    Nook and Blackberry Playbook?

I am wondering if there is going to be a Nook reader app for the Blackberry Playbook when it comes out later this year?  I know QNX is a new operating system but the SDK has been out for several months.

Yes, please release a Nook app for the PlayBook.  I'm getting my PlayBook in a month and want it to be the perfect companion with my e-Ink Nook.

Anyone from B&N know if an app is in the works?

          • Re: Nook and Blackberry Playbook?

Add another vote for a Nook for Playbook app.  Once I get my playbook, my wife is taking over control of our nook.

I know that the Playbook comes the Kobo reader but I would rather use Barnes and Noble for all my eBooks.

            • Re: Nook and Blackberry Playbook?

Another vote here for a Nook app for the Blackberry Playbook.  I'm getting mine soon, and absolutely need this app.

              Are you listening BN?

Will we have this app on the April 19th release date?

Ohhhh...a BlackBerry PlayBook app request thread!  I was coming here to make my own thread about this if I didn't find anything.

My PlayBook is being delivered in two days and I would LOVE an app to be able to access my B&N library.  I read primarily on my Nook classic but would use a PlayBook app too.

Is there anyone at B&N who could please let us know if this is at least something being considered?  I could post a link to this at crackberry.com if it would be helpful :smileyhappy:

                  • Re: Nook and Blackberry Playbook?

They probably would have to either take people off IOS, Android, and Windows development, hire someone, or contract out to do Playbook. Blackberry hasn't exactly been at the top of everyone's list lately.

Maybe they're waiting to see how Playbook does before making a commitment.

                    • Re: Nook and Blackberry Playbook?

Yes please, we need a nook reader for Playbook! Much appreciated.

+1 for a playbook nook app. This shouldn't be too hard. I'll beta test!

                        • Re: Nook and Blackberry Playbook?

I believe BN is the only long term alternative to Amazon.  I don't want to use Amazon because they are doing things I believe are unfair to traditional stores, such as BN.  However, every time I purchase a book using Kobo on my playbook, I wish I could be supporting BN.  I an not going to give up my playbook and would love it if you would please realease an application for it.  Thank you.

                          • Re: Nook and Blackberry Playbook?

I am totally for a Nook app for Playbook, I have always been lured by the Amazon Kindle but haven't gone over because I really love the Barnes and Noble stores in my area. I am so eager for the Nook app on my Playbook I have been delaying buying any ebooks until I can get them on mine via Nook. I just hope it's soon, the $114 price tag on the Kindle is starting to break my resolve.

Cannot BEGIN to tell you just how bad I want to see a Nook application for the PlayBook. It needs one bad! The Kobo app is total...well, crap! :smileysad:

I would love to see a Nook app for Playbook ! It would be a perfect app for this tablet (which truly is a boss gadget)

The NDK is available - check out Crackberry or Blackberry for the developer's kit.

Looking forward to seeing it soon!!!

My Nook will always be my preferred device for reading, but I'd also love to see an app for the PB.  C'mon B&N, make it easier for customers to buy more books from you by developing this.

                                    • Re: Nook and Blackberry Playbook?

I hope that B&N is paying attention!  I cannot tell you how badly I want Nook on my Playbook. Kobe is unbearable!  In the scheme of life, this is not critical, but it sure would make

                                      me-- and many others-- happy!

I hope B and N takes this seriously and SOON!

                                      • Re: Nook and Blackberry Playbook?

Add my voice to those wishing a native Nook app on the Playbook.  Like my Blackberry, my Playbook is never far from my side. Unfortunately, my Nook does not always get to come along.  Nook is my preferred e-reader platform, and it would be fantastic to be able to access my books via the larger screen of the Playbook rather than the tiny screen of my Blackberry!

                                          Me too!

I'm not happy that Kobo is my only option.

Count me in as another person who would like the Nook app for my Playbook!  I buy a ton of ebooks and up until now have given all of my business to B&N but it's looking like I'll be making the switch to Kobo very soon.  I already have to carry around my BlackBerry and my PlayBook - not going to carry a Nook around too...

                                            • Re: Nook and Blackberry Playbook?

I have nook software on my laptop and desktop as well as a nook reader.  Recently I purchased a Blackberry Playbook from RIM and was disappointed to find that nook software wasn't available for the unit yet.  I'd like to recommend that it be considered since I carry it regularly with me for work.

                                              Thanks for consideration.

I'm lobbying for a Nook app on the Playbook as well.  Please consider a port to QNX!

                                                  • Re: Nook and Blackberry Playbook?

