    Questions about NST registration

So I finally dove in and bought my first nook, nook 1st gen, after being hesitant on ereaders. Me being the cheap ass I am, i got a really nice cheap N1stG on craigslist. Big mistake. I had the same issue many other people had where you're not able to register to your account

( just like this person http://bookclubs.barnesandnoble.com/t5/NOOK-First-Edition-Technical/Nook-First-Gen-can-t-de-register/td-p/1342666)

So i finally bought a new NST on black friday for 60% off ( i was thrilled) new. was able to register and what not and im in love with it

my question is, i want to get one for my friend for xmas but dont have a lot of money to get a new one full price (only had enough to get one during Black Friday). With out making the mistake of finding out i can't register a bn account, is there a way to make sure that a NST can be registered if i get one on craigslist again, nst not 1st gen.

i saw in the settings an 'erase and deregister' option. might try it out on my nst but was curious if you do use that option, will it successfully deregister so you can use a different bn account?

just making sure because my friend really wants one but want her to have access to the store of course

      thank you so much! :smileyhappy:

The issue is that the NOOK must be de-registered by the current owner before selling it.

Just doing a factory reset will not remove the NOOKs registration from the B&N servers.

In some cases getting a previously registered NOOK is an oversight on the part of the seller. They just don;t realize that they have to unregister before doing a factory reset before selling or giving their NOOK to a new owner.

The best thing to do if you are going to insist on buying from someplace like craigs list is to talk to the seller and make sure they have unregistered the device (not just reset it).

Of course this doesn't cover you in the rare case of someone selling a lost or stolen NOOK who will tell you theyde-registered  butalltheydidwasareset.
