This should be the last of the May offerings from Tyndale House, so B&N's finally caught up.

          Two Wars [Tyndale House]

          From the Publisher

Former army ranger Nate Self, a hero from the Robert’s Ridge rescue in Afghanistan, tells his whole story—from the pulse-pounding battle in the mountains of Afghanistan to the high-stakes battle he has waged against post traumatic stress disorder. This book will become a go-to book for understanding the long-term effects of the war on terror. Thousands of families are fighting this battle, and Nate opens up his life—including his successes, tragedies, struggles with thoughts of suicide—to show how his faith and his family pulled him through.

          In a nutshell:

          • Excellent book for military familes trying to cope with the family pressures of a soldier's active duty.
          • Inspirational book for a soldier struggling with post traumatic stress disorder.
          • Helps readers understand the importance of faith in dealing with the war.
          • An up-close-and-personal account of the war on terror; and the story of one soldier’s faith.
          • An insider’s account of Robert’s Ridge Rescue in Afghanistan.

This is the first freebie from Thomas Nelson this year. I hope it means we'll be seeing more from them.

            Traveling Light [Thomas Nelson]

            From the Publisher

Weary travelers. You've seen them-everything they own crammed into their luggage. Staggering through terminals and hotel lobbies with overstuffed suitcases, trunks, duffels, and backpacks. Backs ache. Feet burn. Eyelids droop. We've all seen people like that. At times, we are people like that-if not with our physical luggage, then at least with our spiritual load. We all lug loads we were never intended to carry. Fear. Worry. Discontent. No wonder we get so weary. We're worn out from carrying that excess baggage. Wouldn't it be nice to lose some of those bags? That's the invitation of Max Lucado. With the Twenty-third Psalm as our guide, let's release some of the burdens we were never intended to bear.

            The Great House of God:

God's greatest desire is to be your dwelling place. Using the Lord's Prayer as a floor plan for The Great House of God, Max Lucado introduces us to a God who desires his children to draw close to him. Warm your heart by the fire in the living room. Nourish your spirit in the kitchen. Step into the hallway and find forgiveness. No house is more complete, no foundation is more solid. So come into the house built just for you-The Great House of God.

Thanks so much for finding this free ebook! As a Marine mom of a son getting ready to go though yet another deployment, it is so helpful to read stories of what our men and women of the military go through during war, and also when they get home.

In all of the activity, I missed getting One Lucky Cowboy onto the list yesterday. It's from Sourcebooks, so it won't stay here long.

We've picked up a couple of non-fiction titles that were free elsewhere, and the Kensington titles are already back to full price.

I'm just listing the titles, without the covers. You can mouse over the title to see the cover if you want.

I've put the publisher's name in [brackets], which might give you a clue about the content. Zondervan, Tyndale House, Thomas Nelson, NavPress, Baker, and Abingdon are Christian-oriented publishers. Samhain titles tend to have adult content.

                        Hi gang,

In honor of the 75th anniversary of its publication, Fodor’s is re-issuing their very first travel guide: 1936-On the Continent. Eugene Fodor—a bon vivant and future CIA operative—created1936-On the Continent as a narrative European guide book focusing on the culture and personality for each destination.

If you’re a reader who loves a window to the past, this is an incredibly fun and satisfying read. The lively writing brings pre-World War II Europe to life, and highlights both the similarities and differences between then and now. Fascinating era-specific tips include:

“I know that in the Kaiser’s day there was a definite feeling in Germany against the English, though this had no political foundation, it was simply we did not understand each other.  Now, however, … this has completely disappeared… for every German seeks the friendship of every Englishman…”

On the Continent is also packed with black and white travel ads, which add contemporary flavor.

I would highly recommend  THE SHEPARD by Ethan Cross. Though I see it is no longer free it was an excellent book for a first time author.

                            Free Friday up, it's

                            Four Corners of the Sky

                            Synopsis

For the first time since Handling Sin, a riveting novel of love, secrets, and the mysterious bonds of family, from master author Michael Malone.

