    Max epub books on ColorNook

I have been extensively testing out the Colornook and came across several problems.

One Problem:  What is the maximum number of ebooks (epub) that the Color can access?

The advertisement for the ColorNook shows that you can store about 6000 books on the internal memory.  This have proven to be correct, the only problem is, it can not access more than about 2600 books at a time.

It seems that in "library->books" it will show 0 books if the book count exceeds 2600.  In my experiment, I placed 3000 books and it showed 0 books.  I tried the search field, which will show books that match the search critera, but only results that are under 2600 items are actually shown.

The only way to see the books on your ColorNook that are over 2600 would be to traverse from My Files and select the book from there.

Has anyone else encountered this problem?

I have not, but you may want to check for this also in the nook threads.  There were reports that once the classic nook reaches a certain number of books (I think about 500 or so) in the BN Library, it starts to do similar things.

The only remedy people have had (if I remember correctly), was to transfer books to a microSD card and delete them from their BN library on the website.  Apparently, archiving didn't help because even if they were not seen by the user, the nook still saw and counted them.  One person had over 4000 BN books.

The problem if this is the case then is compounded by the fact that there is no way to get covers to show up on sideloaded DRMed material.

I do not believe there was any solution as yet, and I do not remember how old the thread was.

I have seen the same (0) Books issue for the Library after loading over 3000 books (all EPUB).  In my case, even reducing the number down to 2400 did not correct the issue.  In fact, I deleted all the books, and all the cover jpgs in both .docThumbs folder (main) and .thumbnails folder (MyFiles).  After reloading just 2400 books, I still could not get the library to show the covers.

Any of the 2400 books can be found with a search and the cover for books matching the search will then show in the library.  Using a search term of "th" will even bring up about 1200 books which will show up in the library.

But it is most frustrating not to be able to simply browse the entire 2400 book covers (or 3500 covers).  There also appears to be some cached area in memory which is retaining deleted book covers since the Color Nook showed hundreds of covers for books no longer on the reader.  Note that this was after deleting all the jpgs in those two folders.

Something is certainly broken in the Color Nook processing for book cover display in the library when you have a large numbe of books stored in the reader.

I'm just trying to understand here, are you talking about covers not displaying for sideloaded books or for those downloaded from BN directly to your NC?

I ask because you talk about removing cover images from your library and your my files.  I certainly wouldn't be removing the stuff willy nilly from the main library area, but would archive and/or delete them from your account online using your computer.  I understand that for nook owners, archiving did not help the 0 book count since those archived are still recognized by the nook.

You do not delete books from BN by deleting them on your NOOKcolor or nook for that matter and merely deleting them from it, does not solve the problem since the device will try to download them again.

Also, this on the nook was a problem with BN downloaded books I believe and I have not read of it involving sideloaded content.

2000 Books?? I would say the developers have no reason to think of this as a problem. The percentage of ereader users that will even come close to that many books on a device is probably less than 1% JMHO

Wow.  You're certainly entitled to any opinion, but that one's really lame.  IMO  :smileywink:

If they advertise 6,000 books in the internal memory, and it won't even handle 2 or 3,000, then that's a bug that needs to be fixed, plain and simple.  Even if it's not a bug that affects you (or me, yet) personally.  The devs should definitely think of this as a problem (though not as high a priority as some other problems already reported).

Basically what you're saying is you have no intention of ever using 90% of the space available on the device, and you're fine with that.  That may be, but others may not share your complacency.

And for others focusing on the Covers aspect, that's a separate and independent issue from what the OP was reporting.

And to the OP, thanks for reporting this.  Dang!  That means I'm not going to be able to load the Library of Congress on my NOOKcolor, as I was planning.  :smileyvery-happy:
