        Science, Religion & Spirituality

        eBook and Printed Edition

Science, Religion & Spirituality arrives at a time when youth is returning to a kind of religion where spirituality is on the rise. There is no longer value in articles with titles such as “Is God Dead?” Today we are using science to complement our spirituality. This new notion prompted the writing of this book that combines Eastern religious traditions and Western scientific knowledge to develop practical spirituality. This guide teaches how to observe the mind, to live in gratitude, and to discard expectations. The benefits of focusing on our spiritual-self include tranquility, increased production, a resurgence of vitality, mental clarity and joy of living. There is even a test to know your spirituality level. This book is not about creating a new religion, sect or movement, but in fact is about loving every religion.

There are books on god and religion, and on spirituality. But this is one book that presents reconciliation between science and god/religion. A rare blend that brings science and spirituality together which are generally treated as oil and water. "Science, Religion & Spirituality" (Similar to Human Genome leader Collin's belief) explains that Science and God can co-exist.

Truth cannot contradict itself. Truth from science and truth from God/Religion must eventually converge into one grand whole, a unified knowledge of the laws that govern our universe. Those who fight over superiority of one over the other are blinded by ignorance about both.

In the past, East has lived religiously-- that is one pole-- and because it has lived religiously it has not been able to produce good science. The West has lived scientifically, and because of its science it has lost track of spirituality. Now for the first time in this space age and internet: the earth is becoming one global village. This is the time when the reconciliation between science and religion can be seen, can be understood.

The author has an advanced degree in life sciences and molecular biology from the West, and a fascination with yoga, breathing, religion, and spirituality from the East, crafted out of studies at Yale University, U.S.A., and Punjab University, India. Therefore, he presents quite successfully: Eastern and Western synthesis of science, religion, and spirituality.

The book consists of nine chapters and each chapter starts with an appropriate quote by some famous spiritualist, divine personality, prophet, philosopher or by the author itself: Chapter 1, The Power of Spirituality; Chapter 2, Religious Practices and New Consciousness; Chapter 3, The Universal Divine Mind; Chapter 4, A Free Mind; Chapter 5, Spiritual Living I; Chapter 6, Spiritual Living II; Chapter 7, God and Spirit; Chapter 8, Evil–The Absence of Goodness; Chapter 9, Full Living. The chapters precede by ‘A Word’ of introduction, and are followed by ‘Test of Your spirituality Level,’ and References.

The book introduction starts with a popular quote by Albert Einstein: “Religion without science is blind. Science without religion is lame” However, Dr. Dhillon goes even further to prove reconciliation between science and religion.

There are 3 chapters that describe: How concept of god and spirituality help us coping with stress. These describe virtues such as surrender, forgiveness, prayer, positive thinking, and control over mind. There is information about relieving fear of death and disease, and creating a state of mind without fear. Concept of soul and reincarnation, evil, hell, and heaven are explained from both scientific and religious point of view. There is another chapter on: How our attitude and actions are related to pain and pleasure, love, friendship, and happiness. An understanding of science, religion, and spirituality will put us on a road to love and happiness irrespective of our faith.

I, Jacob Pence, published a book several years ago called "Kids, Don't Try This at Home".  It can be be purchased at the Barnes and Noble store in Harrisonburg, VA, or Barnes and Noble.com, Amazon.com or as an e-book.  I have always had unusual experiences throughout my lifetime and have always been told I should write a book.  Finally, I got around to it.  My wife always tells me that I put the Pro in procrastinator. My book is about some of the funny experiences I have had through the years, starting from about five years of age up until a few years ago.  My book can be found under humour and I make people this offer:  if you don't laugh, you can get your money back.  I made one women wet her pants from laughing so hard and even big he-men have laughed so hard they cried. Men love the chapter where I tell about what should have been an excellent date night except I ate way too much chili earlier in the day.  You can figure out what happened.  I tell about a show and tell at elementary school that almost got me expelled.  I am a retired funeral director and I have devoted one entire chapter to my work experiences.  That chapter is called "We Put the Fun Back in Funeral".  There is also one chapter on my rat year experiences at VMI.  I had a lot of fun working on my book and have received lots of favorable comments on it.

            Timothy Phillips: A Christian Novel

This is a parallel novel to Times of Trouble and Times of Trial.

Can a nineteen year old stay true to the faith he was brought up on when he's under the spotlight?

