I have it as well on my NC.  I didn't try to open it, though. There's no option to delete or archive it, much like the standard apps that comes with the NOOK.

I do not know what it is, but just noticed it in my apps library.

I work for BN as a Nook person and this is new to me as well.  going to call store support tomorrow at work.  showed up on my tablet and am not sure what this is either but I know BN does not "test" things or automatically put apps onto customers' Nook accounts.  There is a new email app called k9 which is a free email app and very user friendly.

I told my Apps to sort by category. This is classified as "Entertainment".

When I got into the details, it says to contact the developer to report a problem.

                There is an email address there;

I had the app show up this morning. I didn't order it and  I want to get rid of it. Anyone know how?

Later ... I wrote to customer service about it.

I searched for it and here is one site I found:  http://scottgrasso.org/orgapp/android/

just talked to store support on the BN.com chat and this is what I was told for that AMV app:

this is a background update, which is an update for files to open amv format magazines/subscriptions and will support adobe magazine viewer content file formats.   some people will see just a white screen if it opens, the tech team has escalated this tech issue because they know it isn't yet working for some people after restarting or rebooting their devices.    The app will update as they get the issues fixed with it and then it will be an added preloaded app like those that come preloaded on the device.    This may take some time but the tech people are working on these updates.

mystery solved on the AMV app.

I have enough preloaded crap in my apps that I cant get rid of. I keep having to archive the ones that i want to keep others that i eant because of them.

                            Hello.

I have this symptom too. There are so many facets to discuss about this Barnes & Noble faux pas, but, I don't want to be a bore.

However, B&N email support instructed me to connect WiFi (which the NC always is-but they wouldn't know that) and perform a device "sync" and a power cycle. They think that will sort it. We'll see. After that, the PLAN B for them is a device reset. I don't know about you. but that is not what I want to hear.

So, usually when a company does something disruptive or harmful like this update is--they offer some form of compensation. Aha, but not Barnes & Noble. No sir.

If they screw up your "Iced double tall decaf nonfat vanilla one pump mocha no whip mocha" at Starbucks--they not only let you keep the screwed up drink but they make you another on the spot, and if that is not acceptable they offer your money back and a gift card of equal value of the drink for next time. If the barrista is unhappy about it--it does not show. They are happy to make it right at Starbucks.

Customer service anecdote #2--I just returned a pair of Timberland boots after 10 years (the best boots they made at the time) because on one of the boots--the sole separated from the upper. For boots that cost as much or more than a Nook Color - Timberland readily springs into action. They sent me a prepaid box and a RMA. They got the boots, inspected them, and agreed it was a manufacturing defect. They replaced the boots with the new best boots they make. No charge, no questions asked, no excuses. When I next buy boots for me, my wife, or four children--guess what kind of boots I will buy? You got it. Treat me right and I am a customer for life.

Doing the right thing and doing things right are the price good companies pay for my loyalty. What about you? Putting mus to work for their mistake and not offering us anything to sweeten the deal should be at their peril.

I will no longer patronize Barnes & Noble given their customer haughty service and arrogant tone. There are just too many ways for me to dispose of their product, and too many alternatives to replace them. Ones like Amazon - that I already know treat their customers better.

So if I have to reset my NC--sure, I'll play ball, but then on to EBAY it goes. (Make me an offer before the auction-I take Paypal.)

Off to Amazon I go for my Kindle Fire, or to Google for a Nexus...with Barnes & Noble left behind far far behind.

Sorry for the editorial, but people should know that they can be treated better and they are not prisoners, or guinea pigs of the Barnes & Noble software agreement.

Finally, it's a good thing Barnes & Noble doesn't build aircraft, de-fuse explosives, or perform brain surgery.

Yes. My only problem is that I cannot understand why B & N would install it on our devices without (1) telling us first and (2) perfecting it first. I initially assumed it was a Virus or a Trojan Horse. I was unable to delete it after multiple attempts. Although I considered the deregistration path that would erase everything, I have invested too much time and effort installing apps--many 3rd party-- and setting up things to start all over unless absolutely necessary. I contented myself with installing AVG antivirus and doing scans in the hope it would detect and deal with any problem. Although I doubt if B & N would even notice or care, I also held off on investing in one of the new nook hds. Thank you so much for solving the problem!

Do you know if this is causing a slow down for wi-fi? Just curious since this AMF app is in the process of downloading and my wi-fi has been slow.