I have called and e-mailed and called and e-mailed again. The last e-mail I received said that B&N was not going to tell me whether they were or were not going to make an app for the Playbook. It is propietary information. I think its BS. I wish someone would give us answer. IF there is no app by my vacation it looks like I am going to use KOBO and stick with it.

I just got the blackberry playbook for Christmas. I have been look for the nook app, but could not found one for the playbook. I would love to be able to use the nook app so I could use my Barnes and noble account to sync my books to one account instead of a different ereader apps. Please add a nook free reader app!!!!

                                                                      • Re: Nook and Blackberry Playbook?

I don't like Amazon's proprietary format, but BN just keeps dragging it's feet.

My Windows Mobile 6.5 phone may be on its way to kaputness, and I'll be replacing with a BlackBerry when it does (Bridge with the PlayBook is awesome). Neither BlackBerry phones nor tablet have support from B&N. :smileymad:

I love my First Edition Nook (I can't bear to give it up yet due to "feeling like a book", though I really wish we got the old "slow page turn" era font smoothing back still; I hate how fuzzy text is even now :smileysad:). But it's going to become a paperweight if that's the only place I can read my books, as I can't/won't/etc. carry it everywhere with me. :smileysurprised:

Apparently this isn't money that B&N wants. That's fine, since it seems Kobo's trying very hard to seek our business. I might well have to go play with their bookstore a bit. :smileywink:

A quick look shows that B&N is using "native" code on Android. That, of course, won't run on the Playbook due to running a different operating system. That being said, if they've got an AIR version somewhere, THAT would be a quickish port to the PlayBook...)

                                                                          • Re: Nook and Blackberry Playbook?

B&N isn't listening, of course. I'm currently working with Kobo to figure out how to get my existing B&N library into their app. Their support is less "we want to be extremely helpful!" than B&N, and is not as familiar with their own products. However, they are committed to helping their customers on any device they have, which is more than I can say about B&N. (B&N never bothered putting their Windows Mobile version up on their site, they silently killed the BlackBerry phone version, their Android app is a totally different product from their devices [you'd think they'd make the Android version suck less so that it'd make people want to buy nook hardware], and so on. Not very "we want you to buy and read our books EVERYWHERE!" is it?)

B&N isn't winning any brownie points with me, basically. They killed the First Edition without bringing out a "book-sized" e-ink reader to replace it, and they aren't likely to bring out a firmware update to fix any of the remaining annoying bugs on it. They kill their reader apps left and right. They aren't at all willing to help us read our books on what has slid into the #1 selling tablet at both of Canada's major retail chains, and is starting to get noticed as a good competitor to the entrenched players in the US. It makes me wonder why any of us are spending money on books from them. We're locked in worse than if we had gone with B&N's biggest competitor, at this point.

Well Rim isn't doing too well in the US. The solution is to remove the copy protection and then you can read them with a compatible app on your Playbook. As long as you purchased the books and don't share them, then removing the DRM should not cause you any problems.

In any case, the idea is to move to a bookseller who's willing to support my reading habits (as well as those of my girlfriend, who has spendier reading habits than mine). I'd really like to stick with B&N as I've grown comfortable, however they're making it really hard.

Kobo's PlayBook app doesn't do sideloaded ePub at all yet, so I'd be stuck with their Android app in the PlayBook Android Player at the moment. (Just somewhat subpar, is all.) It seems it'd be somewhat trivial to figure out how to make the nook Android app work on the PlayBook if they actually cared to.

But given the two alternatives, it does indeed look like I'm going to have to figure out how to strip DRM from nook books and download them all individually in order to do so. :/

                                                                                • Re: Nook and Blackberry Playbook?

It has been well over a year that we have been asking for a BlackBerry PlayBook app and have gotten no official response. Not a yes, not a no, not even a maybe. Just tell us already and we can all go about our business as usual. If the answer is NO, I'll support a book store that supports my reading device of choice. If the answer is YES or even a strong MAYBE (as in we're working on porting our android app to PB,) Then I will continue to wait. But as it is, it seems no one in your company cares. I wouldn't be surprised if you end up like that other big book store. What was it called? Barriers?

I just visited the blackberry playbook site and was checking out the apps. I did a search for 'nook' and found no nook app. But I did see the app for kindle. Very sad for me. I got the simple touch earlier this year. I want to get tablets for my kids in high school and the Nook tablet will not do. Sorry but I see more BN stores saying bye as customers leave. As my family might have to soon. I'm not going to keep two ebook accounts for four people?!