Timothy Phillips dreams come true when he's discovered by the producer of a national talent show. So what's the problem? The recording contract is not in the Southern Gospel he would prefer to sing. As he begins recording and performing the music, he encounters increasing hostility towards Christians. Can he stay true to his faith, or will he end up compromising his beliefs little by little the more famous he becomes?

When his world comes crashing down, will he have anything left to help him stand as the end times approach?

My latest short ghost story is now available for the Nook!

Will’s weekend retreat at his lake cottage was interrupted by an issue from work. His intent on remedying the situation was complicated by connection and power issues. Were the problems due to the remote location or was some unknown spirit with him in the cottage?

A short story with about 3900 words.

              Thank you,

              • 244. John Everson's "48" Sale

This month, I turn 48 years old, so to celebrate, I've put three of my books on a March "48 Sale"!!! (All of the prices end in .48... isn't that clever? :-)  This pricing puts them at 40-50% off, so I hope horror and dark fantasy readers will check them out!  I don't have any control over my novels, so I can't put them in the sale... but if you enjoy short horror tales... I hope you'll check one of these books out. The stories range from extreme erotic horror to light fantasy, depending on which book you choose. See below:

CAGE OF BONES Other Deadly Obsessions, my first short fiction collection (originally issued by Delirium Books) is now on sale for $2.48.  This book focuses on dark erotic horror tales.

VIGILANTES OF LOVE, my 2nd short fiction collection (originally issued by Twilight Tales Books) is now on sale for $2.48. This book focuses on lighter fantasy and some tales of the macabre. A couple of them made the "honorable mention" list in the Year's Best Fantasy & Horror anthology series.

FAILURE, my first erotic horror novelette (originally issued by Delirium Books) is now just $1.48. This is an erotic horror tale of sex, drugs and the dark arts.

Yes, I have several books out... Although, the only one out currently on Nook is my first. I published two other books recently myself... My publisher told me he wouldn't make money on my book, but I won him over as a fan... and he published it anyways, but... The last two I did myself.  The first was all poetry, but now I'm experimenting with short stories, and a short novella.  I figure maybe eventually I can go back to him with something sellable! Not that I don't think my writing is good... The last four writers he published were Roger Zealzny, Michael Moorcock, and Harlan Ellison.... and as a sci-fi fan you can't be in better company than that, but... as a poet??!

This book is here to help you with that. Good Luck!

                      Golden State Blues

If you think something needs to be done about the way the government does things, see how two guys who met in a bar got California back on the right track and had a good time doing it.

Check out this review by NY Times bestselling author, Burt Boyar:

This marvelous book, superbly written, is the story of a man who sees his state of California and all of its God given glory being trampled on and destroyed by self-serving "public servants,” the police and teachers' unions and decides to do something about it by becoming Governor. Once in office he starts to clean house. He addresses issues such as officials of bankrupt towns paying themselves salaries in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. He fires them. When some reject his dismissal because they were voted into office he finds ways to oust them, cutting budgets he controls, etc. He empties the prisons of illegal immigrants (saving California millions) by sending them to Nevada and Colorado. He is a ruthless dream come true who literally fixes a broken state. His actions that eliminate insane spending fill the State's coffers so well that he is able to remove sales tax and state income tax. Some of the many toes he steps on reach out for help to Washington, D.C. and when the lady president of the U.S. A. cannot reach him (he won't take her many calls) she threatens to cut Federal funding, to which he is able to reply, "Keep your money, we don't need it." California is rich again. In the course of his house cleaning he confronts the Legislators in Sacramento who decide "We'll show him" and leave town and their responsibilities. In the absence of a legislature he is able to assume powers to further clean the mess and crookery. This is not a book for supporters of illegal immigrants and other darlings of the liberal Left. Hopefully it will be an inspiration to some politician who will see that it can be done, that The United States of America can be raised from the dust.

The ending broke my heart, when the Legislators, hungry for their lost power, reconvene, vote for impeachment and are supported by the liberal Left voters and this brilliant man is removed from office. In his absence they begin to re-instate all of the destructive, unaffordable policies he had abolished and by which he had saved the State.

Sadly, the author who writes and thinks brilliantly, is a realist and understands the inevitable. I strongly recommend this book to everyone, Conservatives who'll say "Yeah!!!" and Liberals who might become influenced by the other side of the aisle's thinking. That is, if they are truly liberal.

                      This is a great book.

The writing of my first novel began in a Barnes & Noble writing group at the former B&N Diversey store in Chicago. When the group broke up a year later, one of the members offered to type up my manuscript on her computer so she could hear the end of my story--which I hadn't yet written. We met almost weekly until the first draft was done.
