Spend the extra money and get an IPAD

Just about 40 days after the warranty expired my sons Nook HD+ dies.  I was told had bought an extended warranty......

It looks like many people had the same problem.

What I should have done was gone with a better product that would actually last a couple years.

And you know this because you bought both a kindle and an ipad in addition to your nook, or because you just like to go recommending products you've never owned because you like to make assumptions?

I own 1 IPAD which is probably 2+ years old and I own a Kindle Fire which is still under a year old.  So yes I have a frame of reference.  I wish I researched a little more thats all.  I hope no one else loses their NOOK as quickly as my son did.  We will be investing in something different going forward.  As a suggestion to those looking into the NOOK, get the extended warranty.

My condolences on the loss of your HD+. And while I would certainly want anything I purchased to last longer than 2 years, 2 years on what is basically considered a disposable product these days isn't all bad.

If you weren't satisfied with your Nook, you probably should have paid two or three times as much for an iPad.  My iPad 2 is still running fabulously after all this time.  Then again, my Nook is doing well after 15 months.

One Nook 1st edition, three Nook Colors, and one HD+ in our house.  My son's Nook Color was purchased as a refurb.  11 months after he got it the battery wouldn't hold a charge for long.  Thankfully B&N replaced it.  The replacement is going strong two years later, as are all the other Nooks in the house.

iPads are quality devices but not without their issues too.  I deal with about 30 of them on a regular basis at work and have not been very impressed for the $ invested in purchasing them.  People assume the iPad is in a league of its own.  It isn't.  There are other high quality tablets, so I don't know why people act as though everything not made by Apple is beneath the iPad.

My wife got a Surface tablet several months ago, and I have been very surprised by it, to be honest.  Those things can honestly fully replace any need for a computer for a large percent of people.  Hands down a better tablet than the iPad.

Still, I love taking my $150 Nook HD+ to work trainings and meetings and sitting with all these people and their expensive iPads.  They kid me about my Nook, and I know the Nook is not a superior device, but it does for me the same thing their iPads do for them ...for much much less money.
