Status of Nook during charging process

I attended a Nook Color seminar at the local B&N last week and was told that the Nook should not be turned off unless you were not going to use it for more than 1 1/2 weeks.  Another item was that charging should always be done with the NC in sleep mode.  I am very big on battery management and this does not sound correct to me.  Any help would be appreciated.

I don't have a NOOKColor, but that is the recommendation for the nook, to let it sleep rather than shut it down.  I guess the e-ink (nook) display does not use very much battery power when it's sleeping.  And the nook, too, needs to be on while charging.  I've been following those recommendations for my nook since February, with no problems.

Did they say why it shouldn't be switched off?

That information is basically correct.      You get the best charge rate in sleep mode, but you can charge it while you use it...thus the use of the word "should" rather than "must"

As to shutting it all the way down, that also is correct and good practice with any elecronic device.    Sleep mode uses very little energy, but it does use some.   OFF is off, uses zero energy.    It is not good to run a battery all the way down, thus if you're not going to use the NC for a while....OFF is the best way to store it.

If you are really putting the NC away for a long period, the usual advice with Lithium batteries, like the NC has, is to have a medium level charge on the batteries; not near full, not near empty. This is best for the life of the batteries. You probably wouldn't worry about that, however, unless you are putting it away for a month or more, and who would?:smileyvery-happy:
