    Netflix not working

Is anyone else having issues with the netflix app? It was working fine for me yesterday and even this morning but now everytime i open it I have to force close.
        • Re: Netflix not working

I am having the same problem. Used it last evening, tried to go back to it, and its frozen.

          • Re: Netflix not working

Yeah mine keeps doing the same thing!

            • Re: Netflix not working
It worked fine after powering off my device and turning it back on.
              • Re: Netflix not working

My Netflix was working fine for about a month.  Suddenly, the picture and the sound are no longer in sync.  The audio is much faster than the picture.  Netflix works fine in the house and on the kids ipods, but no longer on my nook.  I have tried different shows (the problem is on all of them)  and have tried logging out and back in.  Has anyone else had this problem and been able to solve it?

                • Re: Netflix not working
netflix app works fine for me although for the desktop drop down won't allow me to login Wtf
                  • Re: Netflix Activation code?

Have a Nook Tablet, and when i tried to login to Netflix w/my netflix password etc. The response is, " your plan does not support streaming."

I checkedwith Netflix, and I DO have streaming. Tried to activate the Nook Tablet, and an activation code is asked for. where do i find that Activation code? thanks

                    • Re: Netflix not working

I just spoke to both Netflix and to Nook Support. The story I got was that Netflix updated their firmware and the Nook was not compatible with the update. For people with Nook Color the fix is fairly easy (because Netflix was not factory-installed software). I believe the process is as follows:

Press the Netflix app until the options come up and uninstall it. You can reinstall it from your app selection, or however you installed it the first time.

For those of us with a lovely Nook tablet...we're just out of luck until Netflix and Barnes & Noble figure out a way to update the preinstalled version of Netflix. (Doesn't it seem reasonable that they would have thought about this BEFORE they sold millions of them???) The Nook Support girl (very sweet but not terribly helpful) said that they did not announce this because they don't have a time frame yet as to when the problem will be worked out (maybe never?). I am really, really not happy.

Side note: Not sure exactly what's up with B & N, but they just announced that they will be closing 20 stores a year for the next decade. They blamed it on loss of revenue due to online competition. I concede that maybe customer (no) service may have a bigger role in that than they credit.

I'm in the same boat you are with a Nook tablet. Netflix was working 4 days ago and now it just turns to a gray screen. Since I can't delete the app, the only way to try and solve it is through app settings and I get the whole "user name and password not recognized". Ugh!
                          • Re: Netflix not working
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! ARGH Netflix on my NOOK tablet was like the only way I could get stuff done with my 4 year old around lol. He loved watching Mighty Machines on the NOOK. They need to keep up...I can't afford a new ANYTHING right now. This sucks eggs. :smileysad:
                            • Re: Netflix not working

AND mine only stopped working a couple months ago. The original post was in 2013, hum. My poor NOOK does need replacing but I can't right now. Despite a cover thingy my son has cracked the frame somewhat lol. Everything works but Netflix though. :smileysad:

                            • Re: Netflix not working

I'm in the same boat as everyone.  I decided to use my Netflix on my Tablet 8gb and no luck. The app is dead in the water.    So very disappointing. I get the gray screen of death I see the Netflix boot up and nothing!!! And to make matters worse I guess this also affects the configuration under settings.

When I go to configure, Netflix insists my password is incorrect........it's not. It refuses to link my account.

I can only hope it gets fixed.

                                • Re: Netflix not working POSSIBLE SOLUTION

                                  Hi everyone,

I had the same problem most of you described. Nook color netflix was working fine this morning then went gray. I trouble shooted  but nothing worked. Tried powering off, then tried to remove app from nook (not possible with nook color), tried loggin in to my netflix acct (didn't work). FINALLY, my inner voice said just go to netflix via web: netflix.com/login. Tried that and I was able to get into my account but videos won't play :smileysad: just takes me to the compatibility screen for mac and windows....of course no nook compatibility. But, my black nook tablet works well with netflix. Very disappointed because everyone on family has their own nook and only one works with netflix.....these things were not inexpensive either. Shame on B&N! There should be some sort of compensation for trouble and inconvenience.

