    Email keeps reloading inbox!

      OK I upgraded my NC to 1.4.1 today. Now every time I read messages in my inbox and go back to the inbox listing, it removes and reloads all of the messages from the server, marking them all unread again. Gah! What's up with this thing?

              I emailed tech support. I received a quick reply which said to de-register, then re-register which would redo all my books and apps. Then to call them if that doesn't fix it. I feel suspicious that this might be a canned response... Anyone else done the de-reg and re-reg? Is it relatively painless?

              This is happening to me as well. Looks like it is a glitch with the new update.

              I was wandering if others were having the same problem.

                Well. I reckon this evening I may bite the bullet and do the un-reg, re-reg and see what happens (besides losing and having to reconstruct all my bookshelves, personal settings, and app settings, etc).

                      Don't bother. I tried it. It doesn't work. Same thing happens.

                              • My "delete email from server" setting is "Never". Even if I try to change it, it reverts to "Never". However, if I delete an email on my NC, it actually does delete off the server (even though this parameter continues to say "Never").
                              • Suppose I have a bunch of emails on the server and I pull them down in the email client. In my case, the email client does a good job being in sync with what is actually active (not deleted) on the server. If I read an email, then click the "back" button to go back to the list, the email program clears the inbox and re-reads all of them again from the server marking all of them unread, even the one I just read. Even if I read all of them (using the up/down arrow whilst reading them) then go "back" to the list, it will initially show them all read, but then clear (automatically) and reload from server, marking all of them unread.

                                  This is a common problem with Road Runner due to their email servers being in a Round Robin load sharing situation.  This will happen on my home system as well due to the statement leave a copy on server that I have checked on my Windows systems.  Sometimes one of the system you delete on has not yet synchronized with the other servers in the round robin causing duplicate copies to be sent.  I have found if you wait for all emails to download into the inbox before deleting any of them, and then delete them this will usually allow their email servers to sync up.  At least this works on my PC.  I would think the same principal would apply here.  I also uncheck the leave a copy on server periodically in order to clear the que on the server farm of backlogged emails.  It usually takes at least 20 minutes to get things to synch up right.

                                    I am having the same problem. Just started today. Keeps reloading emails even after deleting them. My email is through comcast. Thank for looking into this.

                                      I am having same problem. Spoke to customer service. Told me delete my email account and then set up account again. This worked yesterday but today it is back to reloading all emails. I have comcast. This has never happened before the update. Please help.

                                  Ok this is weird.... it seems to be working this morning. Never has before. Although the "delete from server" setting is still stuck on "Never" even though it does indeed delete from server when I delete locally.

                                        I'm using sbcglobal.net and am having the same problem since the new update. Damn programers. Don't they know, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!!!!

                                        Has anyone come up with a solution to fix this nasty bug? I have a Gmail account as well but so far have not added that to my Nook Email accounts. Until it is fixed I'm not going to complicate matters.

                                        As far as this email program goes I did have a problem early on that has nothing to do with ths update.

                                        I was deleting emails right and left and thinking nothing of it until one day I finally got a message that my mailbox was full and I couldn't get any more email. I was flabbergasted because I thought that whenever my server was cleaned out by me Thunderbird which I use on my home computer, that the Nook deleted the email and I didn't have any worries. WRONG!!!!! Anything in the Trash was not deleted. So I have a couple a hundred emails in the trash that I had to go in and MANUALLY mark and delete before I could finally get the sucker to work again. There should be an option to delete trash on exit or after so many days. Need to get the programer working....

                                            Yes, the NC email program is apparently an adaptation of an Android email client that appears to be, for lack of a better word, stupid. No trash handling options (like, please empty the trash). I have requested an enhancement for 1.5 to include some kind of trash handling option.

                                          My email also keeps reloading; I would love to send a PM to Alex but his profile is private and I don't have his address.  If anyone else has it or can tell me where to find it, please let me know.  I'm sure its probably right in front of me but I drove over 200 miles today and had 2 back to back meetings with 2 different state agencies and my brain is fried.  Thanks in advance!

                                            Yikes! My inbox is totally schizophrenic. It was actually working again properly about an hour ago and even just a minute ago. I got a new message, read it, went back to the list, and now it's back to refreshing the entire list again. I can't make sense out of when it will work and when it won't... bizarre.

