      • 390. Note about The Black God's War

        Hi everyone,

Just a note about "The Black God's War", it is the first 15 chapters of a 21 chapter novel and a Smashwords title.

        Here is the description:

Her father-king wants war. Her messianic brother wants peace. The black god wants his due. She suffers all the consequences. King Vieri's war against the lands of Pawelon rages on; with the kingdom's holy savior, his son, en route to the fighting in the storied desert canyon, victory ought to come soon ...

I found this information in the review section of this book.

        Message from the author:

This novella is over 25,000 words and it presents 15 of the early chapters of an epic fantasy novel by the same title (The Black God's War) currently scheduled for release in May 2011. The full novel is about five times longer than the novella. This novella is a free introduction to the upcoming novel and it's meant to be an enjoyable read on its own. Some people might prefer to wait for the full version, though.

            Lot's Return to Sodom

            Publisher: Greenleaf Book Group, LLC

            Sold By: Barnes & Noble

Format: NOOK Book (eBook) , 328pp

            Series: A Liv Bergen Mystery

            File Size: 3137 KB

            From Website:

The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is no place for button-downed citizens-unless they're trying to hide a murder

Sharp-witted Liv Bergen can't avoid becoming embroiled in murders, it seems. Her family's hometown of Sturgis, South Dakota, is quickly becoming the Sodom of the Black Hills during the dog days of summer as it hosts the infamous rally of grizzled hard-core motorcycle bikers-half a million of them. Crime comes too close for comfort when Liv must solve the mystery of a beautiful young townie to clear her brother's name.

Liv witnesses the vile death of another young woman, and during her investigation of both crimes she attracts the uninvited attentions of the menacing leader of Lucifer's Lot-the baddest of the bad biker gangs. Her quick wit and pragmatic thinking are all that stands between her and certain elimination.

FBI agent Streeter Pierce is back on the trail, working undercover to find the murderer and a shadow criminal called the Crooked Man. When he and Liv cross paths, sparks are flying, literally.

Fans of the amateur sleuth's adventures will find this second book in the Liv Bergen series-the sequel to In the Belly of Jonah-an even deeper mystery, with greater consequences for their heroine.

Anne Frasier has released a few of her older books for free via smashwords. Is it just me or is this becoming a trend with authors as of late? The add product button isnt working on my computer right now...that whole row is gone right now (o.0) but I will edit and add the books from my nook (because its working from there) and then finish the details on my computer again. Please bear with me while I do this, It may take a few seconds. On a side note, I would like to thank Pinky for getting things in order and bringing back structure to the thread. It flows much more nicely now and not so many off topic posts anymore. I am convinced that this thread just needed another "parent" to keep it in line. Again, thank you Pinky for adopting this child. Edit: Can someone add them for me...my computer is not wanting to cooperate and has talked my nook into a mutiny.

Criminal profiler Ivy Dunlap is an expert at unraveling the psyches of the most dangerous men alive. She understands the killer instinct. But even Ivy has her limits. And the Madonna Murderer will test them...

                  Publishers Weekly:

Few serial killers penned by suspense writers today are as warped or as fully realized as the Madonna Murderer, who preys on newborn baby boys and their unwed mothers. As if the crime itself isn't bad enough, the killer leaves a musical snow globe that plays "Hush, Little Baby" in the infant's crib as his calling card. It has been nearly two decades since Ivy Dunlap and her infant son were victimized by the Madonna Murderer. Unbeknownst to the killer, Ivy survived the assault. Her baby didn't. Now a respected criminal psychologist, Ivy is called into service by the Chicago P.D. when the killer resurfaces after 16 years of dormancy. Her personal interest in the case takes on a sharper edge when she learns that her partner, Detective Max Irving, has a son named Ethan who is the same age her child would have been had he survived. When Ivy tries to rattle the Madonna Murderer by publishing a "dead-baby letter" in the newspaper, the killer becomes more daring; he befriends Ethan, sends Ivy a chunk of his skin bearing a tattoo and expands his profile of victims. Although some readers may be turned off by the novel's graphic nature, a wealth of procedural detail, a heart-thumping finale and two scarred but indelible protagonists make this a first-rate debut. (May 7) Forecast: Although the front cover features a rather generic, blurry sketch of a graveyard, the back cover reads like a who's-who of romantic suspense authors. Enthusiastic blurbs from Jayne Ann Krentz, Lisa Gardner and Kay Hooper should give this thriller a running start. Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information.

                      by Scott O'Connor

                      (F+W Media Inc.)

A year has passed since Lucy Darby's sudden and unexpected death, leaving her husband David and son Whitley to mend the gaping hole in their lives and carry on.

David, a trauma-site cleanup technician, spends his nights expunging the violent remains of strangers, opting to help others move on with their lives while he is unable to do the same.

Whitley — a social pariah known simply as The Kid — hasn't spoken for the better part of a year. Instead, he communicates through a growing collection of notebooks, living in a safer world of his own silent imagining.

As the impending arrival of Y2K casts a shadow of uncertainty around them, their own precarious reality begins to implode. Questions pertaining to the events of Lucy's death begin to haunt David, and he slowly begins to lose his grip on reality. On top of that, The Kid believes that his mother is still alive and out there somewhere waiting to come home.

Enlisting the help of his misfit friends from school, he devises a plan to send her a message and bring her back. As David descends further into madness and The Kid's sense of urgency grows, they are sent hurtling toward a stunning conclusion that will force both of them to confront reality.

I suspect this one might be a perennial. From what I can tell, this was originally written as a promotion for the then-upcoming TV series.

Freaks (A Rizzoli & Isles Short Story) [Random House] (short story)

In this free Rizzoli & Isles short story from New York Times bestselling author Tess Gerritsen, author of The Silent Girl, a bizarre death comes with a supernatural twist.

Homicide cop Jane Rizzoli and medical examiner Maura Isles have seen their fair share of mortal crimes, but the death of Kimberly Rayner may qualify as inhuman in more ways than one. When corpse of the emaciated seventeen-year-old girl is discovered next to an empty coffin in an abandoned church, mysterious bruises around the throat suggest foul play.

Caught fleeing the scene is the victim's closest friend, Lucas Henry, an equally skeletal, pale teenager who claims he's guilty only of having a taste for blood-a craving he shared with Kimberly. But the victim's distraught father doesn't believe in vampires, only vengeance. And now, another life may be at risk unless Rizzoli and Isles can uncover the astonishing truth.

Includes a special preview of Tess Gerritsen's new Rizzoli & Isles novel, The Silent Girl...
