If there is a store nearby just drop by with the device and explain the situation.
Most stores will work out something if you are exchanging the device. What they don't like doing is returning cash for a product without a receipt.
The personnel at a call center will read back to you the official policy which is the extent of their authority.

I have the tablet and my daughter wanted one and has been saving her money to purchase on her own. I looked at the chart that compares the different Nook models, but am still uncertain of the major diffefences between the two.
Is there a way to transfer media from my table to the simple touch? Is the simple toucgh only a reader? Is there a way for her to watch videos?
The NST is an eReader only. It doesn't have apps. There would be no point to putting music or videos on it, as there is no speaker and I don't think the refresh rate on on eInk would make for a pleasurable viewing experience.
