The Naxos AudioBooks team would like to wish you the very best of luck for your marathon attempt by offering you a free audiobook gift: Tom McNab’s Flanagan’s Run. Audiobooks make the very best of training companions. They offer diversion, inspiration and motivation and distract you when the going gets tough!
During the Depression of the 1930s. the ebullient American entrepreneur Charles Flanagan assembles 2,000 runners from all corners of the earth, to run from Los Angeles to New York for prize-money of $150,000. Flanagan’s Trans-America runners face 3,000 miles, across the Mojave desert and the frozen Rockies, running a daily average of 50 miles for three months. The American sports establishment, however, is desperate to crush what it sees as a professional challenge to the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics. Every day is therefore a struggle for survival, for Flanagan himself as well as the runners. Flanagan’s Run is an epic tale, and a testimony to the strength of the human spirit.

How odd. I get nothing from Naxos. I followed those instructions with both Chrome and IE. The file appears to start saving, but then gives an error that the file is unavailable. Oh well.

L. Frank Baum was born on May 15, 1856. In celebration of his birthday, we are giving away a FREE full audiobook download of his timeless classic, THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ, read by Brooke Shields (with an introduction by Paul Rudd). But look out, this special giveaway is good for ONE DAY ONLY before it…melts away!
More than a century after this magical tale was first released in 1900, THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ by L. Frank Baum is sure to entrance a new generation of listeners with its enchanting fantasy setting and entertaining characters.
AudioFile praises, “Shields portrays Dorothy in sweet, girlish tones; gives Scarecrow a countrified, aw-shucks voice; reads the Tin Woodman in cultured tones; and uses low, occasionally wistful whines and roars for the Cowardly Lion. Shields’ rendition of the Wicked Witch’s evil machinations as she attempts to starve the lion and force Dorothy to yield her silver shoes is most frightening, and she screeches ‘Ziz-zi, zuz-zy, zik!’ in a scary falsetto, replete with a cackle or two.”
I’m sure most of you have seen the movie at least once (I watch it almost every year) but the book has about forty major differences from the film adaptation.FUN FACT: In the book, Dorothy inherits the Wicked Witch of the East’s real silver shoes. Since Oz is a magical place, the silver shoes can alter their size to perfectly fit their current owner. In the 1939 MGM version of The Wizard of Oz , the movie studio changed the silver shoes to the famous ruby red slippers (worn by screen-legend Judy Garland!) because they wanted to show off how well the slippers’ ruby color popped on Technicolor film.
Take a listen as a family and count how many differences you can hear. We hope you enjoy your journey down the yellow brick road!
This FREE audiobook download is available for ONE DAY ONLY.
Offer ends May 15, 2015 at 11:59 PM ET.
