    Nook Color Update Won"t Open or Unzip After download to the Device

       

      Well, Nook Color fans...I have tried repeatedly to get the new update on my Nook Color to unzip but it just won't do it...I have tried numerous times and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.  I follow the instructions on the B&N site to the tee....plop the zip file into the removable e drive...and wait and wait...nothing....I tend to think as someone wiho is not very technical that I'm doing something really simple really wrong...embarrassing...can anyone help?

          Is the removeable E drive your NookColor main drive, or your SD card (if you have an SD card) in the NookColor? Just checking...

           

          How long did you wait for it to take?

            Did you make sure to unmount the drive and disconnect the NC from your computer? You may have to wait awhile before your Nook detects the new software and reboots and installs.

              Had the same problem until I put the unzipped file at the root directory.  (E:\ )

                  Make sure to read and follow all the instructions on the update page.  Don't unzip it, put the file as is in the main directory of the NC-that's the directory where all the folders are.  Make sure you don't put it into any folder.  If you have followed all instructions then you might try what I had to do on the second NC I updated.  First NC worked fine.  Second one wouldn't update and the file kept disappearing.  So, I connected the NC to the PC and downloaded the file directly into the main directory of the NC as if it was a drive.  Then I ejected it and hit safely remove hardware, disconnected and it started to update when it went to sleep.

                      LOLOL..thanks deemure!!  I noticed this morning that I appear to be putting the zip file into the wrong directory - my sd card site.  In which case, the file won't open at all.  Thanks for your help.

                            The B&N installation instructions say explicitly not to unzip the file. The instructions are pretty clear that you're supposed to put it, as-is, the top of the NC directory structure.

                            So I followed the instructions as your said (moving the zip file to the root of E:, disconnected from my computer and have sat here waiting for 15 minutes with no results.  I also restared the NC and still haven't seen anything happen.  Is there something else that I need to do so that the NC will update?

                          Is the "e" drive your NC or the SD card in your NC?

                           

                          It MUST go in the drive that is the NC and it usually shows up as "NookColor" or something like that.

                            I am having this same issue for the newest software update and was looking for some information about how to fix it. I had already tried everything else suggested here, and my update was still not installing... My NC had been on all day (I usually just put it to sleep instead of actually shutting it down), so I tried turning it off and turning it back on, and that did the trick!  Once it turned back on, the update started installing immediately.  So for anyone still experiencing this issue with the newer updates, this might be worth a try!

                              I'm also having the same problem.  Using a Mac desktop & was able to do the last update with no problem first day it came out.  This time it will not work.  I have no SD card in it, I did not put it in a new folder or anything, it shows that it transfered with no problems but when it goes to sleep, nothing happens.  I have turned it off as the previous poster said to do but still nothing. :smileysad: I don't get it.  I guess, unless someone else has another idea, I'll have to wait for the wifi version to download.  Hopefully it will! :smileyfrustrated:

                                I was having the same problem.  Went through the process twice, waiting each time for about an hour.  Came to this page out of frustration.  Decided to give it one more try.  On the third try, instead of dragging and dropping the file to the nook directory, I highlighted the update file on my computer, hit my left mouse to bring up options and then selected "send to" then selected the nook directory (F) for me.  Properly ejected and immediately after my nook went to hibernation the installation started!  Turns out, I'd been accidentally dropping the download into folders rather than the main directory.  Hope this helps.

                                  I had the problem to, till I follow this instructions: If you have problems make sure the file name doesn't have a -2 or -1 added to it by your browser. It should be singed_bravo_update.dat!

                                   

                                  I rename the file to nookupdate.dat and then eject the nook from your computer, when it goes to sleep it will install it.
