    Having Nook Color issues?

Did the update make you wonky?

There's this great thread that answers everything.

It's locked on the top of the page and Nook Engineer answers a lot of questions that re being repetitiously posted.

This post has been brought to you by ANGRY BIRDS.

Actually read FAQ's before posting? - what a concept :smileysurprised:

The only issue I see with my device is that my pages do not swipe as smoothly as before. The pages  have a bit of a shutter as I stroke them.

Yes, that post would be great if it answered the most frequently asked question of why is my NC able to connect to wifi but can't access the shop or sync to my library.  It does not address this at all.

              • Re: Having Nook Color issues?

I just bought an NC last night, and in less than 24 hours, I already have to send it back! It's defective. There is no keyboard for emailing. It just doesn't appear! Then, my 'Activity Browser' gave me an error message that told me it was not responding.

I feel duped for having spent so much time researching, and doing my homework to make sure I had all my bases covered, and that my purchase would be the right one. One day later I am disappointed.

                Not good.  :smileymad:

You aren't a very patient person.  Sorry that you didn't like your experience (though you only gave it 24 hours).

Maybe you should have asked for help here before 'pulling the plug'!  This forum is full of people just waiting to help each other out with problems that do come up in life. Or maybe you like your Kindle better.

                    Good luck and happy Holidays!

Exactly what was there to like about RIFbeliever's experience? Apparently they did the research, made an informed decision, bought the NC and virtually immediately had problems. Why should they have to go anywhere to find answers to problems within 24 hours of the purchase?

I'm sure that RIFbeliever feels welcome here now. :smileymad:

I have nothing against the Nook Color. I am sure it is a wonderful product. But the particular NC that I purchased had it's own issues.

In trying to keep my initial message short, I did not include the fact that I had called Nook CS THREE SEPARATE TIMES prior to returning my NC.

My first call to CS was to find out why my book wouldn't rotate to landscape. Apparently, the NC does not have that feature for books. It does for the web, but not for reading books.

My second call to CS was when I noticed I didn't have a keyboard for emailing. That is when THEY informed me that my NC was defective. They offered to send me a replacement NC, so I said fine, I would accept a new NC replacement. I figured that if I was only missing a keyboard, and I couldn't read books in landscape, it wasn't the end of the world, and I would at least be able to read the book I had downloaded and started reading the night before. However; when I went to open the book, it was gone!!

That prompted my third call to CS. When the CS representative told me that I hadn't downloaded a book, I asked if the 70 pages of the book I downloaded and started reading the night before were a 'figment of my imagination'???

Yeah ~ that pretty much did it. My book just mysteriously disappeared. It was during that call that I told the CS rep to cancel my replacement order. I would return the NC myself.

So ~ for the record - I wasn't doing anything wrong.

And I don't recall mentioning anything about a Kindle, but you cared enough to ask, so yes, I can read books in landscape, and I am enjoying my new KF immensely. :smileyvery-happy:

I find it amazing and very telling that obviously, since there's no comment, absolutely no one from B&N customer service care to read our customer comments, problems, or complaints.  If I owned a company and read RIFbeliever's comments, I would be on the phone or computer to email him immediately.  B&N thinks they are too big and important to worry about one individual customer. They must hear so many complaints, that they roll off their backs like water on a duck.... I wonder how successful Mr. Macy, Mr. Gimbel, or Mr. Sears would have been back in the day in their retail empires ignoring their customers? I have a feeling these people knew the value of the individual customer.  This reminds me of when I bought a Swanson Turkey TV Dinner, opened it, and saw a bug on top of the mashed potatoes. I called them immediately and they didn't sound at all surprised...they acted as if it were an everyday occurance (which it probably is) and spoke as if I, the consumer, were just an annoyance. Needless to say, I never ever purchased Swanson again (and I advise you not to either!). Anyhow, my point to B&N and any company is that if your product has a problem or defect...whether you have one or one thousand complaints...it's in your best interest to remember the oldtimers businessman's slogan: "THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT!....Even if he's wrong" !

But what is an "Activity Browser", where can I find it on my NC?

                            • Re: Having Nook Color issues?

