      Minor enhancements, indeed.

..so on updating to 2.05 I lost all my apps, preloaded and purchased alike....

Factory Reset brought my apps back, now just need to get it to see my sd card :smileyfrustrated:

Same problem here. I am posting from my PC because there is no browser on my Nook HD+ (or no link to it). The update happened automatically sometime this afternoon or evening and there was a notification for it. When I tapped on the notification message for more info, it asked what browser to use, Dolphin, KidsBrowser, or Maxthon. I had previously installed Dolphin and Maxthon. The standard builtin browser was not an option.

So the factory reset is the fix? I tried the Chat support option, but that is unavailable due to excessive wait time. That's a surprise. How does something like this happen?

Also discovered a problem with the recent update to my Nook Simple Touch. Books checked out from the library were unreadable. Had to delete all the Adobe Digital Edition directories and re-download the books.

Please tell me one of the minor enhancements is a fix for shelves? Pretty please? :smileywink: Seriously though, if anyone can post their experience with the new update in detail, that would be great! I think I'm going to wait for the automatic update since I can't actually connect my Nook hd to my powerbook and I think it will be less problematic with apps etc. from what others said on here. Here's hoping their 'minor enhancement' update enhances my spazzy Nook and doesn't make it worse :/ Thanks!

There doesn't appear to be a shelving fix. I just created one shelf and placed 200 books on it., 198 of them were sideloaded content. I rebooted my HD+ and all but the two B&N content books went puff! I will have to see how long the two tnat remained will stay.

What does having a laptop connection have to do with manual updating?

The same WiFi connection used by a pushed update can be used for a manual update. Go to Settings/All Settings/Device Information and tap on the displayed version number to initiatethe check for an update; the device should find an update and provide to download and install it.

Thanks! I didn't realize I could get the Nook update on my Nook hd like this! In the past with my Nook color we always went to the B&N link using my PowerBook (when it wasn't considered irrelevant with the new devices) and downloaded it through the USB cord. I'll do this in a bit.

don't seem to have the ability to manage content for shelves anymore. Guess they assumed we didn't need it if we couldn't keep them anyway.

well I did a test for shelves. After adding one and adding some books to it, I then hooked up to the pc and browsed a bit before unhooking. That used to be enough to cause me to lose my shelves. Not so this time.

Okay..next, let's open Calibre and hook it up again. Calibre saw it and I waited a minute or two before ejecting it in Calibre and unplugging my usb again. Yeah, my shelf and books are still there.

Last test. Hook up again, have Calibre add a few books to my main memory, eject, unplug, check...

                        Shelves still there.

Now we'll see if it's permanent but if so..YEAH!! I'm going to wait though to make sure. I am still planning to use my Calibre server because it's there and I'm lazy....but I do want to be able to see my sideloaded covers so I want to be able to shelve them separate from the main library so I can browse them on my device when I want to.

Interested to know the results for others.

I updated to 2.0.5 and I have noticed an increased performance on my Nook HD+. When scrolling through my shelves, my library, the shop - things are much faster and smoother.  Things just seem to run better. My shelves have stayed intact and I have to say that even before the new update my shelves have stayed intact for the past month.

Also the manage content option is available for me when I press and hold on a shelf.

Since the update, I cannot power on my Nook HD if I completely power it off.  I have to plug it in to get it to turn back on and the battery is at 75%  Fabulous

Disregard my post reference my Nook HD not booting back up after a power off.  I have since discovered that my problem was due to my Class 10 32gb micro sd card. Once I removed it, its starts perfectly everytime. Apparently, the Nook HD only supports up to Class 6, guess I should have read the directions better!!

I'm surprised a Class 10 could cause boot problems...

However, FYI, Class 10 card speed is rated for streaming write access on a freshly formatted card -- eg; a long clip by a video camera. Once a card gets fragmented, or has multiple short files, the Class 10 card is unrated...

Class 2/4/6, OTOH, is based upon fragmented, short, file access -- what you'd find in a data application, not video application. So while a Class 10 may be nearly twice the speed of a Class 6 when reformatted and used for video, it is possible (if unlikely) for the Class 10 be worse than a Class 4 when used with random access data files. I'd expect a SanDisk/Transcend/Lexar Class 10 to be no worse than a Class 6 in data applications -- but the cheaper brands may have been highly optimized for streaming video and have almost no speed when jumping around in memory (they may also not have load leveling to avoid always writing to the same spots in memory).