                                  Here goes nothing.

I have spent the last day 1/2 battling with Netflix on Facebook over their failure to address the issue with the Non-working Netflix app on the Nook Tablet.  It seems they really could care less, because.......Hey its most likely you!! Or your evil network.  They even went so far as to claim that they were unaware there was a problem..............excuse me while I roll my eyes.

I spent a good 20 minutes with their tech chat support and that was a comedy of 'ITS YOU AND YOUR NETWORK......NOT US"

You can see my discuusion with them here on facebook:

(Look for Jen Blue, they may have deleted or censored my post)

Honestly they don't seem to care or want to fix the issue.  Disappointing.

                                    • Re: Netflix not working

                                      thanks for sharing bluegirl.

                                      It's disappointing.

I've used NEtflix for a long long time and the streaming has always been good on all devices. I've never had to use customer service.

They charge what I would consider a reasonable amount. It should be enough to cover good customer service.

                                        • Re: Netflix not working

i called nextflix they said i had to ask nook support.... nook support said to call nextflix support... wtf people

                                            • Re: Netflix not working

I had the exact same problem with my Nook Tablet......dark gray/black screen, incorrect password message even though I know it was the correct password, etc, etc.  This happened 6 months ago and again yesterday. I fixed it both times the same way. A hard reset!

Yes, a hard reset. Very much a pain in someways but at least everything is still in my account.

Both times I did the hard reset and neflix works. I was kind of concerned it would not work this time since the recent messages mention the update issue but it did work. Finished watching one of my episodes last night. Hope this helps!

                                        • Re: Netflix not working

I was all ready to get a Nook HD+.  But this issue with Netflix means that I won't be buying another Nook. How can I be sure that the same thing won't happen on that device?  I've been a loyal customer with three Nooks, but this kind of problem is inexcusable.

There should be no reason that Netflix shouldn't work on a Nook tablet.  I've had mine less than a year.

I hate to see Barnes and Noble go under, but with these kinds of technical problems make it seem inevitable.

                                            • Re: Netflix not working

HardyBoy, so you have this issue on your Nook Tablet and therefore won't be buying a HD+?

Or did reading about this issue for others scare you off?

                                                • Re: Netflix not working
I have a Nook tablet that I have had less than a year. Two nights ago I got the dreaded gray/black screen. So yes, the problem was on my tablet. I am really frustrated also, and concerned about what many have reported about the lack of knowledge at tech support for both BN and Netflix. For the record, I happily watched Netflix on my first generation iPad today. I wanted a Nook HD+ for better resolution, but wouldn't you be cautious after my experience? I still read a lot of course and am happy with my tablet and simple reader and first generation Nook for that. I just don't want to invest in another Nook for watching movies and tv shows if the outcome will be disappointing. I'll just upgrade my iPad, which I really don't want or need to do. That's my story. Bottom line. Netflix is a simple and very used app. No matter whose problem it is, BN should pressure Netflix to resolve the problem, or it will lose customers.
                                                    • Re: Netflix not working

                                                      Yes, that makes sense.

If I had had a bad experience with ANY Nook and NEtflix and NEtflix was one of the main reasons for getting a Tablet then obviously - I would be very cautious.

And again - the onus is on B&N to get the issue resolved - even if it's Netflix's problem.

It's very strange that so many people are getting problems with the Netflix App.

Just wanted to add my voice.  I've had a NookColor for a couple of years now and Netflix has been awesome.  And yep, now I get the grey screen.  Or if I try to log in a different way it won't accept my password.

                                                          Hope this gets fixed!!

                                                                  Alex Garcia

                                                                  Hi All,

We are currently working with Netflix for a resolution to this "gray screen" error.

There should be a permanent fix relatively soon.

