    USB and Side-loaded books

      First Issue:

My brother has a Nook Color, and he wanted to get the the 1.2 update. It's not coming automatically so I plugged it in to do it manually, and the USB won't work.

I tried the same cable with my Nook Color, no issues. So I tried a different micro-usb cable, same story, works on mine but not his. Is there any way of checking to see if it really is a physical issue?

I tried twice a factory reset and clearing everything, still the same issue.

      Second Issue:

I have a few side-loaded books, and I have this issue where occasionally the book "resets" back to the first page, and deletes all of my bookmarks.

I've read that sometimes if the Nook Color has a microsd card inserted there are issues with usb connectivity.  If your bro has a sd card in the nook, try taking it out, doing a soft restart of the nook and plugging it back into your computer.
Also, make sure you are properly ejecting your nook color from your computer before removing the usb cable.  You could also wiggle the usb cable in your brothers nook while attached to the computer and see if you can see the device pop up or not. :smileyhappy:

I tried, wiggling it, having an SD card in, resetting it completely, having an SD card out, resetting it completely again, wiping it, wiggling the cord more, using two different cables, and pushing the cord in at any angle that it can go in at.

and you are also connecting the usb cable while the nook is turned on (not locked or sleeping)?

I'd try connecting it to another computer as well.   I am assuming your brother's nook charges when plugged into the wall via the usb cable that came with the device?

If that doesn't work I guess you'll have to call up B&N customer service for a replacement.
