I'm Ready to get flamed, but......

I'm tired of all the complaining about how this device isn't up to snuff b/c of the lack of apps.   This is no secret, and there are many competitors out there which have full access to the marketplace.  This devicewas designed a certain way, to do certain things, and not do do other things.  If you do not like it, you may purchase a generic tab and use the BN app.   I'm happy with this tablet, because researched these forums, and I knew what it was all about before I chose it.

That is my stand.  Ok people you may start flaming.......

Answering you is not a "flame". Pointing out concerns is not a "flame". Speaking out is not a "flame".

              Welcome to the Internet.

The only thing I would flame you for (which I won't because I am not a flamer) is starting yet another thread where both sides can snipe at each other about the update, closed architecture, color of the device, etc. (ok I am kidding about the color of the device), which will lead to more "I'm tired of..." comments.

                  Glad you like the device.

Why would you be flamed? Anyone will recognize you for what you are, another B&N Troll. We all know not to feed the trolls.

My new years resolution was not to start or respond to any more of the sideloading threads. Drat blew it already.

I happen to agree think its a good tablet. I knew what I was getting when I bought it, its billed as a readers tablet. It can do that , some e-mail and some web surfing but I did not think this was an ipad, it has some games , for me that's all I wanted. If you don't like it move on but don't keep hyping on it was an open tablet & now its closed. Companies like Apple , Amazon & BN make money selling content & IMO that's what will keep these companies in business. If you just want a android open device from a company that sells nothing but the device fine but you can't blame BN for what essentially for closing a hole they never intended to be there. You buy from the company because you believe in them long term not just to get a device and hack it to death, sorry just my opinion...

What people are forgetting in this whole discussion is that (if I understand the posts and articles correctly) side-loading apps was never a visible, out of the box feature.  "Things" had to be done to force the door open, so to speak.  It may not have been as complex as rooting, but (again, if I understand it correctly) most people would not have uncovered it without certain "techie" people figuring it out first and documenting it.  Also, from what I read, you had to do more "things" to make the side-loaded apps visible once they were installed.

How ever easy it may have been to do, enabling side-loading of apps was outside of the design and programming of the device.  From B&N's perspective, this was a bug.  B&N stated in interviews that it was a bug and gave every indication that they were going to try and plug that hole.

I am not saying it was a good or bad idea for them to do so.  I don't care one way or another if people side-load apps.  I just think all of the "surprise" that B&N did it is disengenuous and melodramatic.  People say they did research and bought the device knowing they could side-load apps, and now B&N took it away.  But, if they did research it, they should have known all along that, in all probability, B&N was goining to do what they did.

As someone else pointed out.  Why rant and rail?  You will not change B&N's mind.  The device is already being rooted, and in the weeks ahead it will probably become even easier to do so, and the process will be documented.  With the NC, you may have been able to root it, but B&N was never going to give you root access directly.  If there had been a "switch" that was overlooked that allowed you to easily turn on root access, you can bet they would have shut that down too.  Even the locked boot loader issue is being reported as being able to get around soon.  Everyone, on both sides of the issue, should just take a deep breath and relax.

The Nook Color had been left wide open for a year with apparently no sign at all from B&N that they had any desire to close the 'hole' as you put it. In fact, I would argue that B&N benefited greatly from the reputation that the NC built up in the modding community - who did an enormous amount to boost the popularity of the tablet.

There was absolutely no reason to believe that B&N would change the 'rules' of the game after the game had started.

If anyone was disingenuous it was B&N.

And the floridaphil campaign continues, create a bogus rationale why, almost completely without common sense or merit, but hey it works for politicians all the time, if you repeat it often enough maybe BN wil cave, not.

Just because a train of reasoning doesn't resonate with you doesn't automatically mean it's bogus. It simply means you see the situation differently.

Ahhh, Saul Alinsky's Rule's For Radicals tactics rears its ugly head:-

Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.

I responded to a point someone else made. Why don't you pick a hole in my argument rather than attacking the messenger.  What did I say that was incorrect?

I stand by what I said. This is an obvious attempt to pressure BN by repeating you were wronged when sideloading was blocked. Even though the argument is without merit. I and many others have pointed the lack of merit in that position. It is clear that by dominating these forums the real goal is to push BN to change their position. Posters such as bobsus earlier today offer reaoned arguments supporting sideloading. What you are doing is dishonest. Your only real accomplishment has been to alienate many of us sympathetic to the desire for sideloading or who feel BN should allow it as a no harm no foul customer benefit.

Exactly my point, you say I attacked you, but what choice is there when you continue to hold to a position you must know is basically without merit. Sideloading non BN apps was never supported, advertised. In fact they made it clear this was not intended and their would be a response. You ignore these facts, perpetuate an argument that because there was a loophole making it possible you are owed it. I even quoted the rhetorical fallcies this position relied on in a different thread. Calling a loophole a feature, requires intent and support to be reasonable. The second is to take an admitted error and extend that to an obligation to enable and continue that error. Of course, I don't believe it was you, evidently looked up the fallacies on wikpedia and applied the definition incorrectly. So yes I am questioning your motives and integrity in how you support your position. You totally distort things to support your desire for sideloading and then reject objections to your actions as a personal attack. It is you act like a two year old, you took away my toy received in error and I want it back. So yes I have had it with you, adam and others and will express my belief that what you are doing is dishonest.
