Writing Buddies

There’s been lots of talk about finding the time and discipline to write. Deadlines can really help. So, how do you create and stick to deadlines? Try a writing buddy. Here’s how it works: You and your buddy (or buddies) agree on certain deadlines. On that deadline you have to send your buddy something new that you’ve written. You and your buddy might decide that a poem is “due” on Friday night of every week. Or you might decide that a new story or chapter is “due” on the 15th of every month. Sometimes just knowing someone is expecting you to send the work is enough motivation to commit it to the page. Buddies encourage each other and hold each other accountable. So, help your buddy meet his or her deadline.

If you’re interested in a writing buddy, post here. This thread will be a place to let others know that you’re interested. I’ll leave it to all of you to match up however you’d like. Take into consideration the frequency that you want to have deadlines. It might help to find someone who wants to work at the same pace you do.

A good idea Brandi!!  There is nothing like a deadline and some friendly prodding to do some writing!!

If anybody would like to be my writing buddy, I am putting myself out there.  I would rather be a story/chapter buddy than a poem buddy because my availability is sporadic, so something other than a daily deadline would work best for me.

Great idea!  If anyone would like to be my writing buddy, that would be great!  :]  I'd prefer stories and chapters, but I'll do poetry.  I just don't write poetry all the time.  I just can't sit down and write it, I have to wait intill an idea hits me.  You know? 

These are some things I like-

Fantasy

Paranormal

Suspence

Mystery

And just anything Fiction.   But those are my top four.  So, If you agree to any of those, we'd make great writing buddies!  Oh!  I just love saying-well typing- that word!  I have no idea why.  It's just fun I guess.

Oh and I have one question. 

1).  Would'nt we PM our passages so no one can steat our work?

I MUST trust that person. 

No one wants their hardwork stolen.  Right?  Well, I think so and I hope you do to.

I think it's a great idea, a deadline can be a wonderful motivator. I know I could use some motivation.

I have read a book about writing, and the book suggests that every writer should have a writing buddy.

So anyone still missing a buddy?

This sounds like a fantastic idea.  I've been looking for something just like this.  I would gladly participate if anyone will have me.  Just a few quick notes.

I can't do poetry.  It's not something I'm capable of doing well in any sense.

I'll write stories 'til the end of time, just don't expect any rhythm or rhyme.

Also a weekly or every other week schedule would be best for me.  I simply don't have the time for anything sooner than that.

Other than that, I write mainly sci-fi and fantasy style stories.

So...anyone interested?

Hey Inwytia, I've been looking for a writing buddy for what seems like forever. I write fantasy and although I don't write Sci-fi I enjoy reading it.  A weekly schedule would work for me so if you're still looking let me know.

This is an amazing idea! I have needed a writing buddy for sometime, I have noticed if you have close family or friends critique your work they try to be more supportive than try to give you constructive criticism to help your write better.  I mostly write fantasy and short stories but I also throw in a little poetry now and again.  A 2 week turn in schedule would work for me, if anybodys intrested!
