    Nook and windows 10 problems

    cgsmom

I just updated my computer to windows 10.  The Nook app does not work very well.  My books and magazines are there but when I open them, the pages are partially off the screen.  Is this a common thing, or is it just my computer?

Sorry to read Windows 10 isn't playing well with NOOK for PC on your computer; I've been holding off on installing Windows 10, fearful that it might disrupt the smooth workings of my apps and programs. We've begun discussing people's experiences with Windows 10 at Does Windows 10 play well with NOOK for PC or NOOKStudy? .

I think cgsmom is talking about the Nook Windows app from the Microsoft store. I went ahead and installed it but I have yet to get a book to download from it. I don't know if maybe there's a conflict with it because I also have the Nookstudy program and I do have my books already downloaded from that. Need to do some experimenting.

Well, after playing around with both apps, I think I'll just stick with Nookstudy for now. I tried to download an old archived book in the Nook Windows app and it still doesn't work. It actually disappeared from my library. I typed in a search and found it that way, but it still won't download. Now my library in Nook Windows app shows 1 less book than in my Nookstudy program. Weird. Like I said in Froide's survey, as long as Nookstudy still works properly, I'll use that.

I am talking about the Nook for Windows app.  I do not have Nook for PC on this computer.  I would like to read magazines on my computer and Nook for PC doesn't do that well.  I like the Nook app from the Windows store and it worked great in Windows 8.  However, it does not work very well in Windows 10 at all.

I have the exact problem: After installing Windows 10, the nook app doesn't work well. Part of the text is off the screen , making any book or magazine unreadable . Is there any solution to this? I like the nook app but it is not usable with Windows 10. I had to revert to version 8.1 for the time being in my tablet.

Yet another reason why I'm delaying my "upgrade" to Windows 10 a long as I can.

cgsmom If you recently upgraded your Windows Tablet, PC, or Laptop to Windows 10, some functionality is not supported at this time. Our technology team is currently working on updating the NOOK for Windowsapplication and we hope to have full Windows 10 compatibility in the near future.

We offer several alternative NOOK Reading Apps and invite you to explore them by clicking here.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and thank you for your continued support of NOOK.

                    - Alex

                      Hello,

I may have found a workaround for this issue! it worked in my tablet and in my computer:

Just for information, these are the resolutions of my devices:

                      Acer Aspire V7 laptop : 1920x1080

                      Hipstreet W8 Pro tablet: 1920x800

And the problem seems to be associated with the Windows 10 scaling feature.

                      Try this:

                      A. Laptop or computer

                      1. Go to All Settings > System > Display

                      2. Change the scale to 100% in the "Change size of text, apps..." option

(if it is already at 100%, then use the Tablets instructions)

                      3. Choose Apply, and you will be asked to sign out, so do it.

                      4. Sign in and open the Nook app. Everything should be working normally

                      B. Tablets

                      1. Go to All Settings > System > Display

                      2. Change the scale to 125% (yes it is not an error) in the "Change size of text, apps..." option

                      3. Choose Apply, and you will be asked to sign out, so do it.

                      4. Sign in and go again to All Settings > System > Display

                      5. Change the scale back to 100% in the "Change size of text, apps..." option

                      6. Choose Apply, and you will be asked to sign out, so do it.

                      7. Sign in again and open the Nook app. Everything should be working normally!!!

So, even if my tablet said that it was using 100% scale, it really was not! doing the above procedure solved the problem for both my devices.

I have finally back my ideal Nook tablet: A Windows 10 Nook tablet!!

                      Hope this help.

                      Cheers,

Thanks for posting this.  I am glad it worked for you.  However, I followed your instructions and still have the same problem.  I am so disappointed with Barnes & Noble.  I guess I will cancel all my magazine subscriptions and move to Zinio.  At least it works in Windows.  I will be using Kindle for my ebooks from here forward.  This is very sad.  Windows 10 has been out for 3 months and they can't fix this one major problem.  The Nook app for Windows 8 was by far the best reading app for Windows.  I cannot express how angry I am.

Thank you! I was so frustrated because I couldn't read any of my books or magazines because the pages were cut off in the app.  Your solution worked for me.  Can't believe it was something so simple.

Does BN give a damn about Windows users?

Please...don't point to half-@$$ fixes that don't work well,

when do we get a Real Windows App?

The so called "Correct Answer" to cgsmom is actually garbage.

Your "technology team" is doing a poor job.  W10 has been available to developers for a year.  To have one of your primary electronic interfaces to the reading world up on skids for several months after the initial rollout of W10 is ridiculous.  Let's be very clear about this - many of us didn't WANT to go to W10 - it was necessary because 8 and 8.1 were so problematic.  My tablet is now 70% useless now because of your failure to do the basics right: be aware and be responsive.  You have failed your client base badly and there is no nice way to dress it up.

The suggestion of "alternative" apps is insulting.  Gee, I bought a 10 inch tablet that I can't use with Nook, so, let's use a reading app on my 4 inch telephone.  Do you really think that this is an intelligent idea, Alex?

The apology from Alex is a waste of bytes and NO, we will not continue to support Nook.  We will now turn up the heat on Leonard Riggio, Ronald D. Boire, and Jaime Carey - the senior management team at B&N.  I am instructing my broker to buy 1 share of B&N stock so I can then pursue this madness via investor relations.  Go ahead and continue do a bad job (nothing) with the Nook Windows app.  See what happens next.
