    Looks like it happened

    bobstro

B&N NOOK Central seems to be all that's left standing. I can't say that I see any difference here. The Community groups are still there, but you can't reply or post. The book groups look to have been euthanized hidden completely.

Image pasting (Keri's trick) still works:

And linking to an image still seems to require image approval:

The wasteland that was your home

(Of course, nobody can see that until it's approved.)

I still have my kudos, and Keri seems to have moved out of reach on the all-time kudo list. Spec is still up at 24K+, so apparently dumping the posts didn't take away kudos. At least not yet. I've inexplicably moved up to position 8 for some reason, even though I'm not posting much lately.

Looks like they're changing things, if not rolling out new stuff while in use. Always fun!

The archives are fairly well hidden but here is a link:

Archives are VERY hidden! Thanks for link. Another way to get to them is to go to your profile, find a recent post to any board that's been hidden. Select it and go in through the back. At least they didn't dump the Nook Book Discussion board (though trying to figure out B&N's reasoning for putting it at the bottom. Probably because too many posts talk about free books.:smileyhappy: ) . I'm not seeing the Community Boards at all anymore though the new main screen. Wonder why bobstro can...

The one thing I'd really like to see is a direct link to the new blog site.  I have it bookmarked, but I still haven't actually managed to find a link to it anywhere.  Wouldn't it make sense to put it somewhere prominent so people would actually be inclined to find it?

Thanks very much for posting the archive link.  I think it actually makes a lot of sense to have the moribund fora all in one place and sorted from oldest to newest - they may have all been arranged that way before the cull, but I don't remember it being that way.  I'd thought there was an attempt at preserving an old hierarchical organization.  Oops, there still is some.  There are a few old fora that were gifted to loyal posters, in essence - and while those are still viewable you'd really have to know about them to get to them.  It's going to annoy the folks who frequented those discussions that they're so hard to find but hey, disk is cheap and BN realized that deleting 'em outright would've been unsporting.

He probably has to floated to the top.  I have that too. If I unfloat it, it disappears.

BTW you won Last Poster in Community Room. Congratulations! *throws confetti*

Huh.  I can only see the second image, not the first.

Not sure what's going on with the kudos - I seem to have lost a few, less than 20.  Not sure where the would have gone if Alex kept all the threads in the archives.  I was expecting much more decimation.

                          I lost exactly 143 Kudos.

This happened once before when Alex rearraigned the forums, and then about a month later, I got them all back.  It might be that the total gets improperly adjusted when messages are moved, and then when the database (or index, or whatever) is periodically rebuilt, they come back.

Alex, I didn't mean it.  Whatever I've said about you, it was all in fun.  Really.

I am surprised anyone knows they lost or gained a small amount of Kudos.  Am I  missing something? Don't get me wrong I notice who has a lot on a given day, my default setting,  but I never took it that seriously.  Since longevity, number of posts, expertise, all matter it really is just a fun thing. Of course if I was more knowledgeable technically and received more kudos I might feel differently. :smileywink: I am always skeptical of anything that may reflect popularity more than contribution.

I do wish more attention was paid to the quality of the response, including tact, irregardless of whether you agree with it or not.  I do make it a point to kudo well presented positions I don't agree with on occasion I but I am not very consistent.

I don't generally pay attention either, but as there was a chance that the entire history of the Community Room was going to disappear, I took note of how many I had. I think most of my kudos came from that board, and was curious to see just how many vanished.

The kudos don't ultimately mean anything because there aren't any rules to how someone gets them. It's completely on user discretion, and there's a history of folks "gaming the system" to get kudos (because they matter SO MUCH, come on). So I tend to think of them as irrelevant, but I still give them out, because, hey, it's part of the forum and I'd be a crappy person to have folks giving them to me but not giving any in return.

I just wanted enough to hit bibliophile status, which required other things as well, and ultimately means nothing in the long run.

We don't unlock special privs, or abilities at any given point other than the ability to give more kudos.  Which really just feeds in to the system since the higher you rise the faster you can raise someone else.

I took note of my kudos because boards were going away, though I think most of my kudos come from the Nook related boards anyway.

I wondered whether or not Kudo trimming was the result of hiding the Community forum, but I found a message of yours there, and gave it Kudos.  I saw your Kudo count go up as a result, so the loss of Kudos wasn't the result of hiding the Community forum.

What I suspect happened, is that all the kitchen threads (where I had a number of Kudos) were purged from the system.

IMO, neither the HD nor HD+ is a large enough device to benefit from true stereo sound on the device itself, so I don't think the placement of the speakers is much of an issue.  The only time having stereo would be nice is when hooking it to alternative speakers, whether headphones/buds or through a TV or sound system.
