The last couple of Thursdays there have been updates and a few new apps.

I had two app updates today, but no sign of any new apps.

Most likely it will be tomorrow....let's hope for some good stuff.

I am used to seeing the new apps on Thursdays, early to midday.  This time I didn't see any until Friday.  From what I can tell, I didn't really miss anything.  I think I understand part of the problem now.  Take a look here:

            https://jobs-bn.icims.com/jobs/search?ss=1&searchLocation=&searchCategory=&hashed=0

BN obviously doesn't have the staff needed to bring us the apps we are looking for and instead we get what we have seen.  I don't mind the apps for kids.  Heck, I don't mind the books acting like apps.  I just want some of the other (what I like to call standard) apps.  My app need is fairly basic and the apps for Google services, Mint.com, Facebook, and such have been around for a while.  There is no reason I can think of that they shouldn't be on the NT.  Or is it the lack of camera and location awareness that prohibits these apps?

And this deal of releasing every Thursday/Friday has got to stop.  Look at the Valentine wallpaper app in this latest update.  What do you think the odds are that the developer had this to BN before 2/14?  Yet, it isn't released until 2/16 and doesn't show up in the store until 2/17.

By the way, the NT shop doesn't update quickly enough.  If you want the most recent updates then go to the main website and search that way.

                All Valid concerns.

And I suppose they will learn. Meanwhile, Nook did get Big Fish Games, and Amazon did not....yet.

For those of you who dont know, thats BIG news, so support their apps.

If you want to know who they are, take a look at iTunes. Gameloft is another big guy, yet they stopped before Christmas, so did EA.

You dont want games, i see, from your list, but...these are the big guys that can make a whole store :smileywink:

This has so much less to do with app development and so much more to do with BN tripling the size of their PA NOOK offices to increase development turnaround.

More importantly, BN doesn't write these apps. The app developers do. And any smart app developer is going to try to get their apps onto any platform where there is a market. But you have to remember that developers might not know that there is a market in the NOOK app store.* Send them an email. All it takes is five minutes letting the developer of the app know that there are customer who want their product. It's the same way I got my local Target to carry my favorite Ben & Jerry's flavor. :smileyhappy: BN tries to evangelize to as many app developers as possible, but the simple fact is that nudges from paying customers tend to have more of an effect than a marketing sales pitch.

Now there are some exceptions. Google's "official" apps have almost no chance of showing up in the BN store, because Google tends to refuse access to their apps unless you licence (read: pay Google) to get Android Market access. But by and large you have the power to get these apps into the store if you're willing to put a modicum of effort in.

*Part of this is definitely BN's fault. The way the NOOK Color's app store was originally structured didn't help matters at all, and BN's typical lack of marketing acumen certinaly didn't make things any better. BN should have been screaming the NOOK Color's sales numbers at the top of their lungs, because saying "hey we've got a market of a few million people who want to buy your stuff!" is pretty effective at getting developers to take notice. It might help now that the NOOK Tablet is getting sales estimates with other "full" tablets from analysts like iSupply, and kicking to every "full" Android tablet vendor outside of Samsung, but BN has definitely been too close-mouthed.**
