    ADE not recognizing HD

    JinSC

Got my HD over the weekend.  tonight I tried to transfer a public library book from my PC to my HD.  I first tried it with USB connectivity set to MTP.  I plugged in my HD, opened ADE, but the device was never shown.  I checked and in Explorer, it showed that BNTV400 was connected.  I switced to PTP, same result.  powered them both down and back up, still in PTP, nada.  Disconnected HD, switched back to MTP and still nothing.

I did register the HD under Account Settings with my Adobe username and password.  Even without that, ADE should have seen it and asked for it to be activated.  Any help would be appreciated.

      Peace,

      Jeremy

Don't bother with ADE. Go to the library on your HD and download it directly to your device. If you have the overdrive app, it will pop open and handle the ADE for you. You can also use OD to go to your library, browse for books, and borrow it and download it all in the app.  Overdrive also works to get drm'd books from other sites like Kobo, etc onto your device. It will pop up when you go to d/l from other sites if the book is DRM's and handle it for you. THe only bad part is the books stay in OD and don't show up in your regular library. That is one advantage of ADE for sideloaded books, but for library books, OD is all you need.

Thank, Compulsivereader, but the thing is, I like the Reader in the OS better than Overdrive.  The availability of the dictionary, for one thing.

I did finally solve the problem.  digging through some other posts, apparently the ADE program, even the latest version, does not recognize the HD when it is plugged in, either in MTP or PTP modes.  However, all is not lost.  In Windows 7

              1) Dowload book from public library to ADE on PC.

              2) Open Explorer>Libraries>Documents>My Digital Editions

              ALTERNATELY:Computer>Local disc C>Users>Name>My Documents>My Digial Editions

              3) Drag and drop or Copy to folder.  I selected My Files>Books on the HD

              4) Disconnect HD.  Open My Files>Books.  Find book.  Press and hold, and Add to Home.

              Peace,

              Jeremy

Thanks for the info.  I did find if you add the sideloaded books to a shelf, they show up in Books.
