Updated to 1.4 with no issues. I still went back and put in my micro sd card with CM7.

        • 31. Re: NOOK Color Update 1.4

I did the update today and my nook friends disappeared.... but the really wierd part is I can see updates still AND see over 6000 + books I can borrow.

Is there anything I can do??

Another NookColor owner protesting the "N" button change!

Alex, can you please pass these complaints onto customer support?

Sideloaded software in zip file. It has been sitting there for hours. Is there any thing to do other than wait? The file remains zipped. If I highlight the file a pop up says "unsupported file format" --- what's UP?

I don't know if this will help anyone or not but . . . .

My first attempt at the update didn't work.  In looking around to see if I could discover what the issue was I noticed that in IE9, the downloads proceedure changed the zip file name.  Once I redownloaded the update file and placed it right onto my desktop rather than in the Downloads Shortcut box like IE normally does, the update worked like a charm.

AWESOME update btw . . . first one I've gotten excited about.  All those little things I didn't care for are fixed or gone.  Great changes to the shelves and library and major nice changes to the shop/store area.

Netflix worked fine for me as well.  If Netflix will leave their app alone it should work great LOL.  However . . . streaming was choppy, pic quality not so hot, and there is the sound issue . . . must use headphones even after taking it out of the cover.

Still . . . . I bought it for a reader, not to watch movies on so that whole Netflix/Movies thing doesn't bother me much at all.

Does anyone know where to place .cbz (comics) files? Not sure if I should place them in "books" folder....

                  • 36. Re: NOOK Color Update 1.4

I love the update. I would like to see:

                    1. Password confirm deletion rather than disabling password to allow people to delete stuff.

                    2. The ability to put your videos or music files on the home screen or a shelf, so it is more convenient to just start a movie or video rather than dig into myfiles and then the SD card.

                    3. Option to use physical 'N' button or the old software button to bring up the menus, just in case the 'N' button wears out. Options are great!

I love this device and it keeps getting better with each update. Keep up the great work!!

                    • 37. Re: NOOK Color Update 1.4

Installed the update last night (2 hours to download, but less than 5 minutes to update).  So far I'm very happy with it.  My PDF comics read better.  I can read CBZ files beautifully.  Plus, my "NookBook" comics (not the new "NookComics") that had small pages, making them hard to read, can now be zoomed in on, making for a much better reading experience.

The "n" button might be my only worry, but I seemed to push it accidentally when I want to push the onscreen button anyway.  I guess it'll bother me more when it actually wears out.

For movies, I purchased the Movie Gallery app from dvdcatalyst and leave it in my daily shelf. Add images with the same name as the videos somewhere on your nookcolor and...bam...easy movie access even a five year old can use...my five year old loves it.

First and foremost, I gotta say I LOVE the nook update. If nothing else, I'm grateful that they finally fixed one of the most asinine issues i've seen on a device. The dictionary and the fact that I could only look up words if they were in front of me. It's not a perfect dictionary but it gets the job done, so thanks for making it available to look up any word at any time.

As far as issues... I'm on board with everyone that would rather not use the hard "n" button as frequently. Waking the nook up with it is fine, but I definitely preferred the soft home/menu button from before.

Another small, but annoying gripe is with custom wallpaper. If you pick a nook stock photo, it would come up crystal clear on your home page, but a regular side loaded photo would have to be cropped. After cropping, it looked a bit blurry and zoomed in too much. I always got around that by fixing the photos up on my pc to the nook screen dimensions, then put it in the "wallpaper" file on the main directory. After that, the wallpapers would act like the nook stock photos and come out equally as clear, but now, no matter what I do, I get the crop option and lower quality wallpaper. It was perfect before, so I'm not sure why that was changed.

Besides the wallpaper and the "n" button thing, I'm really happy with the update.

1.4 is not working right for me....

I upgraded last night and everything seemingly went fine.  Netflix would not come up in any searches I did in the app store on my Nook and I finally found it by browsing the app store through my PC.  I downloaded it and it appears on my Nook now.  The strange thing is it started out in my Apps folder and I was able to use it, however now it appears under My stuff -> Everything Else along with a bunch of apps I previously had installed and some free books that all now indicate are not supported on this device.  Angry Birds will no longer launch and while it originally appeared in the same Everything Else folder it now appears in the apps folder after archiving and reactivating it. When I click to launch it I get the following message "There is a problem with your purchase" and it tells me to check my order status on nook.com.  Lastly Netflix now shows up in the Everything Else folder as unsupported, however from the home screen I can launch it from the icons that appear at the bottom as recently used.

I also am not a fan of the new "N" button functionality.  The touch screen option was way better in my opinion.  If anyone else has experienced any of the same issues I have and has any ideas on how to fix it I'd love to hear them.

                            Thanks!

                            • 41. Re: NOOK Color Update 1.4

I have to chime in that I also do not like having to use the hard N to navigate.

However, the thing that's bugging me the most (keeping in mind I haven't done alot of exploring at this point), is the QuickOffice Lite update.  I have over 200 word documents that I access regularly, and all of the formatting has changed.  There are no line breaks any more in the documents.  It's just showing as one huge document with little boxes where line breaks should be.  Makes it very hard to read.  Is there anyway to get the formating back, or do I need to roll back to the previous nook version?  I'd rather not do that, but as I use the Nook Color more for the document purposes more than reading books, it's really not worth keeping the update if the formatting can't be fixed.

                              Thanks...

well yes, the mechanical n button is annoying but I can get used to if since I have to.

I MISS the swiping and cant find what ppl are talking about swiping left.

also to close a book I now have to press the mechanical N button AND the home button. its not much but cumbersome and does not seem like an improvement.

I keep playing with it but so far I am not all that impressed. prefer the touch screen and double tap over the n button any day.

Is there a comprehensive list of the "100" updates available?

Just loaded the new software on my Nook Color.  LOVE IT!  Just finish watching a movie from Netflix.  Worked very well.  There was one quick instant where looked a little blurry, and I thought it was getting ready to buffer, but it didn't.  I had just charged it up, before I watched the movie, so just a little battery drained.

Can't wait until they have the Hulu App available for the Color. I'm very glad I waited and didn't root it.
