Did you use the same USB cable in both instances? It could be a bad cable. I'd also try a standard microUSB cable if you are using the proprietary charger cable.
I did use the cable that came with it at both computers. I think my camera cable has the micro end, I will try that - thanks.
I too cannot get my new NC to connect to my home Netgear router, so I thought that I would connect directly to my laptop to download books from there. I was able to connect and thought that I copied the books that I had onto the NC. But when I disconnected and opened the NC, they weren't there.
I thought that I would try again, because I am sooo frustrated, I just want to get a book on this thing. But when I reconnected, not ten minutes after the first time - I got the error message "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it." I thought, OK, my laptop is older and my USB ports are failing, so I brought it to work with my today, and I got the same message.
The NC opens fine and I can do other stuff on it (but connect to the internet or read a book). Any ideas?
You have to turn it on. Not just the 'wake me up' screen you get when you plug it into the USB port. You have to also slide the green tab to the right to wake it up.
Also, you MUST eject the nook and microSD card.
Where exactly did you copy those books to on your nook from your computer?
They have to be in specific locations in order to be found.
It's explained in the User Guide.
