I had the same problem and just solved it. Put mail. In front of the pop server name. That seemed to solve it for me. Mousie

That fixed mine.  Outgoing server should have smtp in front of it.

Ex.  comcast.net would be   mail.comcast.net (for incoming server)  and the outgoing (sending server) smtp.comcast.net

Whether I use POP or IMAp it already says 'mail.com'.

I was able to get a Gmail account set-up pretty quickly.  The one thing though is that it does not auto update. I sent a test e-mail to my Gmail account and my phone buzzed instantly but I had to manually refresh my Nook to see the e-mail.

Checked mine after reading your post.

Sent test email. Smartphone came up right away.

Waited a few minutes for NC email to kick in.

                              Didn't.

Clicked synch botton at bottom left. Arrows spun around.

Only after I did this did the email notification appear in the status bar.

                              A little late.....

                              An obvious glitch.....

No and I spent a good part of a day trying to set up my 2 Cox email addys. I finally gave up. I also have a Motorola Xoom and was unable to set up my Cox email. I could link it to my gmail but it won't let me save, etc.

I am going to stick to using my laptop and smart phone for viewing my Cox email. Too much of a hassle on the NC.:smileysad:

I set up my email accounts with no problem.  Initially, all 4 accounts downloaded mail from the server with no problem.  But when I went to "Combined Inbox", it got hung up on "Loading messages".  Now, when I choose the mailboxes individually, sometimes they work and other times, they hang on the "Loading messages" screen.  Anyone else having this issue?

UPDATE:  In playing around with this, I discovered that if there are new emails to be downloaded, it loads them without a problem, both in the individual inboxes and in the Combined Inbox.  The hang-up appears to happen only when there are no new emails (and I'm checking the accounts before the next scheduled check by the NC).  I also noticed that on the individual inboxes for each email, if I use the sync button at the bottom of the screen, it usually stops the "Loading messages" screen, on those occasions when it doesn't stop on its own.  This doesn't seem to help on the "Combined Inbox", though.

                                          Spoke with tech support.

Had to delete email and reinstall.

At least now I can access email.

As far as the notification issue, it still doesn't work.

The tech suggested I uninstall and reinstall the update but would lose

everything. With all my stuff in addition to BN books to redo I decided in the scheme of things

the notification is a non-issue and will just hit refresh.

What was really important was to regain my email access.

I misspelled my user name (or changed password, not sure which) and email no longer works. I would like to delete the app and re-install, but don't know how. Could you instruct me?

                                              Thanks,

Kibblesnbits said to email if anyone needed help setting up their email w/ road runner. Can you please help. I have an acct., but I tried to set it up letting nook do it, it sent me to manual in the 2nd screen, and no matter what I check in the boxes, it won't accept my rr acct. Any help (especially not too technical) would be great!! Thanks

I have successfully set up outgoing server and sent a test message, so know I have the email address and smtp-server.roadrunner.com settings correct. But I keep getting the same error message about inability to connect with server for the incoming pop-server.roadrunner.com settings. (This problem occurs with either the 110 setting checked, or not.) Help most welcome!

The outbound ports on devices is almost always different than the PC settings. Google android email settings for your email provider - ie. android email settings for roadrunner or go to your providers website and you will find the correct port settings. Outbound ports on portable devices are different because email providers need a way to verify mail sent thru them is valid.

Sometimes you can't just make the setting changes and have it work, you have to delete the current account and start again.

                                                                        • If your mail server requires the short username (and does not work with the full email address) you will not be able to retrieve email after the initial email account setup

                                                                        What happens:

                                                                        • During the initial email account setup, the NC email client allows you to enter the username as the short name without the suffix when configuring the Incoming mail server settings
                                                                        • After the setup is completed and saved, that short username gets changed to the full email address (this is the bug part 1)
                                                                        • Going back into the Incoming Server setup, you are not allowed to modify the username (this is the bug part 2), so from that point on, you no longer can retrieve email

I use addr.com for my email accounts and they do not allow full email addresses when authenticating, so the NC Mail App is useless to me until the bug mentioned above is fixed.

In the meantime, can anyone recommend a better email App for the NC?

                                                                    • Re: EMAIL ISSUES

Prior to the latest version OS upgrade V1.2.0 nookC (w/WIFI only) Email configures and worked A-OK.

Just recently I had to change my PW on a Yahoo account.

When I went to update the nC Email Account it is constantly flagging an error message that my Yahoo account either has a bad user name or PW. It is not true as my Yahoo account works well on multiple PC's and even my Droid-X.

There appears to be a bug-problem with the new V1.2.0 email configure tool that prohibits users to make changes.

FYI, here is the kicker I have another Yahoo email account (Y1) setup in the nC... It works A-OK. When I went to see how Y1 was configured to duplicate via manual configure for the PW Y account... The nC when attempting to access my Y1 account via configure stated it too has a user name or PW problem blocking access. I backed out of configure... then checked Y1 using the normal nC email refresh and it still works fine.

So using a lil logic there is a bug in the nC V1.2.0 email setup/configure sub-program.

How do we get this to nC so they can fix (V1.2.1)? Or how do I go back to the last version so I can input my email info and then reinstall V1.2.0? Or is nC not that flexible in going back one version if you find the newest version to buggy/prohibitive?

I was on a cruise recently, and my NC kept giving me the info"Unable to open connection with server" , when the bars at the bottom told full power, ie. 3 bars, and the ship had full bars, and the NC said it was connected to the ship. This has also happened here at home with the Nook sitting beside my computer, right where the connection comes in. I do hope someone will come up with an answer. I have phoned customer service many times and talked to many different people, and none of them could help at all.

One possibilty comes to mind since I've been through this at airport wifi situations as well. When you see a solid wifi signal but have no access to email, you may want to open your browser. At least for me at airports and maybe some hotels, etc., you first need to open a browser and will have to accept the wifi source's agreement (i.e., this is an open network--avoid sending or receiving sensitive data, passwords, etc.--we take no responsibility for your use of this network, etc.) before you can browse the web, check email, stream Pandora, etc. This doesn't apply if your issues also occur on your home network but is worth checking on public wifi sites, possibly including the cruise ship.

                                                                                • Re: EMAIL ISSUES

On the ship they give you a code, and I used it . It worked for all the iPads, Netbooks etc. ,but didnt work on my Nook. Here at home it has no reason to want anything like that.

It does receive messages, albeit with a long , sometimes a day,  delay.

Another question I cant solve : Can one write emails on the NC and save them to send when it gets a good signal on it? I cant find anywhere to do this. "Draft" doesnt show when you are writing an email. It sure would prevent a lot of grief.  Of course this wont help much, unless my NC learns to "send". I keep wondering if there is something needing to be checked somewhere?

I participated in two chat conversations and were told to erease and reregister. I refused and instead deleted my gmail account from the nookcolr and than reinstalled it. WORKS GREAT!
