    Cracked Screen

    BayLido

I just noticed my NC has a cracked screen.  I believe it just happened this morning and it's not much of a crack, maybe an 1 1/4 inches long, very close to the right edge.  I was using it outside when I first noticed it and it's been operating fine. The only difference that I am seeing is that it seems to be heating up.  It's never been warm at all, and before I noticed the crack, I remember thinking that it felt so warm although the morning was cool.  Now that I am back inside using it, it is warmer than it's ever been.

Does anyone know of any potential problems if I continue to use it?  I bought the extended warranty from B&N, so I am not completely out of luck but I am reluctant to use it so soon.  I've had it since December.

      Thanks

The NC should not get warm when just reading.    Very little is going on then, certainly nothing that should draw a lot of current from the battery (thus causing it to get warm).

And I understand about not wanting to use the extended warranty, you only get ONE replacement for "accidental" damage.    But a getting warm battery isn't accidental damage and should be covered by the standard warranty.    Although, I'm not sure a warm battery would cause the screen to crack.

I would suggest a trip to the local B&N store and talk with the Nook expert there.   Obviously, bring the NC with you to demonstrate the warmness issue.

Thanks for your reply.  I am certain that the crack is from a two year old stepping on it while jumping on the bed this morning.  I heard it pop, but didn't think too much of it because the bezel has the snap, crackle, pop that has been noted previously on the board.  I had already returned numerous NCs for screen flicker, and decided just to live with that problem.  Today is the first time it has heated up.

Can you purchase another extended warranty on the replacement?  I got it in the first place because of the two year old, and I seem to need it!

My NC occasionally is warm, not hot, but warm, in certain areas, while reading. When I brought it in to B&N I was told it was "normal" and that as long as it didn't get hot, it was okay.

Please do report back with what they tell you!

That's how mine is, it's warm near the bottom, and the left side.  It seems that over a short time, it's doesn't get warm and it never seemed warm while charging.  The thing is, it wasn't warm at all up until Wednesday morning.

I'll let you know what they say today.  Thanks!
