Using my NC a little more heavily now and finding out:

          (1) Was able to successfully download both a library book using Adobe Digital Editions, and an Audiobook using Overdrive.  Overdrive for Mac, however, does not recognize the NC; I had to move the file myself into the music folder on the NC.  But that's an Overdrive issue.  Now I understand what everyone means about side-loaded books not showing up in the library.  I'd like to see those and audiobooks and be able to organize them on my shelves as well.

          (2) Swiping the status bar to go "back" while in an ebook dumps me out into the library.  I frequently jump around in non-fiction (such as to various chapters and verses in the Bible when studying), and I would like that "back" swipe to take me back to my last place instead of completely exiting the book.

I'm having deja vu on #2, so please excuse me if I've already posted it. :smileyhappy:

I'm not sure what you mean. Sideloaded books (including library books) do show up in the library and you can place them on shelves. Books need to placed in the 'Books" folder. You can't place sideloaded books on the homescreen (press the "n" button).

I"m sure this has been pummelled unmercifully but let me add my request to be able to place any content I want on my home screen.........

I've had the Nook Color for a day and really like it, but I'd really like to put MY books on the home page...

I don't really mean anything by this but how about hiring some of the creative people on the NookDevs trail.  They seem to stretch the imagination and creativity further to what is desired by the common folk. I guess they cut the corporate politics and egos out and get to the point.  If you could team up with Google and get the Froyo software then the world is at your door.  Move your NookStudy to the NookColor and then it is the #1 substitute for not forking money to Apple pablum.

                Just my humble thoughts......

A few of the things I'd love to see.

                  • A nice PIM/Calendar App.
                  • A better video player.
                  • Netflix Video Player App (My wife gets a ton of use out of this on her Ipod Touch)
                  • Angry Birds?
                  • Ability to load Android Apps
                  • Better File Management (Maybe it is just me, but I couldn't seem to delete files without hooking it up to a PC in "My Downloads")

Since work pays for my cell phone, I can justify getting a smart phone of some kind. So I'd like a nice PIM so I can drop my old PDA.

I would like to have the ability to see search results the same way as the Kindle does. In case you have not used a Kindle, the book search results show as one long list with the text surrounding the searched term displayed as well with the ability to jump directly to any of the entries and then quickly back (using the back key). Once you use this kind of search it is very hard to use the search that the NOOKColor provides.

Have the ability to turn off page turning by tapping. So many times I flipped page(s) by mistake by just keeping my finger very close to the screen. It would be helpful to be able to turn off this way of turning pages and leave only the turning by swiping option.

I've been looking at the Nook Color to replace a PDA I've been using as an ebook reader for several years.  One thing I have on the PDA that I would really like to see on the Nook Color is an app for audiobooks from www.audible.com.

I read voraciously and do audiobooks on a long drive.  I would really miss having my audiobooks available.

                          SCIONTX,

                          >>I'm not sure what you mean. Sideloaded books (including library books) do show up in the library and you can place them on shelves. I used Adobe Digital Editions to download the book from my library and transfer it to my Nook color.  ADE created its own folder, "Digital Editions", at the top level (outside "my files"); it has subfolders for "annotations" and "thumbnails".  The book in the ADE folder shows up in files, but not the library.

I moved the epub file to the "books" folder as you said, and it did show up in the library.  Seems like an extra step if I'm using ADE, though.  I haven't explored it yet to see if moving it will mess up links to the "annotations" subfolder in the ADE folder.

Also, I never had the issue of covers showing up in my image gallery until the first time I downloaded a library book.  Now all the covers have popped up in the gallery!

Sorry, I cannot figure out how to quote in this forum.  Can anyone please enlighten me?  Thanks.

Just want to add that you don't have to physically move the library book to the "Books" folder as you mentioned. Like you said, the book is placed in the ADE folder, but all you have to do is press and hold on the book cover/image and choose "Add to Shelf'. I have a "Library Books" shelf that I add my library books to.

My NC is my first eReader, so I don't have anything to compare it to as far as past experience.  What I do have, however, is a device that goes just about anywhere that I go.

What I'd like to see added to NC functionality (which would remove the words, "just about," from my previous sentence):

-A calendar application or scheduler/planner.  I know it's not a tablet PC, but every morning I come into work and set it down next to my DayTimer, and even though they've got a similar footprint, the NC is slimmer, more portable, and I don't have to keep adding pages to it.

-A journal application.  Admittedly, I would use it to keep notes about work, but readers are often journalers.

-eTextbooks or support for NOOKStudy.  I'm returning to school after nearly two decades in the work force, and continuing to work full-time and raise a family.  Anything that can save me time (like studying while waiting for a meeting to start or at the doctor's office) would be a godsend.

-Flash support.  This kinda ties into my eText/Study request because a lot of textbook publishers have supplemental material on their websites that relies on Flash.

Better dictionary.  The Kindle dictionary seems to be better.

                                  • 149. Re: What users want in the NOOKcolor 1.1 update

Having read all the flaming going on against people who want more functionality:

If all you wanted was an ereader, there are lots out there that do nothing but read ebooks. And, frankly, for reading, the ink technology is much better for you anyway. Less srain on the eyes. That being said...

I am a gadget junkie. I have to carry a giant purse to hold all my techie stuff. Having to tote around my reader AND a netbook, the thing weighs a TON.

Take a look at the Pandigital Novel7. The NookColor needs that kind of functionality, plus the apps store. I'd go with the Novel, except it weighs a ton and it doesn't USB charge either, but at least they put the charging port on the side instead of the bottom. Look at it this way - if you have more tablet features, you can charge more and it will still be less than the RottenApple iPad.

                                    We need:

                                    Email access

Notes - a previous poster is right, readers are often journalists too

                                    App Market

USB charging - come out of the stone age and into the light...

Calendar sync with alerts (if you are a reader, sometimes we get lost...)

Landscape reading of books - if Pandigital can get it, why can't BN? But make sure to retain the ability to turn it off (this is why I don't read books on my iphone, it is SOOOO annoying).

Has anyone else noticed that the screen is less responsive when the charging cord is plugged in? If so, please fix that. As it stands, when my battery is low, I can't read anymore - the cord is in the way and it itakes 3-4 tries before a page will turn.

Battery % indicator instead of a graphic would be great at the bottom of the screen.

                                    Pinch to zoom. Definitely.

When reading, an option to turn off the auto-popup of the keyboard. Way too sensitive as it is, but I don't want to change that for the folks who like it, just the option to turn it off, then an entry on the quick settings to turn it back on.

More quick settings, like font and background

Themes would be nice, but not a necessity.

Now, I don't know if this next one is even possible. It's not something that bothers me, but I know people that it DOES bother - the eyestrain thing. It's the reason the ink technology was invented in the first place. Is it possible to get a setting for font and color that would more closely imitate this?

                                    M