However, clearing app data seems to be a viable workaround. For those of you that have "modified" your units, feel free to clear cache, etc.

For those who have not, please reboot your device or ultimately erase/deregister. Upon rebooting ensure you are connected to a strong Wi-Fi signal and try again.

Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience, as we work to get this resolved.

Also of note: this behavior seems to be isolated to NT & NC at this time. For anyone worried about Netflix performance on NOOK HD/HD+.

As always feel free to PM with any concerns, and make sure to visit our Issue & Suggestion exchanges.

                                                                    • Re: Netflix not working

Guess would have to wait. But I'm not bitter ... yet :smileyhappy:

Guess i will be sharing my ipad with the kids . This just plain sucks.i paid extra for the one that played movies. Ugh
                                                                        • Re: Netflix not working

Over the past few days, I have unregistered, reregistered, and (in one case, when I had my drive repartitioned) reset to factory build.  None of these methods have worked.  I have tried archiving, and then unwarchiving.  Also, since the app is free, I have deleted the app, "purchased" it again from the app store, again with no results.

When I brought my Nook Color (running 1.4.3, BTW) to my local B&N, the associate helped me as much as he could, verified that his Netflix account information didn't work either (so I guess it isn't a password issue)

I am currently sitting by my wireless router, and therefore have the strongest connection possible.  After archiving, and unarchiving, and signing in...

Nope.  "Login Timed Out."  It was worth a try.

I do appreciate that we are seeing some responses from the B&N admins on this thread, and have some hope.  Thanks for listening :smileyvery-happy:

                                                                            • Re: Netflix not working

After about 20 seconds of the spinner going around:

Next error message:  Please sign in again.  You have been signed out because your account information has changed

???  I am able to easily log in using the same username/password on several other devices in our home.  I definitely have the correct password, etc.

Called Nook Support.  Did a hard reset.  Tried deleted/reinstalling again.  Reset all of my info.  Nothing worked.  They told me it was a Netflix issue, and that nobody else had reported this issue.

I called Netflix support. They said nobody has reported this issue.  They said it is either my router or my ISP.  I can view other video just fine, and I can view Netflix on my laptop and iPod just fine.  So, I tend to believe that they're passing the buck as well.

This is SOMEBODY'S issue.  Who is going to fix it?  I sure won't be buying another Nook device if I can't get this one to work when I need it to.

                                                                                • Re: Netflix not working

I'm having this exact same problem! Very, very frustrating!!!! If I try logging in through the app, it says I've been signed out because my account info has changed (which it hasn't), and if I try and configure Netflix through Settings it asks for a login and password. When I type in my email and password it says they are incorrect. The only login I have is my email address (which I confirmed with a rep at Netflix) and my password hasn't changed. Netflix works just fine on our computer and streaming through our Wii, so this is obviously an issue between Barnes and Noble and Netflix. Any other suggestions as to how I can get this to work? We were planning on buying Nooks for all 3 of our kids for their birthdays. Needless to say, we are most certainly reconsidering.

                                                                                    • Re: Netflix not working

                                                                                        • Re: Netflix not working

Ok, i read the entire thread and seems like everyone has tried what I did. B&N tech dont know nothing about trying to fix the issue.

I have (2) nooks tablets in the house, One Nook (my son's) works fine with Netflix and my daughters nook, i can view Netflix movie selections, but when i go to play, it says "Connection error - We're unable to connect you to the Netflix, please try again later" But i can sit my Sons Nook tablet next to it, and it works fine.

My daughter uses her nook everyday, and now she cant use it, its been like this for 3 months!

So the whole theory that B&N says check your internet connect is just a line of bull....

I went to B&N, and they cant figure it out and tech has no idea what they are doing, the girl at B&N store is very good, and she knows more then the tech......

