I've got a real formatting problem I just can't solve! Can anyone help?

I'm having real problems formatting my title Big Brother for Nook. I want the title page, publication page and the page where I list my previous publications centred, but it just won't work. In the original Word file, epub and the manuscript editor they are centred, but when I check in the preview everything is left aligned. Knowing the preview is a bit unreliable downloaded the book and those three pages were still left aligned; so I took the book off sale and tried again. I had successfully uploaded an epub version of my book Epiworld where those pages are correctly centred, and even copied the .xhtml codes from there to Big Brother:still no joy! Absolutely nothing I do works!

I have avoided using the Nook editor because I know it's a pile of pap.

I've spent hours on this and it's doing my head in!

I can assume, by your comments, that you do not own a Nook device? Have you tried to see what your book looks like on the Nook for PC app?

You could always gamble and publish. Maybe the issue is simply with the previewer inside NP and not with your file at all.

Have you tried to send your file to a friend with an ereader? Maybe, if they can sideload it, they'll be able to tell you how it looks. Or, if you want to send me your epub file, I can sideload it onto my Nook and then tell you if it is okay or not.

          Hope this helps

Hi, Mrs Smith; yeah. you are right: I don't have a Nook ereader, but I have the Android app on my phone. I did publish the book and the text was still left aligned, so I took it off sale and tried working on it again. I think the preview is right

Done everything I can think of to get this to work and it won't. I'll try the Nook for PC app as well, though. I know the basics of html but I don't know enough about xhtml to figure out if the codes are incorrect, though everything says it's centred.

              It really is annoying!

What I did was I took the codes from those three pages, put them into Notepad, saved them as html files and viewed them in a browser: they are correctly centred. I also viewed them in Firefox's epub reader: correctly centred.

So there can't be anything wrong with the codes. It must have something to do with what happens when the manuscript is uploaded to Nook: it must corrupt the codes somehow.

I've emailed them because there's nothing else I can do. I note I can't delete the project and begin from scratch because the title has been published already. Replacing the manuscript over and over again can't be doing the file much good, either!

Two words to describe the whole process: pss poor!

I can, if you would like, look at your epub file. See if there is any erroneous code mucking things up and maybe fix it for you.

Thanks, Mrs S, but it's only those three pages causing me concern. If you could look at the coding for those it might be enough. I bet it's something really simple you can see and I can't!

I didn't create the codes as I don't have that skill. They were created automatically after the conversion from Word 2007 to epub and I can see them in Sigil. They all look different to the untrained eye.