The Washington Post - Michael Dirda

This is a fabulously entertaining novel. It's probably a trifle too long, the plot contains a number of improbabilities and it's easy enough to guess at least a couple of the revelations toward the book's end. But you know what? None of this matters. Michael Malone's prose—as smooth as a con man's patter—hooks you on the first page, and you're not going anywhere after that, except to your favorite reading chair or backyard hammock or vacation beach blanket. Malone possesses the only gift—according to Vladimir Nabokov—that a writer really needs: Shamantsvo, the ability to cast a spell, to enchant.

One of the most beloved novelists of the New South, Michael Malone has been called America s Dickens for his vivid characters and strong comic comentaries evident in novels like Handling Sin and Foolscap.

Maura Sullivan never intended to set foot in Granger, Ohio, again. But when circumstances force her to return, she must face all the disappointments she tried so hard to leave behind: a husband who ignored her, a congregation she couldn’t please, and a God who took away everything she ever loved. Nick Shepherd thought he had put the past behind him, until the day his estranged wife walked back into town. Intending only to help Maura through her crisis of faith, Nick finds his feelings for her never died. Now, he must admit the mistakes he made, how he hurt his wife, and find a way to give and receive forgiveness. As God works in both of their lives, Nick and Maura start to believe they can repair their broken relationship and reunite as man and wife. But Maura has one more secret to tell Nick before they can move forward. It’s what ultimately drove her to leave him six years earlier, and the one thing that can destroy the fragile trust they’ve built.

An Expose on Teen Sex and Dating

After interviewing thousands of teens, author Andy Braner put it all down on paper in a straight-talk approach to teen sex and dating. Revealing some startling statistics, he explains to parents and youth pastors what the current situation is with teens and sex, how we got here, and where the current out-of-control sex-driven culture is leading us. Readers will find out how to reach teens with a biblical message on dating, sexual promiscuity, purity, and redemption. Are you worried about your teenagers and how they’re going to survive the current dating scene? According to the Journal of Sexual Medicine, 63 percent of teenagers are sexually active before they leave high school; 87 percent are active before they leave college. So how do we reach this generation of teens with a biblical answer to dating, sexting, and hooking up? If you work with teenagers or are a parent of teenagers and see the devastation of out-of-control sexual promiscuity—or have no clue that any of this is going on—then you need to read this book. Andy Braner, a youth minister who speaks to teens all over the nation, will help you understand the current dating scene and the teen thought process on sex and dating. He’ll also provide you with tools and solutions for building relationships with teenagers as well as show you how to teach true intimacy, purity, redemption, and integrity in dating.

                                    Song of Renewal

Song of Renewal received glowing acclaim upon its hardcover release. Now Emily Sue Harvey has dramatically expanded this extraordinarily touching work to allow us to experience its riches at new levels. The Wakefields seem to have everything. Garrison is a hugely successful graphic artist. Liza is an active member of the community and a patron of the arts. Their 16-year-old daughter Angel is bright beautiful and a gifted dancer. At the same time though they have traded away many of their dreams. Garrison gave up a future as an accomplished painter to make money. Liza suspended her own dancing career to raise a family. And Angel is setting aside her ambitions to live her mother’s dream. When Angel gets into a car accident that kills her first love the Wakefields’ lives turn on a dime. While Angel lies in a coma from which even the best prognosis is devastating Garrison and Liza sit by her side their once-passionate marriage in tatters. As their heartache over Angel builds Garrison and Liza struggle to rediscover who they once were—and who they were meant to be. They come to realize that it will take everything they have within themselves to heal Angel heal their hearts and renew the power of their love. At once romantic inspiring and empowering Song of Renewal is a rare bauble of a novel one with something to say to every family.

When the ground shakes, and a poor nation’s economy is destroyed; when the waters rise, washing away a community’s hopes and dreams; when a child suffers neglect and abuse; when violence tears apart nations; where is God?  If God is all powerful, and if each one of us is a beloved child of God, then how can God allow tragedy and suffering to infest his creation? When we lift our prayers to God, and no answer seems to come; when we earnestly seek to know the will of God for our lives, yet can't seem to discern it; when God seems far away; where is God? If God counts the hairs on our head, and knows every sparrow that falls, why is finding and understanding God's will so difficult at times? In Why? Making Sense of God's Will best-selling author Adam Hamilton brings fresh insight to the age-old question of how to understand the will of God.