                                                I am seeing the same behavior with the same provider (Rochester roadrunner)

                                                Please keep us updated 'cause my wife is going insane from having to constantly delete the same emails over and over again and having mail she wants to keep go missing.

                                                Does the extended warrantee cover damage from PMS rage?

                                                    This email thing is making me nuts.  I use my Nook to check email everyday and now I can't!  Does B&N realize what a pain this is?  I've emailed them and called and get the same answer.  Turn off, unregister, delete email account.  Nothing works.  I love my Nook  and had no problems with anything until this upgrade.  What is going to be done about this?

                                                      I too have been having bizarre email issues since updating to v1.4 software.  When I delete an email, it goes into the "loading" mode and then the deleted email reappears in my inbox.  Emails that I've read also get "re-loaded" as unread.  The little envelope icon on the bottom left corner keeps popping up that I have new email, when in fact, it's just the deleted emails reloading.

                                                       

                                                      I have PM'd Alex.  Hope B&N gets this resolved PRONTO!

                                                          I received my Nook today and have some Android experience but am having a hard time figuring out what is happening with my email.  Keeps reloading, even disappearing and trying to keep my smartphone going alongside of it.  I use Comcast and am using the same settings but cannot get the "delete email from server" to stick...

                                                           

                                                          Also, the loading messages sign seems to take forever.  Delete doesn't always mean delete and move to trash doesn't always move it.  If I sound confused I am as I have been going round and round for several hours.  I just got a message on the Nook and the smartphone...deleted the Nook one.  It remained in the inbox but also showed up in trash. Took the one in the inbox and moved it to trash so now 2 are there...

                                                           

                                                          I would like to keep this but it's really too quirky and will return it to HSN if it isn't straightened out soon.

                                                              So is there a answer yet? Its a pain to be viewing my list of emails then have the list disapear and then reload emails that I just deleted. My web browser will also crash randomly while reading a article. New problems since the update.

                                                                I agree with the post "if its not broke don't fix it! I cannot change my setting from "never" on the delete from server setting. I also hate the click the nook button for home idea. My button is no longer covered under warranty. Why doesn't nook ask its customers what they want in a update change?

                                                                    This is also happening to me. I use pop3 and have 2 msn accounts and 1 hotmail. I've deleated all and they reappear, and it keeps loading. There were no problems with this before I upgraded.                                                                         I did manually delete all the stuff stored in the trash, as it just kept piling up. It has stayed away. I have also used the recommendation of one of you below who said that for the short term if you leave the inbox in combined accounts that it will let you read your email and not reload.

                                                                         

                                                                        This is working for me. As long as I keep in in combined accounts I can read a message and return to the list of messages without it continuing to try to reload and freezing. But if you check on specific account then go to combined accounts, I've found it will let you read the email on all but the one you checked initially. Then I power the nook off, go into email and into combined accounts and it will work on all.

                                                                         

                                                                        Hopefully this gets fixed soon, it is a real pain!

                                                                        I'm having the same email issue with constant reloading of previously viewed emails as well as reloading deleted emails. Emptying the trash bin of the deleted emails doesn't work either as they just reappear there as well. I have verizon email. This problem only began after the upgrade to 1.4; email worked fine with 1.3 and 1.2. And I never had to set the option to delete from server for it to work previously. And choosing that option now doesn't work anyway for me as it keeps switching off anyway. Very frustrating and it's not as though there's another email app available from the bn apps store. Hope the email issue gets fixed soon.

                                                                          This just started to happen to me a few days ago, even though it's been weeks since I loaded the new software (though I wasn't using it much due to the holidays, so the glitch could've been there for awhile). My main problem is with the constant reloading of the inbox. Sometimes I'd be in the middle of reading an e-mail and it would reload and take me back to the inbox page. Every time it reloads I have to wait 30 seconds or so before it's done and I can open another e-mail. Delete isn't as big a deal, but sometimes I have to delete the same e-mail several times before it sticks. I have sbcglobal.net - not sure if that matters. It was never a problem before. Please fix soon - e-mail is what I mainly use the NC for and this is getting irritating.

                                                                            Great to finally find this thread!  I have been having the same problem since the 1.4 upgrade...is there a way to disable the notifications so that the envelope doesn't keep popping up?  It gets very frustrating!

                                                                                Under settings in your mail app, check the option never where it has you pick how often to check for new mail/updates. Then you just do it manually when you want to check Email.

                                                                                    I did this and it didn't work for this problem - at least for me. It looks like there's some glitch with the update that the programmers are going to have to sort out - hopefully soon.

