With excitement I tried your prescription and sadly it did not work.  I have a Netgear WNR2000.  I'm using WPA-PSK + WPA2-PSK security setting and can't get the Nook to register. Any other suggestions?????

Spent hours online with BN "tech un-support" yesterday due to continued WiFi issues only to have two different employees shrug off this issue as being "the first time they ever heard about this issue." I went through various tortures, including de-registering and re-registering and then doing a factory reboot. None of that worked, and they both eventually did the usual advisement of "Take it to your local BN store." Great, more useless help, only this would be in person where I might be arrested for finally blowing my top. So, I rebooted my router and Voila! The WiFi works, most of the time at least. However the new disturbing, annoying and horrible issue is having my browser close automatically, sending me back to my last window! Seems there's data on here with this happening before 1.4.1, but I've yet to find anything since. Figure the store is going to tell me the same thing everyone is getting -- "We will send you a refurbished one." How about a NEW Nook Color with 1.4.2?? Aaarrrgghhhh, no one with Barnes and Noble seem to be listening!

Your resolution was dead on.  Thanks for the write up.  It worked perfectly for me.  I too had been wasting numerous hours trying to set up wireless for the nook color.  One other thing helped me with the process.  Netgear has a Smart Wizard and I used that to find my necessary information, i..e. IP address, p/w etc. Thanks again for the SOLUTION.

So, I followed your instructions (thanks for posting btw):

                1. Log onto your router using the IP address assigned

                2. Click on the Wireless Settings link under "Setup"

                3. Click on the drop-down menu for "mode" and change the Mode to 54Mps

                4. Click "Apply". If you skip this step the change won't be made

and I got to step 3 and my steps seems to be different?

I have my mode set to Auto 108Mbps with no option to set it to 54Mps.

                My only options are:

                1) b only

                2) g only

                3) b and g

                WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?!?! lol

I called barnes and noble and my internet customer support and NO ONE could help me. They basically said what you said 'it might be a bad nook' and I have the option to return it.

If anyone knows what options I should choose or where I should go from here? I have been working on this for three days now and I have not been able to get passed the registration mode. HELP! :smileyhappy:

                  g mode is 54Mps.

So you can either choose  "g only" or "b and g". Both should work fine.

You need to know the your routers ip address. Google your router model and find out what the default ip address is. Hopefully when your router was installed the default ip address hasn't been changed. Enter the ip address in your web browser and the login page for the router should popup. Enter the default id and password and you should then be able to access all of the settings. If the default ip address or default log in has been changed you will have to reset your router. You will then need to set your router back up with the proper internet settings as it will no longer have access to the internet.

If you are not broadcasting your SSID enable broadcasting.  That is working for me with the Actiontec router.

im so confused.  I never wanted one, buy my hubby bought me one.  This is frustrating.  It's easier to buy a book and open it up and start reading.

<sigh>  It asks me for a network password.   Don't know it, don't even think i have one.  So, I typed something in.  It accepted it, authenticates it then immediately disables it.

                            I give up

Your wireless home router does have a password (a very good thing to keep neighbors or others nearby from using your internet connection). You will need to enter this password for your nook to access wifi. Who installed your router: your husband, or internet provider, or ?? With luck, this person knows the password they created.

In the meantime, you can visit a Starbucks, library, McDonald's, etc. that offer free password-free wifi and you can use your nook there.

My Nook Color (new today) wouldn't connect either. Turns out I was giving it the wrong password to send to the router (Linksys WRT54G). When I gave it the correct password, it connected fine.
