and listen to Rap.

While I'm nice and humble

to all of my teachers

and Pink Floyd always make my day.

Middle School is the worst

that's all I have to say.

For you are growing up in a world

which you can't be afraid.

49% are preppy,

49% are goth.

What about the other 2% in the middle lot?

I'm that 2%,

Unique as can be.

I will change the world one day,

But right now I'm here alone.

No friends,

No fun and games.

All strict all day.

Sure I'm sad 90% of the day.

But as I look back from today,

I can see why the rules she made

were there,

and why I disobeyed.

Reminds me of an episode of sabrina the teenage witch where there's a part she says why do I have to fit in and be labeled.  As for rules and disobeying them.  Rules are made ultimately to protect yourself from well yourself usually, but to grow as a person sometimes you need to rebel from such rules.

Help me down the crooked road. Lead me to the light. I'm not sure I know the way but with you beside me, I'm certain we'll make it through.

Re: SOCIETY RULES

guitargirlHL, Brilliant!  The protagonist is stuck in a world where she is between a rock and a hard place.  She will be defiant to the status quo because the status quo is not she.

Re: SOCIETY RULES

Well, except for the goths and the rap music, that pretty much sums up my whole public school experience.  Very nice.

[ Edited ]

School is a trial endured...It doesn't define who we are, but then again can a person be defined?   Well done.