Anyway, the email inbox keeps reloading. I tried setting the check for email to never, but that had no effect. I hope BN gets it fixed soon. I also hope they finally get and empty trash can option.

                                                                                            I agree on both counts! Fix reloads and give us a Empty the Trash button.

                                                                                            Everytime I delete an email from the NT, they keep comping back to "hunt me". I do have to my laptops, open Hotmail and then delete my emails from there.

                                                                                            I am having the same problems since updating the Nook Color.  I am using Centurytel (Centurylink) for my email.  I have since set my nook to never automatically check for new emails and will keep watch of this thread for a permanent fix.

                                                                                              I'm glad to find this thread (so I know I'm not crazy), but it seems this has been a problem for a long time with no fix.  What do we need to do to get BN to fix the issue?

                                                                                                  Sorry...I'm new to this blog thing.  Looks like this issue is only about a month old.  That gives me hope that maybe the programmers will provide a fix soon.

                                                                                                    I am assuming B&N is working on it. They don't make a habit of giving running status of development work on features or bug fixes. I think that's fairly standard fare for a tech company (not go provide internal development status information, since it's proprietary to the company). I suspect (or perhaps "hope") that when 1.4.2 comes out, or whatever the next version is, that he problem will be fixed since it's been reported by a lot of people. Their firmware releases tend to be just a few months between. So, a little patience and we'll see what happens...

                                                                                                    Do you not care that your current customer base is extremely frustrated?  Do you not care that your product can no longer be recommended by current owners?  Are you too busy seeking a buyer for the Nook portion of B&N that you've given up supporting the very products that have kept you in the game?   In the back of my mind, I'd assumed that I would upgrade to  Nook Tablet this spring.  Now....I'm checking into the Kindle Fire.  Why not?  It can't be any more aggravating than the pitiful response B&N has show to this pervasive issue.

                                                                                                        Luckily for me, using my nook color for email is more of a travel email reader and I can avoid the issue by simply reading *and-deleting* my email with my computer and not use the app on my nook color.

                                                                                                         

                                                                                                        This is one glaring example of a problem--that's also seen with other apps--that could be resolved much more quickly if the apps were not built into the OS and OS updates. It'd be so much easier for B&N to debug and update individual apps that are misbehaving rather than having to incorporate app revisions into the overall next major OS release. The apps built into the OS and OS updates (like email, chess, sudoku, crossword) can't be deleted or archived by users who want them gone. I can't remember ever having a "update available" for one of these built-in apps although I may be wrong here.

                                                                                                         

                                                                                                        I agree though, that as long as the deleted emails are reloading issue continues, as it's doing for you and me, the email app is close to useless.

                                                                                                         

                                                                                                        Especially for those of us with the earlier nook colors who have the original partitioning, there's a fairly small number of total apps that can be installed--and by forcing folks to have apps like crossword/sudoku/etc that we may never use, it eventually may limit the number of apps that we can install.

                                                                                                        I called B&N tech support yet again this morning (1-800-THE-BOOK.....please call and register your complaint too......the squeaky wheel gets the grease.....).

                                                                                                         

                                                                                                        Anyhow, per "Bob" (popular name in India!  sorry for the snarkiness....coffee hasn't kicked in yet), B&N is well aware of this issue and plans to release a software update correcting the problem.  "Bob", of course, couldn't give me an estimate of the time in which this update will occur.

                                                                                                            Yes this issue is irritating, however those that think when an programming error is detected and be easily resolved & implemented has never worked in a software development/production environment - it's not all that simple and the larger the company the larger the install base, the more complex it becomes. Collecting the data and ascertaining the issue is just the beginning.

                                                                                                             

                                                                                                            Yes everything in the device should work correctly, however first & foremost this is an E-Reader with additional apps to satisfy end-users - so when it all comes down to it, it's an E-Reader. The other apps it has are "gravy" - nice to have.

                                                                                                             

                                                                                                            If email isn't working correctly, I'm sure it will be fixed - might have to wait till their next update to roll it out as it has to be updated on hundreds of thousands of devices and done correctly or a simple issue as this will create a monumental crisis. It’s not just pushing a button and fixing it which is what many people believe. If accessing email is important, then use a PC/MAC or a Smartphone if having email access is of paramount importance. Email on the Nook device is a "cute" convenience, but should not be the end all of email access.