You're in good company.... I also purchased my Nook Color in November. Mine held out about a month... then I installed the newest update, and within a few days, it reformatted itself...brand new freshly formatted Nook Color in my hands. I reinstalled the update again, as advised by BN. Within a few more days, it was frozen at the Read Forever screen.  They replaced my brick (with a refurbished unit, which made me none too happy).  I was without a reader for 2 weeks, as that's how long it took for my replacement to arrive.  Now, only 1 1/2 months later, the microSD card won't stay inserted in the replacement Nook.  After much complaint, the first rep. I spoke to told me that they could send me a brand new replacement, but they didn't have any in stock - I should call back in a few days.  (Really?) After making it known that I didn't find that solution accpetable, I spoke to a supervisor, who agreed to send me a brand new (not refurbished) unit (I did try to get a refund but that was a no-go) and magically found one to ship out, express.  So I guess this is going to be an ongoing thing?  Very frustrated...as for those who say you have no patience, I say we have a right to expect a properly functioning product when spending over $200 for a reader.  This product has major flaws.  I also did my homework, by the way... I feel I would have gotten a better deal with Hasting's bargin reader/tablet combo, which has full Android.  Very dissapointed.

I bought a Nook Color earlier this year.   I haven't had it out of my nightstand since May.  It drives me crazy.  I decided I'd look online for help to see if it was just my NC or if others have the same issues.

First, when I would try to wake it up I would have to swipe a million times before it would ever work.  Finally a friend told me to put a number code in and I did that and it's worked fine ever since.

I did dig it out the other night b/c I figured it was a huge waste of money sitting in my nightstand.  I tried to push on that ^ button and the "library, etc" stuff pops along the bottom.  I touch "settings" repeatedly and nothing happens.  Every once in awhile I will get lucky and it will pop up.

When I push the "shop"  and browse and try to scroll through the titles it pops up a title every single time.  I cannot scroll through anything - magazines, books.  It always selects one and opens it up.

When I was reading a book when I first got it, I LOVE to highlight.  that feature almost drove me insane.  I couldn't get it to highlight a sentence - I would have to highlight a word at a time.  sometimes I would get lucky and the drag feature would work but most times no.

Am I the only one with so many NC issues???

My NC randomly reset itself to the manufacturer's setting last night.  I lost all my pics and documents.  I had updated to the 1.4.1 and have lost that as well.  I've download the manual update once again to update but the hardware isn't recognizable by any of my computers.  It's so frustrating!  Anyone have any ideas on how to resolve.  It was a gift from my children for Christmas 2010.

If this is a brand new unit, I'd take it in for exchange. It should not be doing that sort of thing to you!

                                        Hi Fontainebleau,

I am sure the NC is a wonderful product, when it works :smileyhappy:

Unfortunately, due to all of my technical difficulties, I had to exchange mine for a Kindle Fire. I love my KF :smileyvery-happy:

You may have to send your NC back for a replacement.

One piece of advice; I would not give them your credit card number in order for them to send you a replacement!

                                        Best of luck to you!

MIne has done the same exact thing. I know you posted this months ago, but the rep at my Barnes & Noble had never heard of it and I tried customer service through chat, but they couldn't help either. I was going to wait and get a new unit this Christmas when I have a bit more money, but now I can't even read my purchses on my smart phone or my laptop. What this means is I'm essentially paying for content I can't read. I sent an email to B&N and they sent me back a computer generated response. I'm not a happy camper.

12 different subscriptions could be quite a few copies of each magazine.  Magazines can eat a lot of room on the NC and Nook tablet - the New Yorker goes 100 meg + per copy, and anything with embedded video will also be pretty big.

I just took a look, and don't see an obvious way to choose how many copies of a magazine live on a device.  Both the magazines I subscribe to keep 8 copies on the device.  if that's a default setting, you'd be looking at 96 total issues across 12 subscriptions - I could see that chewing up the onboard storage pretty fiece.

I only have two really annoying issues, both involve Scrolling. I want to be able to browse my pictures while keeping their file structure and scroll through them after opening one. I have a lot of manga's saved as .jpeg's and it is really tedious trying to find the first page of the right one in the series when they are in the gallery app. I would also like a scroll bar in my library. I'm OK with my library being alphabetical, but when I want to read Zack Zublargonson I'm SOL unless I know the book name and search it, or the author, and usually end up getting unrelated results. If I try to swipe to the bottom, I usually end up opening something, and then have to go back and start over from the top. That or being able to browse by Author via the first letter of their last name.

OK, the wife and I both have NOOK Color devices which worked well when we first got them over a year ago.  Now they both say we cannot connect to WIFI and know for a fact our WIFI is transmitting OK. Why doesn't Barnes and Noble want to help people?  They have made many Millions in profits from us customers.  Our other WIFI devices work well and have even turned them off but the NOOK refuses to operate.  We no longer can view NETFLIX using the NOOK or even use the E-Mail feature.  That's a lot of money we spent buying this product and we need help, a new NOOK or monetary compensation.

If you switched to dual band i.e. using both 5GHz and the other, that can cause Nook to stop receiving wireless.

Also try to use a, b, or g protocol isntead of n.

Finally, it helps to sometimes 'Forget' a connection, restart Nook, and then add connection again.
