Book automatically goes to the Cloud

    sandisadie

Yesterday I bought 4 ebooks from the B&N website.  As is my custom I opened each one on my Nook HD to make sure they were actually available to read.  Three of them were just sitting there waiting to be opened but one had the "cloud" sign on it.  After a couple of tries I was able to open it and the "cloud" disappeared.  I didn't try to open them for several hours after the purchase.  Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen.

I have had this happen on pre orders, first day release books or books bought on my pc or other non BN device.

I have this issue on my HD+ at times.  I have found persistence usually works although it is frustrating.

I press on the book to download, the download starts, briefly finishes and then the cloud symbol reappears and I have restart the download.  If the book is a pre-order that is now ready this process happens more frequently.  If after about 10 trys it won't stay downloaded I usually try archiving and unarchiving the book to get it to stay.. either using my old NookColor and/or the Nook for PC app.  Once I have opened the book using one of these options the HD+ will download the book and it will stick.

I have had the same issue with books going to the nook cloud automatically. I spoke with Barnes and Noble support through live chat about the issue and they said techs were working on the problem. I agree that this issue does not look like it will be solved soon based on the live chat. This issue is concerns me greatly as I visit places that do not have wi-fi and I cannot load books that have dissapeared from my nook to the nook cloud. I have begun looking for and buying epub books that are from other sources instead of Barnes and Noble and downloading them to my nook. These books do not disappear to the nook cloud. Until the problem is resolved, I can no longer recommend the Nook HD+.

Have you tried downloading them using the Nook for PC app and then sideloading them to the HD+?

Ideally, B&N should take a cue from the Kindle Store to provide an option allowing users to direct where a purchased book should be sent. I understand why some would want purchased digital content to download automatically to their device(s). However, in contrast, I'm sure some others share my preference to direct purchased digital content to the cloud, where it won't take up precious on-device storage space, and to download that content when and where I choose.
