    I have installed the 2.1.0 update and . . .

. . . for the first time in the last three system updates, it did not lock out all of my BN content and user profiles forcing a system wipe.  That's a step in the right direction.  Haven't had a chance to thoroughly check out the rest of the update, but Chrome will be a welcomed replacement to the stock nook browser.

      More info to come.

Congratulations! As a Nook Tablet owner I won't be able to take advantage of that, but I'm sure happy for you! :smileyhappy:

Except that I now have to find and recreate my bookmarks.

You can go to your browser settings and import them. I didn't get all of them but close.  I  haven't found a way to set a homepage yet.

              • Re: I have installed the 2.1.0 update and . . .

Did the update about a half hour ago on my Nook HD. Went very smoothly, don't have to re-download or reset anything, and I can choose what apps I want on it from the Play store webpage from my laptop.

I'm running 3DMark on it right now. :smileyhappy:

Nowhere near as fast as a PC, but it's pretty on the HD's screen.

                So far so good!

I installed the new update and it wiped out 400+ bookmarks!!!  I am NOT a happy camper at the moment.  I don't normally rant in this site but this just makes me sick.  It would have been nice if B & N would have said what the update would do.

                      • Re: I have installed the 2.1.0 update and . . .

Try importing your bookmarks. It won't get them all, but whatever it does get is a bookmark you won't have to do again.

There is NO import anywhere in the bookmark area or anywhere else for that matter that I can find. In help it says go to bookmarks and click on import, but it's simply not there. Let me know if you find out where please? This is making me sick. I had 400+ story bookmarks I lost. I read online.

The bookmark option is for chrome not to port your old nook bookmarks.  All you do is sign into chrome and it will sync your chrome bookmarks accross devices.

Exactly.  I was using the Nook browser and all of those bookmarks are gone.

Open the chrome browser, then tap on the 3 squares at the top right, then tap on settings, then tap on the 3 squares at the top right again to get the import bookmarks option. Then tap on the option to import bookmarks from android device. I received a failed to import message, but then when I went to the bookmarks page, most of my prior HD bookmarks were there. I did have to re- enter some previously  saved passwords though.

I noticed that mine still appear on the home screens, if you haven't disabled it, when you long press to access widgets etc.

i did the import bookmarks and was given a "import bookmarks from android" or something similar to that. I chose that one and it did import most of my previous booksmarks.

Is there a way to get the old browser back, with the excellent readability plugin, short of rooting the device?  I'm not seeing it for download, though it's still installed in /system/app

One of the features of the Nook HD+ I liked most was that readability plugin in the browser - and I actually prefer (vastly) the various stock browsers I've used over chrome.

Don't bother asking Barnes and Noble. THey disconnect you from chat for asking. They don't want to live up to the fact this 2.1 roll out is a disaster that removes the features that made the Nook HD+ a premium e-reader. They must have decided to push the Nook HD+ as a tablet because they did a great job of removing the things that made me choose it over other tablet-like devices. So now, instead of being a leader of e-reader service, they've decided to be a "me too" tablet maker. I guess they saw more market share in the general consumer tablet market than in the e-reader market.

                                                            • Re: I have installed the 2.1.0 update and . . .

I disagree. For me, they added some badly needed functionality required by a decent reader, such as the ability to manage our library and use our sideloaded content more adequately through 3rd party apps such as Calibre Companion. Most of the complaints I am seeing don't really have a lot to do with the function of reading but are more tablet functions such as browsing and media.

I don't have any complaints other than they forgot to deal with the cloud books in the main library and moving them out of that view. I didn't lose my shelves and that's a step up from previous updates. Iguess I really do use my HD+ mostly as an ereader so I was thrilled to add the functions I felt were necessary.

Edit: and...it has been mentioned  numerous times how to import the bookmarks from before the update, in this and other threads in this forum.

                                                                • Re: I have installed the 2.1.0 update and . . .

If you do an upgrade, it should not gut the features that made you select the Nook HD+ over other tablets that have those features you mention. I am not happy thet forced Google Chrome on me and do not have an option to use their original browser, which IMHO, is more streamlined, more intuitive and has better featuers than Chrome. At least B&N had support and help files for that browser. They rolled out this without a single bit of user documentation.

Return party at Barnes & Noble tomorrow, who else is up for it??

Anyway, I don't root, I don't install crap, and yet after the update, device performance was slowed, and over a few days actually got to the point of literal uselessness. Example being I couldn't even drag the screen brightness slider, and everything would flash a message "X app has stopped responding. Wait or close."
A full reset, while inconvenient, has restored the device to its expected zippy-ness. Mentioning this so that others might not have to pine for the good old days of 1.0.

I went to settings and disabled as many of them as I though weren't necessary. I didn't want those apps in particular though I'm happy that others I did want are now available. I notice that I'm not having anything freeze on me now.

One says "Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped." The other one says "Unable to Install... This application was not able to install onto your device. Please remove some items from your Library and then download the application again."

I've only had this for a month and have not added very much. What is my next step?

When I tap it, nothing happens.  I have "chatted" with BN support three times on this issue.

First time, they just ended the chat session.  Second time, tech said it "slides across to let you know where you are in the magazine" - not so,there IS a slider that shows up when one taps the middle of the screen and it has nothing to do with the 'three stacked dots" as they do no move.  Last time, tech told me "this is an Adobe third-party app, you will have to contact Adobe to see find out it's purpose".

WTF?  I did not add this "app", it appeared with the 2.1.0 update.  I find it flabbergasting that BN support does not know what this icon is; or for that matter, don't really know everything about the Nook HD+.  Otherwise, they'd be able to answer my question.

My Accuweather Platinum lost the ability to view weather maps. Probably a conflict with Google Maps. Opened a ticket with Accuweather, we'll see what happens. I feel like I'm looking at a Google commercial when I look at my apps list. Wish we would have gotten an option as to which apps did we want. Wonder what it will be like when Microsoft takes over the NOOK product line.
