Same problem here.
I tried the manual install method, file transferred fine to internal storage, but after it went to sleep it never installed the update (waited 15 minutes).
I checked the internal storage folder, and the update file was gone. It was there before the device went to sleep.
Restart your device and computer and try it again.
Yeah thanks - that didn't work...
nookhdplus_2_1_update goes in then about thirty seconds or so later, just disappears.
Any ideas other than the old switch it off and switch it on again, as that was a bit of a chocolate kettle, sir.
When you connect your NOOK are you actually seeing its internal folders: "BN Downloads, etc" or just the mynook icon?
I followed these steps:
- Connect HD+ to my computer and see MY NOOK listed
- Open INTERNAL STORAGE section where I see all other folders as mentioned above
- Move ***UPDATE.NPK to the internal storage section
- Let the transfer complete and see update file listed in internal storage
- Disconnect HD+ from computer
- Wait 30 minutes (HD+ sleeps)
- Wake it and check update; nada
- Reconnect HD+ and check for update file ???
Now I realize I should have copied the update file to my HD+ The download to my computer is a long process!
Have tried multiple times on my PC and my MAC and no dice using either computer. Update file downloads fine to both computers (~415MB)
MAC says: Finder can't complete the operation [copy] because some of the data in "nook_2_1_update.npk" can't be read or written. (Error code -36)
Win7: [USB as MTP] File copies and shows up in the Internal folder. And then it disappears-- confirmed via Win7 file explorer and a side-loaded file manager on the Nook HD.
When examining the Internal folder, there are also the following files:
I am having problems downloading the new 2.1 update as well. I am using Windows 7 and it does download to my Nook but just sits there as a file rather than actually opening up and updating my Nook itself. I tried it on both my desktop and my laptop but the same problem occurs on both computers. I have restarted my Nook as well as my computers but still can't download.
I had the same problem as many of you after trying to do the update manually by downloading it to my PC and then copying the file to my Nook drive. It never would start the update. I was made aware after contacting Nook support that you don't have to download it to your PC if your Nook is connected to a wireless network. All you need to do is go to Settings, Device Information, and then click on Software Version. There is an option to "Check for updates". Once you click on that it will download the update to your Nook and immediately proceed to upgrade your Nook. Much easier and reliable than downloading through the PC.
Just completed my update. I was pleasantly surprised that it went so well.
In case it helps anyone esle, here's what I did.
- Downloaded the update file to my desktop (Windows 7 Enterprise x64, latest updates)
- Unmounted then removed my MicroSD card
- Connected the Nook HD to the machine (device was 98% charged when I connected)
- Opened Windows Explorer and opened up the BNTV400 device.
- Opened Internal Storage
- Dragged the update file and dropped into Internal Storage, making sure not to drop it on a folder.
One the file finished copying, the screen on the HDwent black, then the device rebooted, and the upgrade process ran. Took maybe 5 minutes or so.
Upon completion, my wallpaper, and libraries were all intact.
I reinserted my MicroSD card, and proceeded to check out the Play store.
I've already updated some of the stock Nook apps to the latest Android versions, and tried out the free version of Angry Birds. Even without the HD version, it's much prettier on the Nook Color than the Galaxy Tab 2.0 7".
I have no proof, but I think removing the MicroSD card before updating helped. The previous auto-updates that forced me to hard reset and redownload everything hapened while the card was in the device.
Hopefully that will help someone.
The over-the air update has been available for several hours. You do NOT need to connect your HD to a computer OR wait for the automatic over the air update. Just go to "settings" on your HD, then go to "Device Information", then tap on "Software version", then tap "check for updates". It's easy and fast...
I am having the same issue as the original poster. Using the over the air update is not an option for me. I have followed the directions at the support page for loading the update with no success. I have done this from 3 separate computer with the same results. The nook never recognizes the update file.
I also contacted support via the chat option. They were not at all helpful. Please, I'd really like to update my nook.
Edited: I was wrong! But FWIW, I drop update files in "MYNook" without expanding to "Internal storage". I don't know if it makes a difference, but worth a try anyway.
