    nook color

Dont waste your time on the Nook Color!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have had mine for a week now & have already had to call technical support twice (in one day) because of my nook not working right. First off the credit card i have on my b&n account would not work to purchase books for my nook, i went through a hard reset w/ assistance & finally was able to buy my first ebook. Next i went into the settings to change them from the factory settings & what do you know it WILL NOT take my password, so i tried random words & numbers and it still will not acccept any of them. It also has an ulgy habbit of turning off & restarting when your in the middle of shopping. My husband bought this for me for christmas & is very upset with this product. I am asking for a full refund including the book i purchased. I guess i will be buying all my books from amazon for now on. :smileysad:

You're trying to shop on your nookcolor? Sounds like you got  abad unit HOWEVER that's still no reason to come here declaring it's no good.

There are plenty of people who have them and love them, myself included. Did I have any issues with it? Yes and it was resolved.

I don't know what all your problems are because I am not there, but maybe you should alow down and try using it again.

Why wouldn't your cc work? What was the reason?

You don't have to change anything from factory settings once you register it. Only time you go to factory settings is when you are restoring to that.

Sounds a little like user error.

It is not user error I have been on the phone with technical support all day. You have to go into the settings to change certain things (for example the time) & I want the password on to confirm orders first. Thanks for your comment but im still not wasting my time with this any longer.

Well, I certainly haven't wasted my time-I love mine.

There does seem to be the possibility for user error here or something else.  Did you purchase the ebook from shop on the NOOKcolor?  Also, of course random words and numbers won't work-I believe it wants your BN password when you select that as required for purchases.  If you set a password also for opening up the device, it is not that password unless you made them the same.

Have you let it fully charge?  I'm not exactly sure you mean that it turns off, perhaps the screen locks up(goes to sleep) while you are shopping-this is to save the battery.  If the screen is inactive (you haven't touched it in awhile), it sleeps.  You can change this in settings or if you don't want to change it, make sure to touch the screen to keep it awake.

Often times the reason credit cards won't work at first is because of an error or omission on the part of the purchaser.  For ebook buying you must have a credit card on file with a valid US address attached to it.  Even though you will not be having ebooks delivered to your home, you should also enter a shipping address onto the BN site.  Also, there may be issues if you don't enter your name exactly as it is on the card, and then sometimes there are reasons CC companies deny purchases, especially if it seems strange or is out of the ordinary for you.  There is even a new trick out there where hackers of CCs will place very small purchases on stolen CC numbers to verify that using them will work and to make sure the CC holder isn't paying attention.  Then they go on to make larger purchases.  CC companies are sometimes using draconian steps to avoid false charges, even for small amounts.

If it's broken and you do like it, try exchanging it.  If it's broken and you don't like it, return it and go on to whatever awaits you.  But if it is user error then maybe learn how to use it, because the kindle is a much different device than the NOOKcolor..

If you like the device, exchange it and try again.  It sounds like a bad unit.  It happens. Make sure you register the device and set the correct time and location again with the next one. Then shop.  You should not have to provide your CC information during registration or purchasing on the device since it’s stored on BN website and linked to your user id and login during the registration process.

Are you using the password shop settings on the unit?  Settings/App Settings/Shop. “ Require Password to Shop for any purchase”.  I haven’t used it and don’t know if you are prompted for CC info as well as the password.  Might be some matching issues involved there.

I swore I wasn’t going to buy a NookColor for a few months just to see how the bugs shook out. I had one on preorder and cancelled it.  My resolve broke and I bought one after playing with it at BN. However, my first NC from B&N (bricks and mortar) had a defective USB connector, so it was returned.  I did not exchange it.  It does seem to be an ongoing issue here.  I waited a week and did some warranty info checking, then went to Best Buy and bought one that has worked great so far.  I got a better warranty from BB so I won’t get refurbished units that you get with BN.  Now I’m waiting for Adobe to fix my authorization issues with the color….

In all fairness, I probably have sounded like a troll a few times with some of my rants here about the nook classic and the pitfalls of the first four refurbished units. The 1.5 update corrected the majority of the software problems of the fifth nook and all is well (crossing fingers for bezel).

It’s too easy to call it User Error, and call someone a troll.  Being a first time ranty poster doesn’t = Troll Status.  Granted it’s not a good way to get help or make friends.  Frustration kicks in.  Time is an issue with new units.  Your only have 14 days to return it at a BN store, and you might spend half that time looking for solutions that might not exist.  BN Tech Support doesn’t always fix things.  Searching for solutions here or other places gets tiresome.  Yes, honey, flies, etc… There is a lot lost in translation on the internet.

Hang in there.  I’d give it another go with a different unit before you give up on the NC.  If anything, try the nook classic before you jump on the Kindle wagon. You can’t compare a NookColor to a Kindle. Two different animals.  Compare the nook classic to the Kindle3. The nook classic 1.5 update surpassed the Kindle in library management. I have a Kindle3 and it’s meh.

Good luck with whichever ereader you go with.

She tried random words and numbers for the password and it still didn't work? What kind of product is B&N trying to sell us here...???
