Nook Color Charger Issue. Online Chat dialogue

11:05:35 AM : Customerbianca: Initial Question/Comment: Hello- I don't have my serial # with me (bc my nook battery is dead) but my 1 year warranty is up. My original charger stopped charging so BN sent me another. That one completely fell apart and I've had it less than a year. Can you please send me another one? I have read numerous reviews on the charger and many customers have had the same issue. Is there anything you can do? A replacement is way too expensive.

so, your warranty is up, and you expect warranty service?

            • Re: Nook Color Charger Issue. Online Chat dialogue

ummm No. I guess you didn't read the entire transcript or you're cluelesss. I expect them to send me a product that works. The replacement charger was worse than the original but they offer no recourse. If you take the time to view other message boards, I am one of many that has had defective product.

This can't be right.  Are they saying that if you go into a BN retail store and purchase a Nook Color charger, that it has no warranty at all?

Although with the poor design and quality control of the things, I can't say that I blame them.

                      Wow.  Abusive and shouting.

Did you bother to read the myriad of replies reminding you that you can in fact use a normal micro-USB charger, like your phone or the regular NOOK uses?  Those that can be bought at Five Below for $2?   Those that most people have scores of at home?

Yes, the charging takes significantly longer.  But it works.

Somehow, I suspect you'd rather rant and rave than solve your problem.  You've certainly given us evidence to support that, anyway.

If you use a higher-capacity wall adapter like those sold for most tablets, usually about 2.1A output, with a normal microUSB cable, it'll charge at roughly 10% per hour. If you leave it on the charger overnight, you should be set the next morning. Yes, it's not as fast as the stock cable (the cable is the "magic" bit), but still certainly usable.

Fry's Electronics still advertises a NOOK Color/Tablet charging kit online for $19.99. Someone reported ordering one and receiving it with the last month. If all else fails, this might be worth a shot.

Also, if you look for the cable on the B&N web site, it may be unavailable in your immediate zip code, but scroll down and make sure it's not available at other stores nearby. My closest store is out of stock, but two others nearby appear to have it available.

LisaleeNV's book collection can still be accessed. There's certainly no reason to be abusive to people who are being helpful. Dial back the drama a bit, realize that you're not stuck, and take your problems out on B&N, not users here trying to be helpful.

Funny thing, I'm still using my original NookColor cable with absolutely no problems.   So maybe it's a design flaw, maybe you just have to be careful with it.  I haven't figured out how some people can go through cable after cable and others can still be using the original cable without any problems.

Standard electronic warranty...one year from the purchase date. Replacement parts/new units don't reset the clock. Posting the chat because your angry is understandable but your past the warranty. Want more, try an extended warranty from the seller or third party.

I get why she's angry. If I understand it correctly, she has already had her charger replaced at least once before her warranty expired. The replacement cord recharged her Nook, but probably not very well. The replacement cord failed after her warranty expired. The only way to charge her Nook at this point is to purchase a new charger-either a ridiculously high priced one through B&N which will likely be as poor as the one that came with the Nook or one that can slowly charge through her computer. This is unacceptable considering what most of us paid for our NC (especially if purchased before Jan. 2012). It is well known that the chargers suck and B&N refuses to do anything about it!

Update:  Don't get me wrong. I love my Nook. I bring it every where and I've never had an issue with the device. The charger itself is a headache but I went ahead and bought another. I found it at Walmart and took the advice of another poster by buying an extended warranty.  I've been keeping it in its original box just because I'm nervous that it'll  break. Fingers crossed.

My exact issue. My husband and I both got a Nook for Christmas, two years ago. Since then we have had replacement Nooks and probably 8 chargers. Now they say the Nooks are out of warranty. The warranty should be void since it was a bad design. They admit it was a bad design and claim it is fixed. IT ISN'T FIXED. We have had two chargers since they claim it was "fixed" and the chargers are identical in design. There is no visible difference, anyway.  Now, you can't buy the charger online and our store does not stock them. I don't want any idiots on here saying they DO stock them because our store hasn't had them in a year. I have 425 damn books I can't access now. If I switch to Kindle those books are gone forever. Screw Barnes and Noble. They don't care about their customers.