Wish B&N would get this fixed, this is a big issue for my 6 yr old daughter who uses her Nook everyday. this should be an easy work around for either B&N or netflix, but the way customer service is now aday, it about forcing the consumer to buy the latest technology. Yes, im upset, becasue this has been a 3-4 month issue

                                                                                            • Re: Netflix not working

Anyone experiencing sign-in errors recently, (login timeout) should reboot their device and attempt again.

Netflix has confirmed a fix for this issue on their end.We certainly apologize for any inconvenience endured.

In regards to the "grey screen" error - we are still working on a resolution, but should have it soon.

Thank you all for your patience while we try to get this squared away.

I am happy to report that Today 4/15/2013 - I was once again able to access my NetFlix on my Nook Color. I'm glad it's working. I was terribly disappointed that it took so long for the problem to be resolved.

I just spent about two hours on line with a terrible service on line chat. They leave you hanging and while you are trying to make use of the time, they come back and drop you if you dont respond instantly
Aside from that, I feel the fool because I just spent the rest of my two hours on the phone with the Netflix tech who procalimed "thats the first time I have ever heard of that"..made me feel special. Then I read this thread. I even read it to him on the phone. Huh? Let me get my manager..who never appeared. This is so dissapointing. As a B&N supporter, I thought I had found a reasonable alternative to I-everything. This is insane. First Netflix raised their prices and now B&N is sending everyone running to an apple store.
                                                                                                        • Re: Netflix not working

Any updates here?  I have three Nook Tablets in the house, and the first one just had the "Grey Screen" issue pop up.  My son's miserable that he's going to lose his game scores on all of his games now... but that will be less of a fight than a tablet without Netflix.  Just hoping there's a fix planned so this won't be occurring every few months in this household.  Or just getting the Play store on the NC/NT would be superb, too!

                                                                                            • Re: Netflix not working

I've been using Netflix on my Nook color without problems until yesterday, when I got the grey screen of death after attempting to log in and was unable to get my nook to recognize my Netflix account.  I also cannot uninstall Netflix, and cannot re-load the application. (not available for your device).

                                                                                              Quite frustrating...

Netflix is the only other thing I use it for besides reading. If it doesn't get straightened out, I will switch products. So sad, it was good while it lasted.

                                                                                                • Re: Netflix not working

                                                                                    • Re: Netflix not working

This is an official B&N site yet they will not join in on this conversation and admit that there is a problem with either B&N or Netflix or both and clue us, the customers who helped make them who they are, in on the problem  and tell us either how to fix it, if a fix is even possible and if not, when the fix can be expected.

I hope B&N can understand how frustrating this is.

                                                                                      • Re: Netflix not working
I deregistered and reregistered my nook. That is the only way to fix it. You will loose stuff. But it is the ONLY way. There was no other way passed the stalemate gray screen to load your titles.
                                                                                        • Re: Netflix not working

I've had an annoying problem with Netflix on my Nook Tablet and, now, my Nook HD+. This issue shows up far too often under the following conditions:

                                                                                          1. I'm watching a video and have to pause it.

                                                                                          2. The video is paused long enough for the system to sleep.

                                                                                          3. I'll wake the system up and am taken back to the Netflix main screen.

                                                                                          4. If I try to restart my video, the application doesn't respond.

The odd thing is, I can still scroll through titles and such, but I can't launch any of them. The solution is to either reboot the Nook or shut down Netflix manually from the "applications setting" menu.

This issue has remained across two tablets. I've tried unregistering my Nook and starting over, yet the issue remains. Please help!

By the way, I'm sure the folks at Barnes & Noble hear a lot of griping about Nook issues. So, here's a bit of praise -- adding Google Play and the Google suite of programs to the HD/HD+ was a truly awesome move. I'll buy these little tablets as long as y'all sell 'em. My Nook went from a great piece of hardware that was quite limited (well, I did root it to get access to Play prior to the latest update) to one that is downright great. Thanks for the addition!

