    Harry Potter ebooks, revisited

I thought sone of you would be interested in this.

      J. K. Rowling has just launched a website named pottermore.com.  There is no actual word on what it is going to be for, but there will be an announcement made next week (if you go to the website and click on one of the owls you will be redirected to a countdown).

Of particular interest was this passage in an article about it in the Telegraph:

"Earlier this year, Rowling agreed to the release of her books for Kindle and other electronic readers.

"She described e-books as a "godsend" in certain circumstances but added: 'Print will never die. There's no substitute for the feel of an actual book.'"

'm patiently waiting for the ebook version to come out. Otherwise I will never read it.

Rowling's agent confirmed back in April that she was "actively considering" the ebook options, not that an agreement had been reached.

Everything else has been pure speculation by the Scottish and interweb media.

"Actively considering" could be interpreted in many ways—from "I'm no longer saying absolutely NOT" to "we agree that it should happen someday" to "everything about the contract is ready and we're just arguing over $$ with the publisher".

I'm dubious that pottermore will launch with the eBooks being offered for the first time (legally, that is). It's more likely to just be some sort of immersive online experience. Think Facebook meets the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

When the books are coming, it will be such big news they will not keep it secret and only give a "mystery" notice a week ahead of time. There will be a huge press release and months of pre-order hype.

So, as much as I wish it were so, I think pottermore is just going to be the next level of cashing in on Potter fandom now that no new movies are in the pipeline. I hope I'm wrong, because they are long overdue, IMO.

I have all the books in paper but I can't hold any of them after Prisoner for long, thanks to arthritis in my hands. I got the audio books and I've listened to them more than once but there's nothing like reading a book in the original text. I tried getting Goblet in paperback and it was easier to hold, but the text was too small for my eyes and a large print pocketbook that long is never going to happen.

These books were written for children and I'm probably getting too old to read them but I still hope to be able to sit down and immerse myself in the wonderful world of Harry Potter once again. I sure hope Ms Rowling lets her work be published in eBook form.

What's with this countdown???!!!! Last night there were 7 hours and change when I went to bed. This afternoon 11 hours and 42 minutes!!!!!

Do we know that JK Rowling actually posted the page and announcement? Could it be some kind of elaborate hoax?

You missed the "1 day" shown before the 7 hours and change.  It is by JK Rowling.  Theories have it as a new gaming site and even an announcement that she will be selling ebooks of Harry Potter's books.

I'm excited for the Harry Potter books to finally be available as eBooks. If you can believe it, I've actually never read them and now I'm holding out until I can get them on my nook. :smileyhappy:
