    ranking books by storage needed

    Hypatia1

Does anyone know a way to list ebooks in the B&N library by the size of the storage they are taking up? I am getting complaints from my old nook glow (the one from a few years back)  that it has run out of space for my books (though I am not getting complaints on my new glow that also has my library on it). I know that the estimate on the number of books stored depends on the size of books downloaded and I can identify a few likely candidates to archive and free up space - but I am wondering if there is an easy way to identify any particular space hogs out of the few hundred books I have.. any ideas (and yes - I know I can archive... I just like to have as many of my ebooks with me as possible since I never know when the urge to read a aparticular book will strike...)

Do you have your books backed up in Nook for PC or the old Nook Study? Once you've downloaded all your books, you should be able to sort them by size (largest to smallest.)

Cant think of anyway to do it on the device.

I'm not aware of any way to do it on the device, or even in the online library without some work.

Like NookGardener said, if you have them backed up on your computer, you should be able to sort by file size. In Calibre it lists file size quite prominently and is easy to see which eBooks have quite a bit of added content. There have been a couple that were ~4MB that I ran through Sigil and stripped out the 'buy these other eBooks too' links at the end and they then showed up around 1MB or less.

Thank you for these suggestions - I have just switched to windows 8.1 though and am not having any success finding the books I have downloaded to the nook app . I have now found them in Users\xx\AppData\Local\Packages\Barnes.... but just as numbers - if I click on them 8.1 doesnt seem to recognise I need the nook app... Do I have to have calibre?

It sounds like you have installed the Nook app through the windows store (think that is your only easy option.)  Go ahead and download all your books through the app.  Then switch over to desktop mode to view the files you downloaded.  You should be able to change your "view" properties so that you can see the file size.

Think the files are being downloaded using the books isbn number (rather than the book title. It does the same thing if you download the file through your account via the browser.) What happens when you right click an individual file? Can you see the file properties and does it include the Book Title?  (Dont have a win 8 pc handy at the moment, and cant remember....) See if that works.  And check the Nook App (there might be a built in, sort by file size, but I doubt it... that's too practical.)

If that fails, you might have to use calibre.