                                                                                          • Re: Netflix not working

We are having the same problem. We bought two tablets at Christmas this last year, one for my son and one for my daughter. His Netflix acct works but hers gets the black/grey screen. Its very frusdtrating for her. I have been considering buying a nook, but will probably go with the ipad since this issue seems like it prob won't be fixed.

                                                                                            • Re: Netflix not working

                                                                                              • Re: Netflix not working

I am having the same problem describe by other users here: I cannot use the Netflix app (gray screen, have to force close) and when I try to log in via settings I am told that my password is not correct, even when I verify it with Netflix.

Is this app simply not supported on the Tablet now that the HD is the standard version?  If not, how can I delete the darn thing?

                                                                                                • Re: Netflix not working

Surely someone has a fix for this since there have been problems reported for several months now... It is just so very sad because I was thinking about getting another nook tab for my son but now it wouldn't do me any good...

If you're still encountering a gray screen when launching Netflix after restarting your Nook, you will need to restore the default factory settings by Erasing & Deregistering the device.

                                                                                                      • Erasing and deregistering does not delete any of the content from your Barnes & Noble account. You will be able to re-download it even after erasing and deregistering.
                                                                                                      • Erasing and deregistering does delete any files you have transferred from your computer to your Nook Color. Be sure to back up these files before performing the steps below!
                                                                                                      1. Tap the white arrow at the bottom of the screen (in the middle of the Quick Nav bar).
                                                                                                      2. Tap the Settings icon.
                                                                                                      3. Tap Device Info.
                                                                                                      4. Tap Erase & Deregister Device.
                                                                                                      5. Tap Erase & Deregister Device again.
                                                                                                      6. Tap Reset NOOK.
                                                                                                      7. Once the Nook has reset itself and rebooted, follow the onscreen instructions to connect to your Barnes & Noble account.
                                                                                                      8. Launch the Netflix app and try again.
                                                                                                        • Re: Netflix not working

                                                                                                          • Re: Netflix not working

I deleted the Netflix app that was downloaded from B&N and downloaded the one from Google app store. There is definitely a problem with the app updates on the ones downloaded from B&N. If you can get any app from the playstore instead of B&N, go with the app store. Updates apply better, is what I have found on my Nook. The next day I had an update on the Netflix, and now it works. If this fails, unregister then re-register your Nook. Yep, a pain, but works. Good luck!

                                                                                                                  • Re: Netflix not working

The Google Play Store is not available on the NT. The only Netflix app available is the B& N app which appears to have issues.

                                                                                                                      • Re: Netflix not working

Yeah, the Nook Tablet won't let you uninstall netflix, and for some stupid reason we can't download anything from the google store only through Barnes and Noble.

Ugh.......I love my Nook but have certainly learned my lesson from all this!

                                                                                                                  • Re: Netflix not working

This worked for me. My Netflix app had been working pretty well...besides the periodic necessary refresh...but last week I got the dreaded grey screen consistently. Called B&N Support to confirm the fix. It was easy. Had to download everything once I re-registered my Nook Tablet but that didn't take too long. Funny...some books/apps automatically downloaded and others had to be manually downloaded by touching the download bar for that book/app. Lost my Notes entries but figured I would so had previously copied them to my iPhone notes app which I use more anyway. Kept my place in the two books I was currently reading...nice.

Caution...I was advised by B&N Support that this only works if you re-register your Nook using the same email address you used when initially registering your Nook. Otherwise you will lose all previous purchases/downloads. And, as stated, you will lose all side loaded stuff. Bummer if you've changed your email address. Thankfully we have not.

B&N Support also advised me that Netflix should work consistently now but if it doesn't then I should follow the erase/deregister/re-register solution again for the fix.

                                                                                                                      • Re: Netflix not working

Additionally, it was confirmed by B&N Support that the Netflix app cannot be uninstalled and re-installed so the erase/deregister/re-register is the only fix available for the Nook Tablet.

