    NC Won't Synch?

    dphenry157

My NC will not synch with any of my PC's or laptops.  I plug the USB cable in and the NC just sits and stares at me - no connection?  Last night I called tech support and spend close to half an hour, with no success.  We tried the NC USB cable as well as a USB cable that I had with my Nook B/W, nothing worked.  Finally the tech said that I needed to upgrade my USB drivers, but he said that was up to me and my PC/laptop manufacturer's to know how to do that.  I Goggled most of the evening and I'm still not finding anywhere where I get new update USB drivers.  Has anyone else had the problem, and how did you resolve it?  I too have the WSJ issue that has been reported previously about not get daily update editions.  Are the issues connected?  I reported the WSJ issue over a week ago to Tech Support via email, with no response.  Any and all suggestions will be most appreciated.

      Thank you!

What OS do you have on your PC's? Are you making sure the nook is awake when you connect it to the computer? Have you tried other USB ports on either compters?

I'm running Windows XP.  Yes, wide awake!  Tried them all.  Now what?

Have you tried another mini usb cable?  When you connect it - go into safely remove devices and see if you see it there. also check device manager - right click my computer and go to manage. Then click device manager and see if you see it there. Sometimes flash drives, external HD etc use the drive letters that the Nook wants and don't release them. If you see it in devices there check to see what drvie letter it wants.

Do you mean it did not mount on the desktop, and the NC screen did not show it was in USB mass storage mode?  I just ask because, well, all it really will ever do is just stare at you.  It does not syncronize with the desktop or laptop, or via the computer with your B&N online library.  The USB connection is for side-loading material onto the device, which is an active user process, not an automatic one.  Once connected, it should show up as a mass storage device on your computer, but nothing else happens until or unless you make it happen (eg. drag and drop files, use ADE to authorize and side load DRM material, or overdrive to load a library book - all things you interactively do).
