Hi there, I was trying to conect to my work wifi and it just hangs there and times out. I looked on the internet and saw that others have had the same issue, they said it had something to do with it being secured with WEP? I have the password right, I checked with our IT person and he said he didn't understand why it wouldn't connect.
Can you help me out here?
You have to have the correct passphrase and protocol. If they are using 802.11n for their protocol, unless they drop the speed to 54mbps max, the NC won't connect.
Have you gone through the setup with your IT person? Where he/she can watch what you do and what the results are?
WEP is the security type and does not effect the connection I am using WEP on mine and have never had a problem.
The problems you are seeing here are related to a few routers and cable modems. Your connection at work should not be that difficult for your IT person to help you with - providing it is not one of the routers with known issues.
I have a wireless network I support at work and I connect fine with my Nook and other coworkers connect fine also with Kindles and phones.
Find out what brand and model router you are trying to connect to.
Don, yes i went over this with the IT guy, however he cant slow down the speed for me since it isn't a work device I am using. I had to go to the B&N store last night, after rebooting it we were able to get on the web and reqister it. It does keep powing down though on it's own?? Is it possible to connect to my pc and download books that way?
It should not power down on it's own, but it does go to sleep on it's own - then you wake it up by taping the N button - is that what you are seeing?
You can sideload your books from your PC but you can also use any WIFI hotspot like at McDonalds, Panera, B&N or a million other places. It only takes seconds to download a book to the nook so what you can do is purchase the ones you want on the B&N website and just stop by anyplace with free WIFI, connect and go to your Library and click the sync button.
