    Preloaded apps /Storage space

    Doreenpv

We should be granted the power to archive preloaded apps such as chess and sudoku, neither of which I play, when are storage space becomes full. This  limited space appears to be precious and BN forced these apps onto my device. Just not nice.

Yes, I'm a bit bummed about this too--I just hit my app limit and I feel like I hardly have anything on there--I am going to try and see if I can run apps off my sd card, really a bummer.

You can go to any B&N store and let them format your NC with the new partitioning model.

This will give you a hidden partition of 5GB for B&N content (including apps) instead of a hidden partition of 900MB for apps.

Unfortunately, that's not possible on the NC.  Even though the version of Android they're using (2.2) does support it.  Apps can only be loaded into the hidden system area.

While I agree with you in principle (it's your space, and you should be allowed to use it as you see fit), in practice it's really not that big a deal.  I discussed some of these issues here:

                http://bookclubs.barnesandnoble.com/t5/NOOK-Apps-Discussion/CAN-YOU-ARCHIVE-APPS-THAT-CAME-WITH-THE-NOOK-LIKE-CHESS/m-p/1125560#M933

but what it comes down to is there are only about 8 or 9 preloaded Apps you can't archive, and they use an average of about 1 MB each.  Even 9 MB out of 900 MB (original NCs) is not much of an impact.  One Angry Birds game will eat that up, two or three times over (i.e. 20-30 MB).

When it comes to B&N store employees, I'm blaming a whole lot on training, or lack thereof.

Don't need to look much further than this to know... something is very, very wrong.

It is wonderful that the OP was resourceful enough to contact Sam, yet I think it is terribly sad that it came to that - they should have direct access to the B&N Tech Teams.

I'm lucky, our store seems to really know what they are doing, and I can't help but think they learned it on their own.

I so agree!  Especially now that I'm purchasing apps that I actually use, why can't I archive or delete the ones I haven't used in the 8 months I've had my Nook Color???  The screen with apps on it is so cluttered!  PLEASE B&N let us get rid of those nasty preloaded apps!!!  Please?

Agreed!  I actually like some of the preloaded apps, but rarely use any of them. Being unable to archive the preloaded apps which one rarely or ever uses makes them "bloatware" rather than nice-to-have freebies.

Any chance that BN is reconsidering making preloaded appa archivable?  Out of the 9 preloaded apps, I only want two there. Also, I saw that someone theorized that magazines could be using the same space. Is this possible?
