I bought the Bake Sale Murder by Leslie Meier months ago without cover art. Now they have 2 copies for sale, one with and one without the cover. I'm wondering when the cover will be restored to the one I bought. A while ago there was a thread on this site regarding lack of cover art. Some people couldn't understand why others complained when the cover was not available. I am of the opinion that covers should be available for all books because the B&N that I ordered my Nook from specifically used the color cover display as a selling point. They said the display was one more advantage that the Nook had over other ereaders.

I will pose this question.  Do you want cover art if it makes the book more expensive?  The reason I ask is that in some cases, the reason there is no cover art is because the publisher doesn't have the rights to the cover art for the eBook.  They would have to negotiate those rights with whoever owns the copyright on the cover art and them pay them for it.  I would assume the publishers would then pass the cost on to the consumer.  So, is cover art worth added cost to the book?

                    BKLVR-

I'm not sure how to respond to your question. I was never informed by any B&N representative that there would be a difference in price between books with or without cover art. In fact, all promotional material I have seen for the Nook shows cover art on the bottom screen, not empty gray boxes. Until I purchased books with gray boxes for covers, I was unaware that there would be any books for sale on the Nook without covers. If this was known to be an issue, I think B&N should have disclosed it before, and should most definitely change its current promotional material.

I'm not saying there would be any price increase, but if the cover art for the eBook has to be negotiated separately and therefore paid for separately, I would think that cost would get passed on.  B&N generally has no control over whether or not the cover art is available.  It's up to the publisher and again, whether or not they have the rights to include the cover.  The only thing they could really do is put up a notice that some books *may* not include cover art, which would be in the fine print and no one would read.  And would that really have stopped you from buying a Nook?

If someone could please explain to me, the books that I have listed below as well as others in this post, excepting "Trout Fishing, et al", all have cover art on my iPod - not on nook.

There are also some additional materials that are not represented in this post, also without cover art on nook, however with cover art on the iPod.

This includes the free material as well as the purchased material.  I am curious how this works?  No nook cover art, but iPod cover art, is curious.

I suspect that the cover art for "Trout Fishing, et al" is not available due to publisher issues.  That would ring true since it is not appearing on the iPod as well as nook.