                                                                                                                    Having the same problem but only from my ATT account. So far my gmail account is Ok. Unfortunately this is my default account. Seeting given to me by ATT are:

I tried to change it to delete when I delete from inbox. I am unable to do this. All I get is a message,"Checking server settings." Looks like something is happening but it's not as I have been getting the same message for 10 minutes. I can get to my ATT mail by going to the ATT website. How do I remove this account from my Nook until the problem is fixed? The constant notifications are driving me nuts!

                                                                                                                        I'm having the same issue.  BUT also notice that the only emails I can open are the ones with TEXT ONLY. Any email that has images or HTML will continuously clock and not load.  This needs to be fixed.

                                                                                                                            Have changed my settings to "never check for incoming" & turned off notifications. Still reloads every time I read a message & reverts back to "unread". Unable to change settings for 'delete email from server." Whenever I try and change ANY setting related to incoming it goes into "Checking incoming server setting..." & just hangs there. Can't cancel out or check "Ok." to exit. Have to totally shut down Nook to get out of this lookp. Also notice my settings for security had changed from SSL to None. I never touched it! Have 2 accounts & same thing happens. Went into to trash bins and manually deleted the deletions as appears there is no way to empty trash. De-registering & re-installing everything is a cop out "get them off the phone" solution & does not solve the problem. Also, while reading your mail from your web based account is a work-around if this is what has to be done to read your email why bother having an email app?

                                                                                                                             

                                                                                                                            Can't believe more people have not complained. Mustt be because a lot of people never even try to set up email or are not computer savvy enough to  know this is not "normal." Tablet users also have this problem & I don't know how you can call something a Tablet when it can't handle a function as basic as email. This  is not a "user error" brought on by improper settings & best to admit & fix it pronto instead of giving customer the run-around & inconvenienceing then with "fixes" that serve no purpose except to temporary remove them from the support que. Sorry for the rant, but I'm really annoyed!

                                                                                                                      After months of frustration because B&N has failed to support its product (I have a Nook Color), I finally broke down and bought a Nook2Android 16GB Rooted Micro SD card from the seller "Android4Nook" on eBay.  I think it was around $35.  This allowed me to "root" my NC without changing anything on in the actual NC itself (supposedly not voiding any warranty).  I now use my NC like it's an Android and have no issues with email.  The biggest drawback to doing this is that you have to reboot to switch back to the Nook side.  But at least I can fully utilize my email and not have it constantly reloading and driving me nuts.  Using this SD card also gives me the ability to use the Android Market to find other apps.   This is a very simple thing and even a non-techie like myself had no problems slipping the SD card in its slot and "presto chango", my Nook Color works as an Android. (The SD card came with very clear instructions.)

                                                                                                                       

                                                                                                                      I remain disillusioned with B&N and by no means am happy with my NC and their latest version of the software.  I would much rather have spent that $35 at B&N for NookBooks and apps for my NC.   Again, all I can say is shame on B&N for failing its customer base and ignoring this issue.

                                                                                                                        Check you settings for processing your email.  On some servers, you must change the setting to remove the email from server after download.  Otherwise, it keeps going back to the server and fetching your mail again.

                                                                                                                            I don't want to delete it from the server when retrieving on my Nook Color, so this isn't a good solution for me. It is not a server behavior issue, but an email application behavior problem. The client should not try to re-retrieve the email it has already retrieved, whether it's still on the server or not. Before 1.4.1 upgrade, this all worked fine. See earlier posts in this long thread for details.

                                                                                                                              I had v1.4.2 installed,

                                                                                                                              I lost my whole list of emails when I tried to open one up to read.

                                                                                                                              screen flashed then the list disappeared. Also it's slow on loading

                                                                                                                              an email to read. Takes a minute before it shows up. 

                                                                                                                               

                                                                                                                              Went back to v1.3 and used Roustabout's procedure in preventing

                                                                                                                              the nook from updating.

I was on rooted 1.2, with a modified prop build saying I was running 1.4.1...which didn't stop the 1.4.2 update.                                                                                                                                             Looked into it futher. I don't think bobstro's option will work. Will work only on a rooted nook.

                                                                                                                                            Just wondering if clockworks mod can be used to modify this db file in stock nook.

                                                                                                                                        Still having problem with email even after latest update. The emails never delete the first time. I have to delete them several times before they are really deleted. Sometimes i get two identical emails after i delete it. This a little annoying.