After reading this thread...and before I did the fix...I was really disappointed and considered buying a Kindle Fire. But the fix was easy and much cheaper. <G> Doesn't mean I won't get a Fire...way, way more good free books available through Amazon...but for now everything is happily status quo.

                                                                                                                  • Re: Netflix not working

Will there be a patch or an update available to resolve this issue?

I do not want to do a factory reset or deregister/register again.  I don't want to have to download all my items again and I would be losing my bookmarks, notes, progress on the apps, etc.

It's October 2013.  Is there any new information/progress regarding this issue with Netflix?

                                                                                                                    • Re: Netflix not working

I first got the "gray screen of death" when attempting to open Netflix a couple of days ago.

I am in the process of resetting/de-registering my Nook.  I hope this works.

I wonder how wide-spread this problem is and what the real cause is.

Update: It looks like everything that was downloaded from B&N is there.

Netflix is... I got the gray screen, and started to worry, but now it's asking me to sign in.  :smileyhappy:  Yay it's working!

I did loose my non-B&N content, but most of that is easily replaceable, and I sort of like starting over with a clean slate.  It's better than having to shell out money for a new device right now.

                                                                                                                      • Re: Netflix not working

You probably have, if new, an HD or HD+. These have multiple profiles, each profile can have flags set to hide specific content.

Tap on the profile icon on the top left of the home page. Pick the edit option, then pick your profile. You should get an option to manage content (I'm writing from memory) with check boxes for each item. Make sure all boxes are checked.

                                                                                                                              • Re: Netflix not working

Same problem with a Nook Color.  Its been about a month now with no netflix on this tablet.

My only options are to link/unlink the account.  I have not found a way to clear any settings (like exists on android devices).  I had already tried doing a full power cycle a few times.

                                                                                                                                Now what do I do?

                                                                                                                            • Re: Netflix not working grey screen

Sorry if I'm repeating what someone else suggested but I don't have the time to read all these posts. You have to go into your settings and completely erase your nook and start over. Pain in the you know what but it works! I found this information on the netflix forums. Hope this helps!

                                                                                                                              • Re: Netflix not working

I've tried all the posted fixes for the Netflix app on my original Nook Tablet. BTW, they are the same fixes suggested by B&N tech support. They each worked once or twice but now the app is just plain dead no matter what I try. De-registering worked the best but now even that does nothing for my Netflix app. This was a game changer for me since I use Netflix on my device every night.

So on Cyber Monday I bought a new generation Kindle Fire HD. Netflix works and Amazon has about a million more good free/discounted e-books than B&N so I am happy again. Happier even...love all the good free e-books on Amazon! And that's without Amazon Prime folks. Oh yeah...my portable charger/battery (iGoGreen) works on the KF. It does not work on my NT which made it harder to watch video/read all day away from home cause there was no charging/operating unless an outlet was available...no outlets on airplanes.

I loved my NT. Now I love my KF. All because B&N refused to fix their app. I can understand that their current financial woes are affecting their business decisions. But choosing not to fix the Netflix app was a poor choice IMO cause Netflix is so popular.

Netflix still works on my stepmom's NT but I suspect it will eventually die as mine and others' did. Then I will have some guilt for recommending the NT over the KF to her. <sigh>

I am having the same issue of Netflix not working properly.  You can hear the video, not see it. It does not matter if the app is from the Google App store or downloaded from B&N.  I suspect it is some type of incompatibility with another app, since it was working fine and we have not had any other updates to our OS lately.  Why is this not fixed?  Netflix is blaming B&N for it not working, B&N states it is a Netflix problem.  Why are you losing money in your Nook division?  Because you are lacking in the bug fix department and losing customers.  I love my Nook and would hate to go to another tablet/ereader supplier.  I have recommended the Nook to friends in the past, but not any more.  I love to read a good book, but also like the capabilities to watch a movie/show on the same device.  Hey B&N, just get us a fix and we would all be very appreciative, besides having to unregister and register our Nooks every time it stops working...  Thank you.:smileysad:
