    Petition for gmail calendar support

Not sure how many people, but it has to be more than me, that would like to see a legimate calendar app that supports gmail syncing on the Nook App Store. The fact that the NT didn't come with one is a bit comical but whatever.

Not sure if this thread will go anywhere but please post in reply if you would also like to see one and lets cross our fingers that B&N can come through with some support.

I'd like to have a gmail calendar app and also a gmail email app and news reader app just like my Android telephone.

The Google Calendar.apk was part of NT 1.4.0 (but no way to reach it) but was removed in the 1.4.1 update.

Agreed, many of us have phones and PC's so supporting the products that we use on multiple machines/platforms even if that includes competitors sometimes is necessary.

I ABSOLUTELY would love an app that syncs with gmail.  I hate using more than one calendar.  I am a busy mom and I can't keep life straight in multiple calendars!  PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE give us an app!!!

                    • Re: Petition for gmail calendar support

I just had a nook tablet shipped to me, but believe now that I will be returning it, since the new update disables sideloading of apps that I already have, and there is no Google sync for calendar. This is amazing to me, since those features are a part of Android. If I'm to be limited to the BN store, with no other option, I might as well go with the Fire! I would like to support BN, and believe the nook is a better piece of hardware, but what good is that if all you can do is read and play silly games? Apps I have purchased for my DroidX should be loadable on other Android devices, and the basic features of Android should not be disabled. I'm willing to bet I'm not the only one feeling slighted....

I agree with kmoffat,  All of the folks that received Nook Tablets like myself for Christmas will have a HUGE dissappointment regarding the google calendar AND having to pay for every little app especially the ones that should be frre (weather and FB).  I know you can bookmark these spots through the web, but that's not the point.  This is run by Android, WHY CAN'T WE USE THE ANDROID APPS, especially the apps that we can sync (google calendar).  I think B & N will find that many people will return the tablets and get the Kindle Fire which many of my friends received and are NOT complaining about it at all.  WAKE UP BARNES AND NOBLE OR YOUR FUTURE NEW PHASES OF THESE PRODUCTS WON'T GO FLYING OFF THE SHELVES.  if I keep the Nook Tablet I will not be purchasing a single book or app from B & N. I for one will tell all of my friends the complaints I have with the Nook Tablet.

I also would REALLY like to have an app that syncs with my google calandar. I have more than one chronic illness and it is IMPERITIVE that I be able to accurately keep track of all of my doctors appointments. This is a HUGE letdown. I never even would have considered that this wasn't available and was quite surprised when i bought the Nook. Totally considering returning it and just getting a full android tablet now....

Count me in. My mission for today is to find a good calendar/organizer with an alarm function. Working with Google products would be a bonus.

I would like add my interest in this as well. I recceived a Nook Tablet for Christmas and was shocked to find that it did not have the ability to sync a Google calendar. I am an Android smartphone user and because of this, Google calendar is what I use everyday. I would like to be able to use my Nook for tracking meetings, appointments etc. but re-entering everything into a new calendar app is just not reasonable. These days, with technology at the level it exists, this should be a simple addition to the available apps, or software (if necessary) that the Nook provides.

Yes please.  Come on B&N, do us all a sold and set us up with the gcalendar app.

I would move this to the suggestions and idea forum.

I bought the N2A card a couple of weeks ago and love it.  I now have a real android tablet with gmail calendar, a fully functioning email program (K9), I can download library books directly to the nook and I have access to all the free google and amazon apps.  If you look at the Nook Tablet Issue Reporting forum, you can see that no one at B&N has been looking at any of our issues in at least a month.  I can still easily reboot to the nook os but have had no reason to do so.  Android is so much better.

I am adding my name to this petition.  I use Google calendar and can access it from my phone---why not my Nook?  I need access.

I agree, add my name to the list.  Fliq is not working well for me.

                                      • Re: Petition for gmail calendar support

I would love some google apps instead of the crappy apps from BN...that you have to pay for.  Right now I go to the web on the Tablet and access the calendar website...but an app would be great.  It's insulting that BN has taken the stance that they are restricting apps "for our own good".  Give me access to the Apps Market!  You already got my money when I bought the tablet.  Ridiculous.

I'd like to second all the comments here.  I received the Tablet as a Christmas gift and really like it but am so disappointed to learn how difficult it is to use my gmail account.  My life is on gmail.  As a family we use it to organize the calendars of 5 people so for me to use a different app for my own personal use does no good to the rest of the family.  I don't like having to use the browser to check email and find the email app kind of useless for anything other than just reading my mail.  I can't archive, or organize my folders in it.  PLEASE...give us google apps!

Yes, please! I'd love to be able to sync my google EVERYTHING with my tablet, but I'm absolutely desperate for the calendar.

I think a Better petition would be for B&N to stop calling it a tablet.

B&N cannot legally add the Google Calendar app, as it is only available to tablets with the "Google Experience" version of Android -- in other words, not a scaled down version.

That said, there is an app in the Amazon Appstore called CalenGoo that is a perfect alternative.  Luckily I have it sideloaded because have not been hit with 1.41 update yet.

Perhaps B&N could get in touch w/the developer to see if they could bring it to the Nook App Store.

HAH!  That would require B&N being willing to make things easier for end-users, which includes developers.  As long as they insist on kneecapping the system, developers won't be able to work with it, and therefore there won't be anything other than the cr*p the app store sems to be filling up with.

Believe it or not, I use the Nook Tablet for most everything I need, from entertainment purposes to using it as a study aid for school. I have almost everything on it that I would ever need except for -- well a google syncable calendar app. As a college student who's studying pre-med, my schedule could be a bit hectic. I would like to see an app that's able to be syncable with google calendars. Granted, I do have an iPhone, but I'm restricted to the size. I like seeing everything layed out on a bigger screen for easier viewing. My schedule is basically set in stone with google calendars and I would not like to transcribe everything on a different calendar app. It took me long enough to set up the schedule I have on google calendar as it is! So please B&N, find an app that is able to sync with google calendars. This way I could also call my Nook Tablet a day planner as well!   Sincerely, Ken E.

Sorry to whoever wrote it, but the thing makes me want to throw my nook across the room everytime I use it. And sadly theres no rating system for stock apps.

I would love a gmail calendar app.  B&N should spend their time on allowing the apps people want and not on preventing rooting, etc.  Do they really believe the average person would go to all that trouble to root their Nook if they could get the apps they want from B&N?