After seeing this thread late last night, I checked my NC and sure enough it was in  my apps. I rebooted it  and it said "installing". An hour later it was still installing. Fearing a virus, I did the 8 failed-reboot factory reset process which set it back to 1.2 (apparently repartitionoing  long time ago replaced my 1.0 version with 1.2), and the AMV app was gone. This morning I manually installed 1.4.3, and AMV is still gone. Scary what they do without warning or explanation.

I don't know if anybody from BN actually monitors this forum, but they dropped the ball all the way around on this.  Somebody had to tell their IT group to push that update out - but they apparently never informed their 'agents' or customers. That is just poor business practice. And as of earlier today, they were aware of the issue, and still made no effort to inform their customers.

For those of us that have needlessly registered their devices, will the app be reissued?  I had one tech actually ask me for the order number, after I explained the issue to her twice.

                                                    1) thanks for calling support and reporting back to the community
                                                    2) I definitely agree about B&N dropping the ball on this: no heads up to the message boards? no e-mails?
                                                    3) thank you all for saving me panic and going through the reregistration stuff. I noticed this mystery app this morning and thought hack/virus; read my e-mail first to see if there was something from BN. Nope. This board was my next stop. My plan was then to sign into my BN acct and see if I could delete it from there.
Again, thanks all for saving some of us the grief. Boo to BN.

If it IS a valid app, it isn't working correctly and there is no way to stop it or remove it as far as I have been able to tell. The e-mail address for the developer is invalid.

Incidentally, I noticed that several other apps that I had already bought and installed had updates to download.  They may have been there before, unnoticed by me.

I had this app "just show up."  The quite distressing thing is that, since I did not know/recognize it, I was a little worried about it (couldn't delete it; couldn' archive it; couldn't open it) so I called "tech" support. The fellow I spoke with, "Adam," (sure sure) represented himself to be able to help but he had never even heard of this.  Based on what I've learned just here, he certainly should have heard of this and been able to tell me that and reassure me that it was some BN Nook shenanigans going on.

I literally had to explain the situation three to four times to him (not only that, but also spell everything out like one does: C as in Charlie etc.) And then finally after the last timme of being adament that this discussion was going on on the boards he says mumbles and something and so I thought he was "looking it up" only to find myself still on the line but no one else. That is not good and knowledgable customer service!

How much free space does that show?

Usually once you do a hard reboot and then hit the update button the problem gets resolved.

Yes, i consider it to be a currently incurable infection transmitted by malicious B&N malware. I notice that Alex never came back to offer any further info. His comment about the problem being caused by the need to upate was patently untrue because most of the afflicted devices seem to have been running the most current software version. Like most everyone else, the infection was transmitted to my NC when I went to the shop to download a new app. I have done a hard reboot and the offenders are no longer visibly downloading or installing but I am watching to see if the battery is still draining. I have the original NC from Nov 2010 with original partitioning and NO, I do not want , nor should I have to drive 45 miles to get it repartitioned because of BN's incompetence. I will still buy books from BN but the lack of software support that this device received has insured that I will never trust them to sell a functional, reliable device.

Just checked this morning and the AMV app is still there. I clicked on it to see what it would do since it shows almost partially downloaded after several weeks of the Nook Color being left on stand-by. It appeared on the Home screen and indicated "Installing" right from the beginning again. So I deleted it from the Home screen and turned the Nook off.

It should just download, install and be finished. The fact that it's either indicating that it partially downloaded/installed and then wants to install from the beginning again proves there's something eminently wrong.

                                                                                • Re: Anyone have the app AMV just show up?

I reloaded apps, turned wi-fi on and off, downloaded a new app from the shop and everything was still okay. After I turned the Nook off and then back on, the AMV was still gone but the Twitter was again saying installing as soon as I turned wi-fi on. It is actually installed on the device now and I was able to sign in but the icon still has the installing banner.

My first reaction is "what the  heck is that" 2nd "oh no i've been hacked!" 3rd go to barnes and noble app store and see if i can find it. 4th oh sh..., its not on the app store! 5th google search and got to this page. 6 find out it is from nook and is legit. 7 its been installing for over 2hrs, wtf?  8 finallyfound out that YOU NEED TO COMPLETELY POWER DOWN YOUR NOOK AND THEN TURN IT BACK ON.