Check the manual. Did you have your HD format the card? That could be the problem if you didn't. Class 6 should work.

Well I got my Christmas Surprise.  I made the mistake of turning on my internet yesterday so my Nook HD+ could update emails.  I had been reading a book without internet and then I put the Nook HD+ down on a table so I could go check on my Christmas dinner I was preparing and when I went back to to check my Nook it was not on the page of my book. Instead it looked as if it was updating! I didn't even know an update was available yet as I had not checked earlier. When the update completed I had no wallpaper, no internet icons, no email, and worst of all absolutely NO PURCHASED CONTENT was accessible. Since books are stored someplace we can't look at I couldn't find any trace of my 900+ books and although the app section on the settings showed my apps still installed the apps page had no content. Going to the master profile and managing content only let 16 apps reappear.  I was not a happy camper.  Does ANYONE with ACTUAL KNOWLEDGE of the DEVICE ACTUALLY TEST THESE THINGS!!  My company would fire me if I let a software update go out like this!!!  I tried the soft reset and got nothing back. The hated carousel was gone but that was because all the BN content was GONE!

The only content I had was my sideloaded books and stuff on my SD card!

After reading through the postings I reluctantly did the erase/reregister thing after I unmounted my sd card for safety as I had some stuff backed up to it.  The reregister was sucessful and all my content except for Quick Office Pro ( missing in action) was back.  I have to redownload everything!! I lost all apps settings, game progress but at least stuff is back. BN needs to put a warning label on this minor update that you needs to backup your files in the internal memory before letting the update rip. Unfortunately my update happened with no warning at all.  BTW My Carousel returned with my BN content.

I believe 1968, I use a class 10 sd card in my nook hd and the only real problem I've ever had is any shelves I make to organize my books disappear if I hook it up to my pc. Otherwise it's worked pretty well. I turn it on and off all the time with zero issues (I've owned it for about 2 months now). I needed a higher class for all my audio books. This is the first time I even heard that they didn't support higher class sd cards. I think that the shelves disappearing is a common issue for most on here so I'm not sure that that is your problem. I thought I'd comment just in case, like me, you had wanted or needed a high class sd card for a reason and so anyone else that saw this thread would know that a class 10 sd card CAN work just fine in a Nook HD. I hope you're able to resolve your nook issues soon!

Well, I got hit with the 2.05 update last night and, sure enough, my home page no longer has a "Web" or "Email" icon, all my apps appear to be gone, as well as my entire library.

I've gone through this thread and the only applicable entries I see are to edit profiles and restore access to some of the items like the web browser and apps.  However, I've never set up any profiles and I don't see any place to edit them under any of the settings.

Not sure what "erase and deregister" does.  Just re-register and everything magically re-appears?

I've been a staunch fan and supporter of B&N and the nook since the 1st edition, but I'm having my doubts now.  It's been years and they still don't have this software stuff figured out.  Did they not see the reports of these problems?  I work for a software company and if we had issues like this I can guarantee you we would have stopped rolling out the update until they were resolved.  A generic androd tablet is seeming like a better idea all the time....

But that's for future Homer to worry about.  Is there an authoritative resolution to this, or just try everything listed and hope for the best?

                                        Thanks to all.

I was out of the country for a few days when the update was first launched, so I was unaware there was one cominhg. This morning, I was surprised to see my Nook HD+ getting the update over the air.  I was somewhat apprehensive, however, to my surprise, and once the device restarted, everything was there and the device was and still IS working properly.  I guess I am a lucky Nook owner.

Had to do the "erase and re-register" operation.

Never mind the re-set up of the network, re-setup of e-mail, browser bookmarks, etc.  But I really, really, have to go through and re-download all my books one at a time?  There's no download all option?  No way to synch with nook for PC?  Copying the files from the nook for PC folder to the internal nook HD storage just duplicates all the titles (one "real" one waiting for download and the copied one with a generic cover icon).

I have only about 200 titles.  I've seen people on here with 1,000+.  That's a lot of tapping and waiting.

I'll do a Factory Reset and see if I can get back to the begining step. Then I'll get to do all the set-up work all over again!

                                                Thanks B&N, thanks...

P.S. - I'll never buy another B&N reader. I loved my original Nook, but Nook HD+ has been a POS. Next time, it's an Android Tablet. I'll never make this mistake again...
