    Options For Users With Disabilities

    3dpaper

Question...  I recently purchased a Nook HD+ for my 11 year old son.  He was born with Down Syndrome, and he has autism.  Mentally he is about 3.  I have been able to set up a profile specifically for him, and have it as locked down as possible.  From the home page, and the few scrolling pages that make up the "home" page, I have been able to easily set up the direct links to any media (books, apps, etc) purchased through the B&N store (not sure yet about items from Google Play).  He is not capable, at least currently, of browsing around through a library to find items.  So, what I need to figure out is how to set up direct links from the home page to side loaded content, either directly on the device, or on an installed 32GB SD card.  From what I have seen so far, it does not look like there is a direct way of linking to non B&N content (books and videos).  Am I correct in this, or is there a way to do this?  If there is no easy way to do this, is there an easy way to set up an app or widget that could be launched from the home page, which could be easily copied and renamed, that all it does is link to a somehow defined book or video?  Hopefully it makes sense as to what I am trying to accomplish.

You can add books to the home page. Go to the library, my files, find the sideloaded book you want to add. Do a long press on the book; you "should" get a popup menu with an option to "Add to Home."

If covers are important to help him distinguish things, get calibre (freeware) and put it on your pc. Import your book. Add your cover. Then get the calibre companion on the HD. Add the book to the HD thru calibre companion. Use that version on the book to add it to the home page.

Dont know nothin about movies (sorry)

You can use the carousel on the home page to access preselected movies from the B&N libraruy and sideloaded books. Just click on movies and books under your home settings, then open up to 25 movies or sideloaded books you want him to have easy access to.

This won't work for sideloaded movies though.

I had removed the carousel from the home page as it only holds 25 items (I have more items than that to add), and I was concerned that it potentially would be too easy to select an item than what was really wanted.  Any other possible suggestions?

For sideloaded movies, you could download the movie gallery app by DVD Catalyst from B&N and put the app on the home page. This app allows you to assign movie covers to each sideloaded movie within the app (several cover options are availabe for most movies). The movie covers can be set to a large image, with easy scrolling from right to left.
